Summary: Great product, works flawlessly
Review: This reader works perfectly with my home-built desktop (running Win98 SE) and my Compaq laptop (running WinME). I downloaded the latest drivers from the Viking web page, and I believe these made the difference in the ease of installation.

Summary: Great Product
Review: I bought the Viking card reader after hearing how easy it was to install and use. It sure has lived up to that reputation. I just followed the instructions and it installed just like they said it would. I have Windows 98 on my iMachine. It was so easy to install that I thought I must have done something wrong as it was all automatic and quick. I called Viking's technical support. They were very fast answering and very polite, and they answered all of my questions. I have now been using this for a few weeks and am very happy with the product and the original support I received. They had suggested that I move the files onto my hard drive to avoid over-filling the card with temporary files before making changes to the pictures. I have been using the reader with the Kodak card, a USB-Ready card I bought, and a Viking card.

Summary: Windows ME users beware!
Review: I installed the software as described, and all seemed well until I tried to read my first CF card. After downloading, I ejected the card, burning my fingers in the process! Upon reviewing the results of the download, I discovered that a number of the pictures did not transfer and were no longer on the CF card. When I called Viking, they informed me that they did not advertise their unit as working with Windows ME -- obviously my mistake. When I asked how this could cause the obvious overheating, they could not give an answer -- but more troubling -- they didn't seem to care! When I have a chance, I will retry with another computer with Windows 98 before I pack it up and send it back.

Summary: Very easy setup, but big problems
Review: I quite agree with others here about the setup and use of this product. It installs so fast, I wondered if I'd made a mistake. When running, it sets up 2 new drive letters (on my computer drives E: and F:) Thereafter, your flash cards can be used just like a floppy disk can. Very neat and easy.Now for the bad part. The first one I purchased worked fine, but the eject button never popped out, so I had to use fingernails and patience to extract the card each time. No problem--I'd just return it for a new one (and Amazon is great about returns.) But the second one - Yikes!! To make a long story short, whenever I copied files from my card, the reader would delete about half of my files. Deleted. Gone. History. After I lost some irreplacable photos of my kids, I got mad but experimented with what became a blank card. Yep, every time I would select some files and copy them, the last half would disappear forever. Now I don't know about you, but when a product has such a major problem as this, I'm not too understanding. My confindence was gone. I didn't want to risk seeing if the third one would be the charm. I won't use this product again.

Summary: Simply a great device
Review: One of the easiest computer devices to install ever.The software which came with my Kodak DC 290 was extremely buggy (although the camera itself is a joy to own). The Viking reader was the answer to my downloading problems and well worth the money.Not only is it much simpler to get photos into my computer but much faster as well. Even very large files download almost instantly. This product has enhanced my enjoyment of digital photography immensly.

Summary: Didn't work for me!
Review: My system met all the requirements for the Intelliflash card reader. I loaded the software and re-started my system as directed. Once I plugged the card reader into my USB hub, all the device drivers appeared to load without a problem. I then attempted to read a CF card from the reader. I don't know why, but my screen (graphics) went crazy and I got a windows protection error. I called Viking and they said it must be a system incompatibility but they couldn't tell me why. I had to boot into safe mode and remove the devices before my system (windows 98)would reboot. I am packing it up and returning it!

Summary: Works as advertised
Review: This is a no-brainer to install and use. Just put the CD in and connect the cable. Put the card in and double click the icon and a couple of folders. From then on it's just like using any other files. You can rename, select all, copy, delete, whatever....I'm using mine with a 32mb SanDisk and Fujifilm finepix 1400 camera. After your done uploading to your pc, you can just select all files on the card and delete. A clean disk goes back into your camera. There were no software conflicts for me. In fact, I deleted the software that came with the camera.

Summary: Very fast picture transfer but download new zip disk drivers
Review: This device worked great once for my 3.34 megapixel downloads, but then I had a problem getting it to work. I called Viking tech support and found out that older versions of IOMEGA zip drivers were not compatible -- my zip's drivers thought Viking drives were zip drives. Once I downloaded new drivers for IOMEGA and reinstalled Viking drivers I could again download off my Smartmedia cards at lightening speed.

Summary: WINDOWS "ME" COMPATABILITY..
Review: Irecently upgraded???to me,and now cannot use this device.it freezes the cpu @ update h/w info.data base.the viking support group says"sorry we do not have nor do wee expect to have drivers win me is not listed assupported on the box or anywhere due to various issues with windows mewe cannotsupport the use of the reader with the os.this maay not be the proper forum for this event but all shoulld bbe aware.

Summary: Ready, Set, Download!
Review: I purchased this great little gizmo to download photos from a 48MB Viking flashcard to my Compaq Presario. I'm not a great computer whiz, but this setup was so easy, nearly anyone can do it. The entire set-up, from opening the box to downloading pictures took less than 10 minutes. One of the reasons I bought the item was to save downloading time directly from my Canon S100. I didn't want to waste battery life downloading pictures, and for just a few dollars more than the cost of the extra battery, I was able to download data much faster. I haven't even tried to download from the camera, because this setup us so easy, its the only way to go. The unit is compact, so it takes up little space on the desktop. The included adapter card makes downloading a breeze. I highly recommend this excellent Viking product.
