Summary: Great card reader at a good price!
Review: This attractive flash card reader is a little larger than a man's wallet and includes about 3' of USB cord. Installation was simply "plug it in"! Mac OS-X 10.2.2 detected it without having to load any drivers (drivers for other OS's are included on a CD). After connecting, I inserted an 8mb MMC flash card and it downloaded the pictures into iPhoto flawlessly and quickly. I have not tried writing to the flash card from my computer.If you plan to use only one type of memory card, you may want to consider a less flexible (but smaller) reader. This won't save you much money, just desk space. I like the ability to read multiple formats since we already have three varieties of flash cards in the family. As a result, this reader fits the job neatly.

Summary: portable, plug and play, cost-effective
Review: This is a very cost-effective unit for reading multiple mediacard formats. I have used this unit in many computers and operating system and I found it very fast and portable. I bought it to read my digital camera's MMC but right now I am using it to share documents, multimedia files (mp3 and videos) and to take this files from my office to my house (I have a 256Mb card). The unit is plug and play and you don't even need the drivers with the newest operating systems. It creates 4 drive letters within your computer and you can use different memory slots at the same time. I moved files from a Compact Flash to the MMC slot once. I've had problems with this unit with only one computer, it was a friend of mine who was using an old Windows version, but besides that, the memory reader has worked perfectly.

Summary: Once you get the right drivers, it's a winner!
Review: Don't think I had any hassles setting it up for XP, but windows 98SE was a bear! The included drivers were worthless, and even crashed my computer several times. I saw another reviewer mention that this was a rebadged Sitecom product, and just as they suggested, I found the right drivers on their site: http://www.sitecom.com/index.php?prod_id=13&grp_id=3 You may have to try more than one set of drivers. The first one didn't work, but the second set worked flawlessly. One nice feature about this reader is the way it gives you a little "CF" icon for the compact flash slot, and a different icon for each of the other slots, so you don't have to keep track of which drive (f,g,h, etc) goes with which slot. Also, it runs off of my laptop's USB port, and does not need a powered USB hub (contrary to the docs) And Viking customer support is just as bad as the other reviewers have mentioned.

Summary: fast - IF I can get my compact flash card inserted
Review: I am running WinXP Pro. I plugged it in and right away I got the 4 mapped drives (one drive for each slot on the IntelliFlash). So off to a good start. Then I tried popping in a Canon Compact Flash I card. It would not go in. After some manuvering and jiggling, it went in, but the green light never went on next to the drive - and it wasn't being read.
I then tried to pop in a Viking CF card and had the same problem. After much jiggling and pushing the card in (with the Canon card because it was small and I didn't care as much if it broke) - finally the green light lit up and the pictures transferred very fast to my hard drive. So now I'm not sure if this is a faulty device - or if this is the nature of the beast for this particular product. I'm afraid if I need to continually do this, it will ruin the CF card.

Summary: Just would not work.
Review: I got this Viking reader after reading all the negative reviews here. I work on the computer industry and usually do not have problems with installing new devices like these. So even after I read the negative reviews, I figured I could make this work with the right drivers. Boy I was wrong. I first installed the drivers which came on the CD. Windows 2000 recognized all the 4 drives and showed them in Windows explorer. Now when I inserted by Compact flash card, it did not recognize the media and kept asking me to insert the disk in the drive. I tried rebooting multiple times, installing and uninstalling the drivers. No luck. I even tried the other drivers recommended by another user in his review. That didnt work either. After 2 days of meddling I gave up and shipped it back to amazon. Note: This drive also looks unusually big for a card reader. The photo is not representative of its actual size.

Summary: works as advertised
Review: i bought this unit because i currently own devices that use 3 different removable memory media and i didn't want a separate reader for each. even if you can hook a device directly to a pc, it's usually faster and easier to read and write to the memory cards through a device such as this. on a pc running Win2k Pro, i just plugged it into a free USB port and it recognized 4 removable disks- no additional drivers required.

Summary: Doesn't work with SD Cards
Review: ***This card reader is not compatible with newer SanDisk SD cards*** I got the following response from Viking Tech Support on May 17, 2004: "We have had a few customers report seeing problems with some Sandisk cards. It appears to be a compatibility issue with Sandisk's new SD cards and the reader. The new Sandisk cards read/write speeds are faster than their older cards, and this difference may be the cause of the error. Currently Engineering is looking at the problem. When we find a resolution I will send you an update."

Summary: very good Flash memory reader
Review: I got this reader from Amazon and I did not have any problems at all. I used Sandisk SD cards, Viking, Canon and Sandisk CF cards and Sony memory stick with my IntelliFlash. I would definitely recommend this reader.

Summary: Potential problems - you get what you pay for
Review: Very similar experience to that described by Jennifer Tomlinson Bohnenberger on May 5th. The Intelliflash reader installed fine on a WinXP machine; however, when the SanDisk 256MB SD card was inserted the files could not be read (corrupted!) When the card went back into the camera two of the photos had been reformatted and could not be read by the camera. Very disappointed in this reader, but then the price should have been a clue. Not worth it - stick with SanDisk or similar companies. Now let's see if Amazon will refund the purchase price.
