Summary: Convenient little device
Review: If you're like me and have a digital camera that uses compact flash and a laptop that always has a free PCMCIA slot, this is an excellent value. Leave it in your slot all the time, it won't have an effect on your system when the CF card isn't in, but it will permanently add a CF slot to your system.This means that you can dispense with the camera-to-computer cable and just plug the card into the slot. When you do, it will be recognized as a removable disk, kind of like a Syquest or Zip disk, and show up in your "My Computer" view or Mac desktop, and maybe (this is how Nikon View works anyway) pop up your digicam software. This really is by far the most convenient way to deal with a digital camera if you use a laptop.

Summary: Just what you buy! no more no less
Review: It works fine under Windows ME, 2000, and XP, because you dont need drivers, I read a bad review for this item, and let me tell to the autor: or you have an old windows version(98 or 95) or you need to contact support, but not for this device, you need suport for the CF card developer, because this its just an adapter. Its faster than usb readers(max 12mbps) and of course really more faster than cable connection from the device(1.2mbps), the speed limit its the speed of youre CF card(more than 12x its great).

Summary: Decent product at a great price
Review: Many people have said that they had trouble with the drivers on this device and my experience was a little more troubled than I had hoped, but since I haven't seen anyone tell people actually how to do the install, I thought I would. This is my experience with what works in Windows XP SP2
1. Install the device and insert a CF card.
2. Windows will say that the drivers aren't compatible with this operating system.
3. Go to the device manager and find the device, it should have an exclamation point over its icon.
4. Double click on the device and click reinstall driver.
5. I clicked 'Yes, this time only' for connecting to Windows Update, although I don't think this step matters.
6. Click 'Install the software automatically' and click Next.
7. Windows will look and eventually find the correct drivers.
This method worked for me, but I'm not sure how it will work for anyone else. I don't know why Windows didn't find the drivers when you attach the device, but it didn't for me.
The only other problem with this device is that when you insert a CF card the card is flush with the device and with your laptop and this makes it difficult to remove the CF card without ejecting the entire device. However, the up side of this is that there is nothing to stick out and get caught when traveling with your laptop.

Review: received the item very quickly and it works great. much cheaper than an external reader. i use it for my windows NT that wont support USB and its very very fast for downloads (almost immediately). Great value, xlnt product, great response.

Review: Received this adapter yesterday, plugged it into my Compaq Aramada 110s, powered up the computer, it showed up as drive E, a couple clicks later I was transfering and editing photos. When I was using the software that came with my Cannon A20, I had the same photo 3 times on my hard-drive, now it's only in My Pictures. You can do all the editing on the CompactFlash card. The best part is NOT having to use camera batteries to transfer and edit. It can stay in the computer, takes up '0' space and works great.

Summary: didn't work for me
Review: Should be simple....I put an 8MB CompactFlash card in the adapter, but the adapter in the card slot on my laptop, and....nothing. I could not get my computer to recognize the card, it never showed up as another drive, and of course the adapter comes with ABSOLUTELY NO PAPERWORK to refer to. I looked on Viking's site for help, but all relevant notes clearly assume that your computer sees the card, and all glitches must happen after that. Four emails to Viking tech support elicited no response. Lame lame lame!

Summary: Not compatible w/ Mircodrive
Review: This adapter only accept type I compactflash card, i.e. those flash memory card; It can't fit type II card, such as microdrive, and some CFII modems. The reason is the CompactFlash Type II card (or so called CompatctFlash+, CFII) is slightly thicker than the CompactFlash Type I card. So if you are looking for a CompactFlash type II adapter, keep looking.

Review: This adapter works great for quickly moving digital images from cameras to your pc. The only problem I have with it relates to the overall length of the card. They should have made it 1/2 inch longer so you could remove it more easily from the PC card slot. When inserted, it is "flush" with the PC.
