Summary: Perfect....a MUST HAVE for film editors
Review: After shopping around for a Firwire card I finally found this huge deal! 3-Port USB and 2-Port Firewire for only $19.99! DO NOT pay full price for this item. Go to the used and new, there is a new one for $19.99. It takes a little longer to ship out, but this is a great deal.

This item takes about 3 secs to install with XP...all you do is put it in, and you're ready. I was up burning dvds within 5 mins.

Summary: Works Flawlessly But Make Sure You are Up to Date
Review: Another review writer mentioned overlapping IRQs - which suggests they were out of the loop when the entire computer world changed to Level Triggered IRQs. In a nutshell, current systems are designed to share IRQs, this is a critical function for any system. If you have older PCI based cards or a computer older than 4 years this is when you can see problems, as they use what are called Edge Triggered IRQs and are not shareable.

Still, installing add-in cards to your PC is not for the faint of heart or the uninformed, even with the advances in Plug and Play technologies. Get your friendly neighborhood computer genius to help if you don't feel you're savvy enough.

That being said, this card from Adaptec works flawlessly, and has some nice features designed into it. The bus mastering PCI functions work reasonably well, unlike some lower priced cards that seem to cause more lock-ups and pauses. The addition of an internal Firewire and USB connections are a great help to case modders and others who build their own systems yet still want ports on the front side of their machine so they don't have to reach around the back. Having USB and Firewire on the same card is handy, since most older systems using USB 1.1 use a riser card that can be replaced easily with the Adaptec.

A good value for a complete high-speed hot pluggable I/O solution.

Summary: Installation problematic, but great for what it is
Review: As did several of the others who have reviewed this product, I had trouble getting it to work. It allocates a bunch of IRQs and apparently didn't appreciate sharing a case with my video card. I called Adaptec support, spoke with a helpful technical support guy, and after hanging up made a relatively easy bios change that made everything work fine.

Because USB2 and Firewire cards separately cost about as much as this card and would end up taking two slots I think that if you're comfortable possibly having to troubleshoot installation problems it's well worth it.

Summary: Adaptec AUA-3121 USB 2.0/1394 does not work
Review: Bought the Adaptec AUA-3121 USB 2.0/1394 for my Dell 8200 WinXP Pro system and the Adaptec AUA-3121 USB 2.0/1394 caused nothing but problems. As soon as I plugged in a USB device into the Adaptec AUA-3121 USB 2.0/1394 my system would reboot and then Blue Screen. I ended up using a [inexpensive], USB2-only PCI card and this works just fine. But, of course, now I don't have Firewire ports. Steer clear of this Adaptec AUA-3121 USB 2.0/1394.

Summary: Great All-in-One Card
Review: Can't complain. On my Windows XP pro machine, it works perfectly. Been recently downloading camcorder tapes using the firewire port.

One confusing feature is that the USB is supposed to be downward compatible to the old 1.1 standard. When I put in my trusty USB cable, my machines asks me to insert the device's driver. What gives. nonetheless, it's a minor nuisance, but still runs well, despit this quik.

A great plus is that it also comes with afirewire cord--that's [$$$] right there! A true "bargain" card.

Summary: Does everything you ask
Review: Easy to install, comes with a neat little USB utility, and provides painless upgrade to USB 2.0 and Firewire. Doesn't do anything glamorously, just well.

Summary: Info Dual CPU problem
Review: For those 2 guys having problem with this card, I wanna know your config. So far I'm thinking of buying this for my Dual AMD board which happen to have 1.1 USB and I want USB 2 for my HDD base mp3 player. I just hope this is not your config, it could be a dual or multi-processor intel board.

Summary: Adaptec AUA-3121
Review: I am running Windows 2K Pro. I bought the Adaptec AUA-3121 USB 2.0/1394 Combo Card. I openned the box. I read the instructions. I followed the instructions. Everything works perfectly. Went smooth as silk.

Also note that I have Belkin USB 4 port expander. Since installing/using the expander my Logitech Quick Cam has "complained" of insufficient bandwith. I have since moved it to one of the USB 2 ports on the Adaptec card. I now have a happy Logitech camera also.

I rate this card as first class. READ THE README file and installation instrcutions!

Summary: Works great
Review: I bought this Adaptec AUA-3020 for use in my Dell Dimension 8200 (P4 2Ghz) with Windows XP Pro SP1. My computer originally doesnot have firewire and USB2.0 (it has 4 USB1 though). All 5 PCI slots were full with VGA, Ethernet, Sound, Promise Ultra ATA133 (for my additional HDs), and Firewire from Pinnaclesys. I was a little skeptical to use this product when I read other reviewers that has the same system (tony8gj from Redmond, WA). The only difference is he bought 3121 with internal USB and firewire while I bought 3020 without the internal ones. After I received the package, I read the instruction which is fairly easy and straightforward. I turn off the computer and all cables, took off my Pinnaclesys firewire and replace with this Adaptec 3020. Put all the cables back to where they were, (I didnot plug anything yet to the new Adaptec) and start the comp. Windows XP shows "Found new hardware" and rearrange them (I rearranged my USB1.1). Then I see that XP found this Adaptec but it says Texas Instrument for the firewire host controller (I guess the chip made by TI), and so on. It went smooth. Then I put the USB/firewire cables to this new Adaptec ports. All my devices were recognized fast and ready to use. I tested all my devices and they are all fine. Just make sure, before installing this and any other hardware, to check and update your flash BIOS from your computer manufacturer and also your Windows operating system from windowsupdate.com. Five big stars!!

Summary: Problem With Old Dells
Review: I bought this b/c I just purchased an iPod. I have a Dell Dimension XPS T500 (yr 2000 w/XP) that only has USB 1 ports.
After about a day of trying to install, the Dell would not recognize this card. I called Dell and was told motherboard does not accept USB 2/Firewire cards. Totally false.
I purchased a seperate USB2 card and Firewire and they both run with no problems.
This card probably works with new computers, but be careful if you have an older model.
