Rating: Summary: Does the stuff, but Review: 1. The 90 min recodring is NOT usable as the sound quality is tooo poor. It should have been advertized for only 22 or 33 min recording time.2. One way download, so onece you download and delete the file from the DW-90, cant get it back on the DW-90! Its a major setback if you do lot of recording and might want to reveiew while NOT with the PC. Guess its to protect the MP-3 players. 3. The claimed directional MIC sensitivity is worse than human ears. 4. As of Oct 22nd, 02 .The olympus website does not list the DW-90 driver /software any more! Surprise !!! Conclusion :Price wise its a bad buy , but compared to the basic analog recorders its stylish and kinda workable.
Rating: Summary: limited functionality, short duration very good LP mode poor Review: Bought this model to record science lecture notes, but the advertized 90 minute recording capability is only in LP mode. In LP mode, the playback is completely illegible. In HQ mode, the sound is superb, but you only get 22 minutes of recording. I will return this and continue looking. Should have read the reviews here first, it would have saved me time but I was out on errands and stopped in at a local superstore to buy one.
Rating: Summary: Perfect! Review: did a little research before buying,,........ like the speaker (loud) usb to store on my pc or as i'm a reporter, i can listen carefully at home to what i heard in the field. easy to use.... many many features to explore... love it
Rating: Summary: A tiny, nifty little recorder, but ... Review: Highly recommended if you need no more than 33 minutes of recording time. Sound quality is reasonably good in HQ or SP mode, but recording time in these modes is limited to about 22 minutes & 33 minutes, respectively. Sound quality in the LP mode (90 minutes recording time) is so bad that this mode is really unusable for anything more than brief notes spoken directly into the microphone -- and even for that, the quality is "iffy" at best. PC software works well, and USB file transfers are quick and easy.
Rating: Summary: Excellent recorder at a good price Review: I bought this digital recorder to record my children and save it for posterity. It works great and the ability to transfer and save the recordings on my personal computer is outstanding. I would have given it five stars but for the relatively limited recording capacity.
Rating: Summary: Small device, big potential Review: I have found this recorder to be great for my needs. I'm a student with a low-budget, and thought I might get this to record some of my lectures. Unfortunately, the LP mode isn't quite good enough for that, but it's great for recording shorter conversations or meetings. As I also work for the school paper, this device is PERFECT for recording short interviews. The price is good for what it is capable of, and I've found its ability to transfer right from the recorder to my PC (through USB) invaluable. This is one of the only devices I've seen on the market with this capability at such a low price. As others have already stated, the LP mode isn't that great, but it's not as bad as you may think. The quality is poor, but the words are still understandable. If you're trying to transcribe a conversation on LP mode, you may have some difficulty, but it'll still work. I would not recommend it for something you would want others to listen to, however. I use the HQ mode to record short messages and send them home to the family, and the SP mode is good if you want to record a lengthier conversation and listen to it later. It would be nice if there was a little more time for both of these modes (22 minutes for HQ and 33 minutes for SP), but at the price and size this comes at, I can't complain. Again, great entry-level recorder.
Rating: Summary: Best gadget I have Review: I have had no problems with the USB software under XP (now I did have to download a new driver from the Olympus.com). I use it all the time to capture notes as well as transcibe. Very, very happy.
Rating: Summary: Compact yet full of features Review: I just got this little guy (so small it fits in the palm of my hand), and I am thoroughly satisfied with it. It is small, yet it has a lot of features, and it seems to be well manufactured - doesn't seem like it will break real soon or anything. I have recorded four files so far, and have even transfered them to my laptop (running Win 98 SE). The installation of the software was seamless, and all works great. I have not had a chance to try out some features of the recorder (lecture mode for instance), but I am very satisfied with what I got so far.

Rating: Summary: Good recorder, handy size Review: I own an Olympus analog tape recorder (L400) and use that as my dictating machine. I wouldn't trade it for a digital (at least, not yet), but I did need a pocket sized digital recorder that I could use for quick notes. I found it in this device. First of all, the other statements about the recording quality for LQ (low) are true: it is practically worthless. If you have a high pitched voice (unlike me), speak rather loud, and enunciate your words clearly, you MAY have some use for LQ, but I wouldn't count on it. However, I go SP (standard) for all of my notes and it works great. I would use HQ (high) if I needed to record something from another person, but SP should work fine for you. The controls are fairly intuitive and you are up to speed quickly with this device. The mic is a good size and picks things up well, but I wouldn't use this thing for lectures, especially in a big lecture hall. Small classroom might be another story. The device has a clock and a counter on it that records what time you gave the message. It also has a hold button so if you put it in your pocket or purse, it won't accidentally go off and record what goes on in those deep dark places (good thing). The device has three folders. I don't use the folders as much as I thought I would, but I'm sure that will come with time. For example, you can put work stuff in one folder, personal in another, and, say, long term thoughts that you want to keep handy but not have to click through in your daily life in a third. Anyway you cut it, it is a good device and worthwhile. (I can't speak to the USB port and transfer to PC as I haven't used it. If/when I do, I will update the review accordingly.)
