Review: Compared to my old USB card reader, this thing is very fast. Setup on Windows XP is basically unneeded. It sets itself up when you plug it into the firewire port. If you have large cards to read in, this is worth the extra money over USB to save you time.

Summary: Not Ready For Prime Time
Review: I purchased this Digital Film Reader along with a FireWire PCI card from PC Connection. It worked fine on installation, but the next day it wouldn't recognize the CompactFlash card (or any other CF card.) Lexar live support walked me though the troubleshooting and determined the reader was defective. PC Connection overnighted a replacement, and I returned the defective unit. Once again, the replacement worked great initially, but within 24 hours no longer recognized the CompactFlash card. I decided it wasn't worth the aggravation, and returned both the Reader and the FireWire card for a refund. This has now cost me a fair amount in postage and insurance. I feel this system is not ready for prime time. When it did work briefly, it was not that much faster than connecting the camera (a Nikon Coolpix 5400) directly to the computer via USB. The only thing it did real fast was self destruct. Also, I question the wear and tear on a CompactFlash card when you are continually pulling it out, inserting it in a Reader, pulling it out again, then reinserting it in the camera. My Advice: Stay with the USB cord that came with your camera and leave the CompactFlash card inside the camera.

Summary: Didn't work for me
Review: I purchased this reader in hopes of speeding up my download of digital photo files. I got it to work after a few attempts but then it would hangup my computer running win2000. I tried it on another computer running winxp and it worked once on that computer too before it hung up that one. An email to lexar proved worthless since they chose not respond to my problem. I returned the unit back to amazon.com

Summary: Fast and easy to use
Review: I received the reader as a gift last night, plugged it into my Mac running OS X without installing any software, and it worked fine with both iPhoto and ImageCapture.
My initial test showed that with my memory card, this was about twice as fast as connecting the camera through a USB connection -- nice, but I was hoping for faster.
The device is also a bit bigger than I expected. I am fairly happy with this, although if I had not received this as a gift, I would have to think about whether being twice as fast as a USB reader is worth the extra cost.

Review: I use this product on Windows XP and a couple of CF 256 cards and let me tell you, it is unbeatable. It takes 10 seconds to transfer 100 MB. I tried USB 2.0 at a friend's and it is slower.
I use it to transfer music, pictures, files and works great!

Review: I went through two before I gave up, the first one never worked proeprly. It transferred very slowly at first and then not at all. I RMA'd the first one and the one that replaced it worked for two uses before dying. I've since picked up a $8 usb reader that is much slower but much more reliable. I've done lots of video editing with the firewire card so I don't know what kept killing the drives. It'll take some real convincing to get me to buy another lexar product. I hate being negative, but this experience really soured me. It sounds like many have had better success than I, but be ware.

Review: I've had this card reader for about two months now, running on a Mac G4 500 Dual processor under system 9.2. No problems. Does it's job well without glitches. Takes both Compact Flash Type 1 and CF type 2 cards, including my IBM microDrive. Download of large digital photo files is considerably faster than with my USB reader. Simple device without a lot of bells and whistles. Does what it's advertised to do at a good price.
