Review: How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about. Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.
The Viking 1GB CompactFlash Card, like most 1000MB cards, will store on average 1137 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 853 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera, 512 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 409 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 320 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.
One last thing to consider when buying a 1000MB card. Do not necessarily choose the least expensive card available. A 1000MB card should be an investment. You need to consider quality, reliability, and speed with a card of this capacity. Worse case scenario would be you taking this card (and only this card) on vacation with you overseas and for some reason it gets corrupted. Then what do you do? Purchasing a high capacity card changes the game a little, just be mindful of that before you hit the buy button.

Summary: Useful 1GB Compact Flash card
Review: After upgrading from a 3.2 megapixel digital camera (canon S20) to the 4.0 megapixel (canon s400), it was time to eliminate the somewhat useless 16 MB, 32 MB, and 64 MB Compact Flash cards from my arsenal of digital photography gear.I have kept 128 MB, 256 MB, and 512 MB compact flash cards, but have found the Viking 1 GB compact flash to write and read quickly (in part on canon's new image processing and buffering in the S400 powershot camera). Although I debated using a multispeed USB enhanced "digital film" product, for the price this Viking CF card is the best value currently (12 June 2003) available given the rebate and free ground shipping at Amazon.com. I would recommend this product to other digital photographers, especially with the latest 4 and 5 megapixel cameras.

Review: Got my card here in July at a terrific price. Works great in my 10D. Took 3 months for Viking rebate but finally got that too.

Summary: OEM, not Retail
Review: Great card, huge capacity, fast. I bought this card during a $50 rebate offer. But a word of caution: the part shipped is OEM part, not retail, and hence there is no UPC. This unfortunately invalidates the rebate requirements, according to the downloadable rebate instructions (above). Perhaps Viking will still honor the rebate without the UPC...

Summary: Very fast but getting errors with minolta 7I
Review: I am amazed at how fast this card saves a photo. Half meg photos take about 1/8 to 1/4 second. The only problem is I keep getting an error saying the card is not accessible after the camera has been turned off and on. I guess I will get to review their product support now. This would be 5 stars if it where not for the errors I'm getting. It could still be a problem with the camera, however the 16mb card that came with the camera doesn't seem to have any problems (except being to small to be practical.)

Summary: Great storage
Review: I bought the Viking 1 GB compact flash card to use in my Canon EOS 10D Digital Camera and I have not been disappointed. The Canon 10D shoots up to 3fps and the Viking flash card is fast. When both writing and on readback, the compact flash is quick and the camera never has to wait for the reading/writing. In addition, the Viking card provides a true 1GB of storage. I'm very pleased with the flash card and probably will buy a another one.

Summary: DO NOT BUY!
Review: I bought this viking 1GB cf card a while ago and it worked beautifully in my Nikon 5000 for a little while. Then when I started taking high quality pics (5 megapixel), the card was very slow, then eventually stated card error. From that day on, I have not been able to use the card, even after formatting and I lost about 200 of my pictures which I took on a trip. A Definate DO NOT BUY!!! I have had good use with SanDisk and Kingston. Again, DO NOT BUY!!!

Summary: Viking drops the ball
Review: I don't know if they wanted to be one of the first to put an affordable 1 GB CompactFlash card out or what. They seemed to have skimped on the quality. I just received an Olympus C-5050 and the Viking 1GB card yesterday and formatted the card in it last night. Today the card is un-readable, un-formattable and unusuable. I tried recyclying power, different batteries, etc. I just got email back from Viking tech support and all they said was to return it...I also read another review on one of these things [not working]. I'm not risking losing hundreds of pictures. I'm going with another brand.

Summary: Hope it could be faster
Review: I have CF cards from other manufacturer, including Viking. Two things I noticed: 1)It used up the battery faster than other CF. 2)Response time to write is slower than others, so it is good for still pictures. I missed quite a few good picture moment for my 3 years old son as he played.
