Summary: SanDisk Smart Media Card Reader
Review: I recently purchased two SanDisk card readers to transfer images from a digital camera to my computers. After several successful transfers, both computers began to freeze-up during data transfer. SanDisk's web site provided an updated driver, which did not resolve the problem. I also followed SanDisk's instructions for formatting the Smart Media card, but the freeze-ups continue. I am now researching an alternate brand of card reader, and other methods of image transfer...this card reader does not appear to be reliable.

Summary: No XP Drivers Available
Review: I switched from Windows 98 to XP - now am unable to use my San Disk Reader. I checked their web site but no XP drivers yet. Other than this, I was extremely satisfied with the Reader.

Summary: Great investment for digital camera fans
Review: I was a little leery of this product since it was getting some poor reviews...but some people had no problems so I took a chance. I am using Windows 2000 Professional and I do have a CD-Rewriter as well.

I went to the SanDisk website and got the latest software, installed it, plugged in the lil' beastie, and was downloading and uploading images at unbelievable speeds (my only previous experience was with the dog-slow serial interface on my Olympus D-340R).

I can only speak for myself, but I am 100% satisfied with this product. It is a huge time-saver, super easy to install and operate, making it great for novices and experts alike.

Summary: Poor technical support
Review: I was given this card reader by my father that swares by them , I used it on his comp while on vacation and it was great took it home to use it on mine and no go . It says the device does not respond to the drivers . I have contacted the company twice through email and have loaded and unloaded the software too many times to count as well as remove and reinstall my CDR/RW . Conflicts may possibly exist with Windows Me ,if I get a response back I will let you all know .

Summary: Great for Macs!!
Review: I've read some mixed reviews of this product for PCs, but I'm a Mac user with a G4 and this works WONDERFULLY. It's so nice not to have to deal with the slow serial connection. I got it a few months ago, plugged it into the back of my computer, and it worked straight away. The only confusion I had was how to put in the SmartMedia card (metallic strips facing down) and that was in the guide I got with the Reader, so that was a non-issue.

The SmartMedia card shows up on your desktop as a free-standing disk. Click on it, and you get a list of all your photos/files. You can either work with them straight off the SmartMedia or copy them over to your system. You can also delete the photos off the disk by dragging them into the trash and emptying. It's great if you want to keep certain photos (or files) on the SmartMedia and delete others.

A few words of caution, which the guide warns you about- make sure you plug this reader into a USB port in the back of your computer or one of the ones in your monitor. It needs the power from direct ports- it doesn't work if you plug it into an unpowered hub or your keyboard. Also, make sure you drag and drop the SmartMedia disk icon into the trash before you pull it out of the reader, otherwise your Mac will crash.

I highly recommend this to anyone with a USB-enabled Mac. It's completely worth the price.

Summary: Does not work with Windows 2000!
Review: Just a word of warning - The product specifications state that this product works with Windows 2000 but it doesn't. I'm looking at the package right now which clearly states that it is only USB compatible w/ Windows 95 or 98. I tried to install it on my Windows 2000 system and it gave me an error which reiterated that they aren't compatible.
