Rating: Summary: Great mouse, solid design. Review: The one thing that's nice about Microsoft is that they've finally learned to start taking customer suggestions. They were the first to design a pro-style right-hand only mouse, and props to them. The right-hand style means more comfort, less strain, and easier control access. If you're right handed, of course. I can use this mouse for hours on end without any strain or discomfort. The computer I have this mouse hooked up to is a Mac, and Microsoft's Intellipoint software works well. Despite being USB Overdrive with a MS Logo and some options put on top, it's surprisingly versatile and easy to use. The thumb buttons are useful for everything from web navigation to jump/crouch in FPS games. The scroll wheel is a must-have for any long documents. This product gets 5 stars from me for excellent comfort, good, through design, and superb function.
Rating: Summary: Good for Ease of Use and Little Maintenence Review: This mouse proved to be the smoothest mouse I'd ever used. I hate going ball to the ones with the ball. This one works without a mouse pad and does it's job perfectly. It is very well made. I haven't had a problem with it and I've been using it for almost a year, so ... is a little amount for something that works this long. It can work even without a newer computer that has a USB port because it has a clip on aqua-colored thing that allows for PS-2 use. It lights up to tell you it's working and doesn't need a power source for all its capabilities. All the buttons are completely programable so you can access information quicker. It got 4 stars for 2 reasons. It could be more ergonomical. It doesn't fit in your hand quite right. It is hard to pick up and move, for fear of hitting buttons. The other reason, which is sort of invalid, is the cord. It would be nice for it to have a be cordless, but this doesn't matter as much. This is definitely worth buying. There are TWO in my house.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Mouse... when it works Review: I bought this mouse when they were first launched a few years ago. After years of using non-optical mice, it was fantastic having a mouse which I didn't have to clean out every month or so and which tracked extremely well, and although I didn't think I'd use the extra buttons, I've found that because of the excellent software which comes with it, they have actually been quite useful as you can assign them to different task depending on the application currently running. The mouse tracks very well, except if your surface is too polished (which isn't often a problem for me). Also, it's pretty comfortable to use, even though it's rather large, it's pretty lightweight, which says to me it's not built that well, but then structurally I've never had a problem. However the shape will not make left-handed users very happy. My only real complaint is the reliability of these mice. A friend on mine has got through 2 of them so far, seemingly because of dodgy cable connections, and mine seems to occasionally fail for no apparent reason. When it fails, the light comes on and flashes 4 times, then nothing. If I leave it unplugged for a while, sometimes days, it seems to magically start working again. Another colleague has had one for a similar amount of time, but has never had any issues, but then looking at the condition of it, he obviously doesn't use his mouse as much as I do (not even his keyboard has a smooth patch on the space bar, something my keyboards develop in the space of a few months). Overall, I like this mouse, but the unreliability of it makes me want to give it a lower score than it should really deserve. MS have done a nice job with the Mac and Windows software which comes with it and have made a good all-round mouse, but when it stops working and I have to resort to a single button Mac mouse for a few days, it's just not fun. Although that new black leather wireless looks nice, I have a feeling I'll be buying a Logitech next time around.
Rating: Summary: Not the best but a very good product Review: 1- Size is a little big for some users. Before buying, if possible, ask for a try to see if you are comfortable with it. 2- Installation is very easy. It caused problems with some of my friends' compaq notebooks, but its mostly the snaptic touchpads fault, and easily resolved by disabling touchpad or applying a driver update for both the mouse and the touchpad. 3- If you are left handed, I strictly recommend you to think on alternatives. To be sure, you may want to test it. 4- If you are an online gamer, and play games like quake and counter-strike alot, I recommend you to continue with old-fashion mice. Its usually harder to aim with optic mice, and it was harder with this one too. I'm not sure if it was because of the surfaces I used it on, but I tested it with several pads and surfaces, and still I wasn't satisfied with its counter-strike performance. Its harder to aim than a normal mouse, as if it doesn't recognize small hand moves. 5- Its hard to use the side buttons for some people. If so, simply disable them. 6- No ball, no cleaning. All you have to do is to clean the bottom surface once in a month. 7- No performance loss as the mouse gets older. A very good product that I recommend for an average user. If you are a designer or a hardcore gamer, first test one and ask users for their opinions.
