Summary: Works with XP
Review: I agree with other reviewers. This is a straight forward installation into XP after a brief download of the XP drivers. But they do exist unlike card readers from other manufactures. A bit more expensive then others but it does actually work which is a plus for me.

Summary: Excellent device
Review: This card reader is an excellent means to get information from Cameras, etc., into a PC or Mac. It connects through the USB port, and then is addressed directly as if it were a disk drive. It's less fuss than most camera cables, and allows you to pop the memory card out of the camera, and directly read it, without all the mess and fuss of switching the camera to playback mode.

I use several of these readers, and have never had a problem with any of them. They have been an excellent purchase. They come with the appropriate software, or you can download newer versions of the software directly from Viking's website.

Summary: Not compatible with my XP!
Review: I bought this reader thinking that it would take care of any card I might throw its way in the years to come. Unfortunately, when I tried to install it onto my laptop with Windows XP, it could not install. I sent a message to Viking as I was instructed and they informed me that my system was incompatible. I tried to see if my system would work when I was considering the purchase, but that information was not available on the amazon website. It still isn't. I guess I shouldn't have assumed that XP could handle the software.
I have had to return the reader and will pay the shipping charges. I am certainly disappointed, but my camera (a Camedia C-700) has a fairly quick upload and I will use that until I find a suitable alternative.

Summary: Happy as a clam
Review: After a slight bump in the road installing the software in Windows XP, a prompt reply from Viking tech support prompted me to, or all things, read the directions!!
Installed hardware, and off and running on no time. I use an Olympus C2100 - great camera, lousy customer support.

Summary: Left me computerless for two weeks
Review: I bought this to go along with my Canon Powershot camera but when I installed this drive and went to use it...it didn't work. Then when I tried to go onto the internet or check my e-mail, that didn't work either! The drive and my modem weren't compatable but it took my computer tech quite a while to figure out what was wrong because he had to wait for Viking to reply back about the issue. By the time everything occured and my computer tech figured out what was wrong, the 30 day return period had almost lapsed. I was very displeased with this product.

Summary: Should be Standard Equipment!
Review: This is a great little device to add to any digital camera setup. It's like adding a whole new disk drive to your system and eliminates all the hassle of the upload issues. I don't know how I ever got along without it.

The installation of the unit was very simple, took about 30 seconds to connect it to the USB port in the back of the computer. The Setup Software was easy to run, no issues. Then I was in business. The device acts like another drive, E:, so no special software is needed to upload pictures. Simply copy from the E: drive to anywhere you want, most likely, the C:/My Pictures area.

If you do have some specialized software, I have Microsoft Picture It 2002, this device works even better. Picture It can access the photo right from the E: drive, you then edit the picture as needed, then save it to a permanent file. This way, you only have edited pictures on your system.

The use of this device does not tie up your camera. Simply take the media card out of the camera and put it into the device. Put a second media card (you have two, of course) into the camera and your off to the races.

A great timesaver, and use of resources. This device should be Stanard Equipment on all digital systems that use a media card.

Summary: Love it...but not with WindowsXP
Review: My IntelliFlash performed so well with my Dell 300MHz/Windows95 that I've bought 'em for other friends with digital cameras.

However, be warned that if your computer runs WindowsXP AND if you have an Iomega Zip drive (mine is parallel, not USB), you may experience driver conflicts that will prevent easy simultaneous use of both devices. Viking tech support has not been able to help me through this other than to blame Iomega's drivers. And Iomega tells me that XP comes with their latest driver. So now what?

Messy. And if it's not convenient to use this product...well, that's a problem.

Summary: Not worth the money or the hassle....
Review: At first I bought this item it worked okay and was better then having to plug my camera in all the time, but after starting to conflict with other software it would lose contact with my computer after a couple uses. I would have to re-boot to re-establish contact. I ended up tossing this product. I recommend a Kodak reader for your Kodak cameras.

Summary: Great, unless you use Mac OS X
Review: I work on a Macintosh and the reader is fabulous for moving photos from my digital camera. It became indispensable for me. But there are no drivers for Mac OS X, and Viking hasn't announced any plans for compatability. As a result, the ease-of-use that I bought the reader for has gone waaaay down.

Summary: Easy to use and reliable.
Review: No problems in 1.5 years. Have only used the smartmedia slot. Have used this with win 95, 98, 2000, and XP. All drivers are available from their website.
