Summary: Good product, but...
Review: but in the wonderful world of Windows, you're going to run into compatibility issues now and then. Best to just get a Mac, on which IEEE 1394 is a standard, and is the fastest, easiest way to have serious fun with digital video, audio, web, etc. etc.

Summary: Very affordable and easy installation
Review: Dell Dimension 4500 running Windows XP with a Panasonic DV-400 camcorder. When I first plugged the card in, XP didn't see it. I ended up swapping to another slot and it immediately recognized the new hardware and installed it automatically. Was capturing video in under 20 minutes total! So far I have just used XP MovieMaker because the included software doesn't seem very intuitive.

Summary: Easy. Cheap.
Review: Dell Dimension 8200 running Windows XP. Using a Canon ZR45. Opened the case, put in the card, closed the case, plugged in the camcorder (turned on), turned on the computer and started capturing video. Easy.

Summary: worthless card - basically no tech support
Review: I bought this card with the assumption that it would be no problem. However when I installed it Windows XP detects it as a PRINTER!! I ran through the hardware wizard over and over using different drivers recommended by D-Link with no success. I emailed D-Link for help and all they could tell me was to contact Microsoft. ... What a waste!

Summary: Works Great
Review: I don't think you can find a better value. The price could easily be spent on just the cable. Using a Dell 8200 with XP, I had no problem with the installation or use.

Summary: It works, I guess....
Review: I got this in hopes of turning my PC and digital camcorder into a movie studio. It was easy enough to install I suppose, and it actually works I think because some images from my camcorder DID actually make it to the monitor. However, I was never able to do more than that with this product. I don't think there is something inherently wrong with it, but PCs, at least not highly up to date ones, are just not very compatible with Firewire. I guess I could have spent more time on this and perhaps actually accomplished something. It was just too tedious and not worth it. My brothers IMAC works brilliantly with Firewire, and I would recommend you get a Mac if you want to make movies.

Summary: DONT BUY THIS JUNK
Review: I have a new gateway machine- I bought the card from gateway and with the card installed the computer will not shut down or sleep. Initially the computer wouldn't shut down or sleep but flashing the BIOS and updating the Intel chipset drivers and changing settings in the BIOS now lets the machine be shut down. Still can't sleep though and neither will you!
D-Link has NO support and even thought this is a widespread problem with this card you will find no mentionn or help for this problem.