Rating: Summary: No balls, but suprisingly good. Review: I have this mouse for over a year, and I was so surprised I'll even write a review about it. While outrageously overpriced, I expected a lot worse from it. In fact, I am surprised... this is the first good optical mouse I've seen, and it works very well. Yes it is big, well test one a bit after you buy it. Yes, it's dark. I like it, but there's a white one too. Regarding the 5 buttons (pressing the wheel counts), they can be configured to several options and I now find them all extremely useful. The wheel, well, here's an aspect that sometimes changes from unit to unit..some have heavier wheels, some are too light... that might annoy some users, it's a matter of luck with the unit you get. Mine is light, but not too light, about perfect. One thing is for sure, match this rat and its pieces of Teflon on the bottom with the right mouse mat and you get an extremely light mouse with impressive accuracy. I've been using in very different ways, a lot of Photoshop'ing, which requires accuracy, the usual desktop and OS GUI activity, and even fast games like Unreal Tournament. No problems. Most people complaining about jerky and unreliable movement have one of 2 problems 1) Defective unit 2) This mouse does not need a mouse mat, but the wrong kind of surface (For instance, mats of a single color) will not be adequate for the sensor shot comparision method used by to determine current/previous position, and the result is erratic and unreliable movement. If you have problems, be sure to try a different mouse mat. My results have ranged from horrible to excellent (I am not using a 3M Precise Mousing Surface mat... not the smoothest and fastest I found, but very accurate with this mouse). Find the right surface, with the right pattern and it's so smooth and light you'll be impressed when doing graphic work without a tablet. And it is always a new mouse, no more mouse ball cleaning, performance will not degrade with time. Quite a rat. Good hardware and solid driver/control module. I wasn't disappointed with Bill this time.
Rating: Summary: Needs for repair after a couple of weeks!!! Review: I bought IntelliMouse Explorer just about one month ago and I really have a lot of bad impressions. My previous mouse was a Microsoft bus mouse and it has died after 10 years(!!!) of perfect working. I've respected the name of Microsoft very much before my last purchase. My IntelliMouse had started work very strange after a couple of weeks of using. The mouse cursor used to be very unstable and free jumping back and forth, the buttons used to click 7-8 times from 10 attempts, that "beautiful" red light sometimes was turned off etc. By some reasons I decided to check up mouse's tail and it didn't have even one unbroken wire in the cable...I had to cut for about 10 inches of the cable since that piece was absolutely destroyed...after that repair the mouse started to work fine...for the next two weeks...and here we go again...the cable is broken...I don't know what Microsoft means as a lifetime warranty and how long that "lifetime" is but would be just miracle if those mice could work any longer than several months...In the rest the mouse is great...but but but...impressions are very bad because the cable is lousy and even worst that I've ever seen...I think Microsoft has to "update" those tails and before they will do that I think the better way to waste your money is a purchasing of IntelliMouse Explorer...I guess I'd like to buy ten of cheap "no name" mice that could be equal by their price to one IME instead that "brand name" mouse...really that would be much much better...pmm@ok.ru (product ID 51381-577-107225303-00000 made in Mexico)
Rating: Summary: Is there such a thing as a Stealth Recall? Review: My Intellimouse Explorer intermittently stops responding for unknown reasons and will not resume without reattaching the mouse or even a hard boot. It has done this since it was new and I thought Windows itself might be the cause. But Microsoft has evidently had so many complaints of hanging or freezing pointers and OS associated with certain Microsoft optical mouse products that they issued a recall and extended warranty coverage. I was never contacted by them about my product (purchased new) and only found out about the recall by doing a Google search for "Intellimouse Explorer stops responding". Two sites reporting the recall reference a Microsoft Hardware web page that reportedly displays an open letter from Microsoft on the defect and the recall. Guess what's on the web page? "Sorry, there is no Microsoft.com web page matching your request." Gosh golly gee, I wonder what's going on here...
Rating: Summary: Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Review: I'd just like to thank "johnny5dm" who left instructions on how to properly take this mouse apart. I had a problem with the left-click button sticking (this is my second mouse like this), so I took it apart, snapped the button plate back into place and saved myself some money. Thanks again, "johnny5dm"...I owe ya one!
Rating: Summary: Great looks - Good Mouse Review: I've had this mouse for almost two years now (i think?) and I still use it. I love it. The software allows you to customize the wheel button and two navigation buttons on the side to do specific task in specific programs which is positively wonderful - my favorite feature. The light on the mouse's booty is rather nice too! It's definitely an attractive mouse. It looks better in person. My only gripes are 1) after two years of use, the little pads under the body of the mouse are coming off (two are already gone) and the finish is wearing off and 2) it's really easy to slip up and hit the navigation buttons while browsing the internet which can cause you to lose form information if you're using internet explorer or restart flash and shockwave games or just plain be somewhat of an annoyance. It is guaranteed that you WILL slip at least once, but it is an otherwise great mouse.
Rating: Summary: best mouse I've ever used! Review: I have been working on computers for a living for nearly 14 years and have used virtually hundreds of different kinds of mice. This mouse is by far the best mouse I have ever used. Not only does the optical tracking work perfectly on any surface (except maybe a mirror) but the wheel lets you quickly scroll through long lists and the buttons on the sides of the mouse are really handy when used as forward and back buttons, which works not only on the web but in Windows Explorer as well. all in all this mouse works perfectly and I cant think of anything I would do to improve it except maybe make it cordless (if it works perfectly, I've had bad experiences with cordless mice in the past.)
