Review: The software installed with no problems. I plugged it in and turned the computer back on and I was in business. I downloaded 15 pictures in less than 15 seconds. It's fast. No more waiting and no more dead camera batteries. I use WinME, and had no problems. Don't know how I lived without it. If you have a digital camera this is a must have product.

Summary: Good Value and Excellent Product
Review: I have looking for a compact flash reader for a month and doing every research I can. This 3 in one card reader (Compact Flash, Smart Media and ATA) is gem. It works like a dream. On top of that this gives you a flexibility of carrying the compact flash adaptor to use in your lap top.Great value and an excellent product!

Summary: Pretty much an essential tool
Review: I don't know how I lived without this unit. It provides very fast transfer of images, preserves the batteries in my camera, and allows me to work from within any software package without using any special software (e.g., I've never had a software issue with this, unlike the special camera softwares). A very nice feature is that this unit can handle any kind of memory (other than Sony memory sticks); many competitors can handle just one or two. BTW, this unit even works with microdrives as long as you use the type II compactflash adapter that should come with the drive. My only real complaint is that using the adapter for compactflash memory cards is a bit inconvenient as you must insert the card into the adapter and then insert the adapter into the unit - no big deal but its an extra step. This is pretty essential, especially if your memory cards exceed the low end (8-16mb). Its a great value, flexible in that it suports almost all memory types, and its reliable. You'll be pleased when you buy it.

Summary: Viking IntelliFlash USB Flash Memory Reader is excellent.
Review: This device reads Smartmedia [which is what I use it for] Compact Flash and ATA Flash Cards. One barely needs to look at the User's Guide - this USB device is so easy to set-up. On a Mac, the software install is very quick. Once complete, the next and last step is to plug the unit into a USB port on your CPU or to a powered USB hub. That's it! Once a SmartMedia card is inserted into the reader, it mounts on the desktop (Mac), just like a floppy, zip or any other storage device. This is super slick! To move the data, one simply drags and drops to a folder. But, it gets better: the data transfer is FAST! Wow! I copied a 4MB TIFF image from a SmartMedia card to a G3 in a blink of an eye. For digital cameras and other devices that use SmartMedia, this USB reader is superb - and at a nice price!

Summary: Windows 2000, PowerBook G3 , Olympus 2500L
Review: This is the first time that a piece of hardware exceeded my expectations both in function and compatibility. I downloaded the latest driver for Windows 2000 (just to be sure); it installed on my Dell Inspiron 7500 and ran beautifully. It also works as expected on my PowerBook G3. Given the variety of hardware (and software) configurations on a given machine, I'm less likely to blame the product, or vendor, for compatibility issues. I have more of a problem with Microsoft requiring new Win2K device drivers for products purchased in under 5 months. Fast, intuitive, easy to install.

Summary: Works very nicely with my iMac/Olympus camera
Review: I use the USB reader to transfer photos from my Olympus D-400 Zoom digital camera to my iMac. Before buying my iMac, I had used the FlashPath floppy adapter to get photos to my Mac G3 desktop machine. This worked OK, but it was somewhat tedious to insert the flash card into the special floppy adapter, run a special application on my Mac to download the photos, quit the application, eject the floppy - and then start working with my photos. With this USB reader, things work much more intuitively - there's no special application to deal with anymore. The flash card simply appears as another icon on my iMac desktop, and I use the normal Finder operations to copy to/from it. My only issue occurred in the initial setup. My iMac was not recognizing the flash card as a legitimate device and would just keep displaying the error message "Initialize or eject?". After a couple of emails and phone calls to customer support, I realized that I needed the "File Exchange" control panel enabled (it used to be called "PC Exchange", I believe). The FlashPath adapter specifically probibits the enabling of that control panel. After clearing that up, I've really enjoyed using this product.

Summary: Blows away serial transfers
Review: If you have a digital camera and have purchased a larger CompactFlash card, you need this product! I have a Nikon Coolpix 950 and a SanDisk 128 MB Compact Flash card and discovered that serial port downloads of digital photos from the camera to my PC were going to take FOREVER! Since I had a newer PC with a USB port and an operating system that claimed to have USB support, I thought I'd give this a try (this was my first experiment into uncharted USB waters). Let me tell you, it works great! The software installed easily into Windows 98, downloads are amazingly fast, and it hasn't crashed my system yet. True, you do have to remove your CompactFlash card from your camera when you want to download pictures, but that's easy. The time you save will more than make up for the additional step. This purchase is a no-brainer - just get it and you won't be sorry.

Review: I bought a cheap digital camera and was going crazy trying to transfer pix using serial cable. So I went and got this viking reader and it works great with my smartmedia cards and windows98. Fast as lightning.

Summary: Windows 2000 Users Beware!
Review: My Windows 2000 system became very unstable after installing the Viking card reader. I downloaded the latest Windows 2000 drivers for the device but it did not help. Windows 2000 crashed whenever I accessed the Viking card reader. The only way to recover was to press the reset button. Prior to installing the Viking card reader, my computer ran for months at a time without crashing. I boxed the card reader up and returned it to Amazon.
