Summary: Doesn't Work Properly.....
Review: Purchased this recently - works fine for my Smart Media card - but can't read or write to my 128MB Memory Stick. Still waiting for a response from Dazzle Support (4 days after submitting query). Will wait a few more days before returning the item.

Overall - quite disappointed - had the potential to be a very useful product!

Summary: Small and multiformat but not fast
Review: The reader is small and can read all my different memory types which is great. It would have gotten 5 stars except it doesn't transfer any faster on a USB 2.0 port than the standard USB 1.1 ports. The USB 2.0 label on the packaging is misleading as it doesn't seem to be fully support the extra bandwidth.

Summary: Great For MOST Media Types
Review: This card reader is really good for the Sandisk Flash cards (which i primarily use), however, I found that I also encountered the problem of reading Lexar brand memory chips. The Zio / Dazzle website does NOT offer the necessary firmware update on their website, but they do offer to have you send in the reader to be updated by them. I recently wrote to the Zio Technical Support and got this in reply:

"We do no release firmware updates to the public, if you run a firmware update on this reader you risk the chance of damaging the reader and voiding the warranty. If you would like us to run the firmware update for you we can have you send in the reader to us and we will update it. Please first just reply back with your full name, address and phone number. Thank you."

Summary: Use Memory Cards like Floppy Disks
Review: This Dazzle 6-in-1 memory card reader is wonderful. With it, I can read and write to any memory card format (Compact Flash, Memory Stick, Smart Media, IBM Microdrives, MultiMedia cards, and SD Cards) as though it were a floppy disk. The unit's small size makes it very portable. And its plug-and-play capability makes it extremely easy to store and swap data amongst all of my PC's.

Here are six ways I use the Dazzle 6-in-1:

1) Downloading digital image files -- With the Dazzle 6-in-1, I can use my normal downloading program to transfer digital image files directly from my camera's memory card to my PC. Since my Dazzle is always either connected to my deskptop PC, or always with me for my laptop, this is much more convenient than hooking up my digital camera to my computer (and trying to find the cord) to download.

2) Acccessing a single photo -- Using my photo editing program (Photoshop Elements), I can also access any individual file on the memory card. (The only way I can access a single photo through my digital camera, for example, is to download the entire contents, which is a pain if all I want is the last photo taken.)

3) Transferring files (of all types) among computers -- To transfer large files (photos, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations) among my PC's, I normally resorted to using CD's, or e-mailing the file to myself (such as from work to home, or vice versa). Unfortunately, not all of my computers have a CD drive (but they all have a USB). And working from a memory card is definitely easier than trying to download (or upload) a file using a 56k home e-mail modem.

4) Downloading software updates -- For software updates downloaded from the internet, I would normally save them on my hard drive or on a CD. With the Dazzle, I can now store the files on a memory card instead. This saves the memory capacity of my hard drive; and (as I mentioned earlier) not all of my PC's have CD drives. Using a Dazzle and a memory card (and loading through the USB) allows me to more convenient update all of my computers.

5) Transfering music files -- My MP3 player also uses a memory card. Using the Dazzle to download songs (from my PC) to the memory card -- is actually faster and more convenient -- than downloading into the MP3 player directly.

6) Carrying my work home, not my PC -- Since transferring large files was such a pain, I normally ended up lugging my laptop computer home with me if I needed to complete a project after hours. With my Dazzle, I can now take the data with me (on a memory card), and leave my work PC -- at the office where it belongs! (Cool!)

The Dazzle comes with a software disk. But I found that the Dazzle was plug-and-play with my Windows XP computers (so no software installation was required.)

The plethora of memory cards available can make data storage seem confusing and intimidating. But with the Dazzle 6-in-1, they are now all as easy to use -- as "floppies." I highly recommend it!

Summary: Problems with Win 2000 Pro
Review: This device did not work for me on Win 2000 Pro. I contacted Dazzle's customer service by phone (and was put on hold for ever) and by e-mail (without reply). Since the device works on XP (a colleague has it) I will be giving it away to someone using XP, and will buy an Addonics Pocket Digidrive instead. Here is the text of my e-mail to Dazzle describing the problem:
Hello,
I just purchased the 6-in-1, installed the software from the CD that came with it onto my Sony Vaio SR17k running 2000 Pro (it supposedly "installed successfully"), then connected the unit to my 7-port BAFO USB hub. Win 2000 told me it had found new hardware and would locate the driver, but the process ended with an error. Now I see the device as "Removable disk (S:)" on "My Computer", but the "Device manager" has a yellow question mark next to the "eUSB ORCA Quad Reader", and in the "Properties" field it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)". I tried the "Reinstall Driver" option, but it does not find any on the CD, no matter what I do (I even followed the instructions you give on your web site under "Error: Function driver not specified - Windows 2000", but when I click on "Display a list of drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver", then "Have disk" and "Browse" it, only the DMORCA.inf file and no drivers appear in the 2000 folder). Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
GG

Summary: Piece of junk, stay away
Review: This item had lots of promise, but it falls completely flat.

I purchased the item, followed the instructions to install it, after I restarted my windows 2000 system twice, it didn't work. It kept resetting my powered USB hub.

Turns out, this device does *NOT* adhere to the USB specs ... and does not work if plugged into a USB hub.

I called thier tech support people, and was told that they only support a configuration where the devices is plugged directly into the USB port of the computer, no hubs.

Unforunately, for me, that's not an option ... the USB on my system is way in the back and I don't want to be reaching back there to swap USB devices around.
