Summary: Viking 256 MB SD Card (SD256M)
Review: I bought this for my Minolta Dimage G500 digital camera. It worked the first time I inserted the card without any problem. I find the speed acceptable - It is as fast as the 16MB Toshiba card that Minolta sent with the camera (G500 is a fast camera). Before buying I checked the memory compatibility with G500 at:
http://config.vikingcomponents.com/amazon/ or viking.amazon.com
I have been using it for only a couple of days and hence can't comment about the long term reliability (that's why only 4 stars)

Summary: Works great in my iPaq 3835
Review: I had a hard time to begin with, but once I reset my iPaq and it quickly recognized it. I started using it immediately w/o any problems. YES it only showz me 239MB of space but I am not worried about it. As I dont use it to store larger files, mp3s and stuff, so speed is really not an issue. But I dont see any problem in speed when I quickly loaded 100s files, though small in size.

Its worth it.

Summary: Okay fo MP3 player but too slow for a D-CAM
Review: I have this card for over half year with my Minota F100.
It works proply but it writes in too slow. It taks about a couple of seconds ( about 5-10 sec) to write a 5 MB image file into the card so I have to wait date write in in order to take next shot.

Now I use this card for my Rio Cali MP3 player, it works peoperly
because it does not requie the cared to write in and read a big file in a fast rate.

Summary: Slow is its only speed
Review: I just received this card for use in my digicam. I've used and owned many digicams with various types of memory cards and I must say that without doubt the write time of this card is the slowest I've ever seen.

I will be returning it ASAP. Spend a little more and get a Panasonic.

Summary: UPC Code wasn't included so no rebate
Review: I ordered one of these and was going to send in for the rebate making this card a great deal but when Amazon shipped the card it came in a plain cardboard box with no vendor packaging. Therefore, I couldn't send in the required UPC code to get the rebate. The card isn't that good a deal without the rebate. Others are less expensive and better quality.

Summary: Afraid it's true
Review: I was not deterred by the previous reviewers' comments here; they mostly referred to shipping times being poor, not on the quality of the unit itself. The other critique was that it wasn't a full 256MB, which is true, but is also the case with all "256MB" SD cards.

Having had good experiences with Viking CF cards, I decided to chance it. Got my card quickly (from another reseller); unfortunately, the card was DOA (defective on arrival). Writing data to the card was extremely slow, and would generate many, MANY write errors when sending it large files. What's the point of getting a 256MB card if you can't write large files to it? So, I returned the Viking card and got a Lexar 256MB SD card instead & it works great.

Maybe I just got a rare, defective card, but I'm not brave enough to waste anymore time on it. So, though, I didn't agree with the previous reviewers' reasons for rating this card so low, they did get the ranking right.

Summary: DONT MAKE MY MISTAKE!
Review: it's been okay for a few months, then today, everything is suddenly gone! all gone, windows still showing 130M occupied, but nothing can be found! I tried quite a few software so far, nothing can be found!
be careful!

Summary: Mine was DOA
Review: Judging by other reviews here, there is a real quality problem with this card. Mine was no exception. Tried it in two different card readers. Neither would recognize the card. Couldn't reformat. No help on Viking website so tried Sandisk which others are claiming really makes this card. Tried their troubleshooting tips to no avail. I am an experienced PC user - this product is junk. Spend a few more dollars and avoid wasting time. I wish I could give this product zero stars but the one star can be for Amazon.com's good return policy.

Summary: Beyond expactations
Review: My card arrived very promptly, a couple days ahead of schedule. The card itself works well so far. As soon as I got it I started to load it up with mp3s, games and other apps on my iPAQ H3835. I crammed over half of it full, and it didn't give me any problems loading things like Age of Empires (over 10Mb). Write speed seemed to be speedy, but I cant really be the judge of that since it depends alot on the speed of your computer and handheld or other device etc. The one thing that really impressed me was the packaging it came in. First it was in a fairly large box (a little wider than a shoebox and little shorter) then inside that was a little shrinkwrapped box, inside that was a static bag cushioned between two pieces of foam, and lastly inside the bag was a little tiny plastic box with the SD card in it. Whew, talk about safe, that one wasn't going to get damaged in transit.
