Summary: NOT bogus, nor a bait-and-switch
Review: Despite what the previous reviewer thinks, this is not a bait-and-switch tactic. The first thing you learn in economics class is "supply and demand". Amazon's supply simply could not meet the demand! Maybe it was a clearance item hence the "discontinued" tag? But that's irrelevant.

I found out about this item's great price on March 8th from a "Hot Deals" type of website and immediately placed my order that same day for two of them. On that day, this item was listed #1 in Amazon's Electronics Top Seller list, so it's obvious that word was spreading fast. So fast, that when I e-mailed my friends after I placed my order, I received a reply from a friend a few hours later saying that Amazon was already out. My order is already in transit as of today (March 12).

Update (March 17): I received both "storage devices" today and tested them thoroughly using SiSoft SANDRA's Removable Storage/Flash Benchmark.

SiSoftware Sandra Benchmark Results:

512B Files Test
Read Performance : 4612 operation(s)/min (38 kb/sec, 0x)
Write Performance : 366 operation(s)/min (3123 bytes/sec)
Combined Index : 818 operation(s)/min

32kB Files Test
Read Performance : 1325 operation(s)/min (707 kb/sec, 4x)
Write Performance : 264 operation(s)/min (141 kb/sec, 0x)
Combined Index : 508 operation(s)/min

256kB Files Test
Read Performance : 212 operation(s)/min (905 kb/sec, 5x)
Write Performance : 123 operation(s)/min (525 kb/sec, 2x)
Combined Index : 165 operation(s)/min

2MB Files Test
Read Performance : 27 operation(s)/min (922 kb/sec, 5x)
Write Performance : 22 operation(s)/min (751 kb/sec, 4x)
Combined Index : 25 operation(s)/min

Please note, this was on a Dell Optiplex with USB 1.1. I haven't tested it with a USB 2.0 system yet where it could be faster. I should add that mine didn't include the Viking logo (they were completely plain), and that since the case is transparent, you can see that the main chip is made by Lexar. In fact, the storage device is detected as a "Lexar Digital Film USB Device" in Windows 2000. The tiny green LED located on the bottom of the device is a nice touch. it lights up whenever it's being accessed so you know when it's safe to remove it.

Summary: Perfect
Review: Its amazing how fast this little drive is. This is my first USB drive and it works flawlessly. As a computer science major, this is an ESSENTIAL tool!!!

Summary: Bogus AMAZON Bait and Switch
Review: This product and promotion should run through March 31 with Viking. It's now 3/10 and Amazon lists it as DISCONTINUED, but offers more expensive models available to buy.

BAIT 'em in, and SWITCH the offer to higher priced items.

Why even bother coming here?
