Rating: Summary: Pay more money and get something better Review: I bought this hoping I'd be able to watch and record TV. This card has several bugs. One, the TV Listings are not accurate and I found myslef using Yahoo TV listings because they were always correct and I didn't want to miss any shows. the "recording" part was easy and the video looked OK but not great. However, once in a while the audio "pops" and the video "skips". Moreover, when I'm watching "TV", the audio frequently goes out of sync with the audio. I did a google search and found many other people had the same problem. I updated all of the drivers and changed the sound card and nothing worked. Strangely, if the audio is out of sync and I press the "record" button, all recorded video is IN-sync. Anyway, don't buy it. Get something more expesive and save yourself a hassle.
Rating: Summary: Great--Wonderful!! Review: I cant think of one bad thing to say about this. It is so wonderful. I can watch TV while I work. I dont know what all the problems were with people running XP. IM running XP and All of the drivers were on the CD, and it whent extreamly smoothly!
Rating: Summary: Very useful product Review: I had a Windows XP machine and I was expecting some problems during installation. But it turned out to be smooth - I downloaded the drivers from ATI's website and then installed the software with the CD in the box. I got some warnings from XP that the product hasn't passed XP compatibility checks, which can be ignored.I hooked up my cable and VCR to the tuner card and now I can watch both in my PC. The video quality is as good as a TV. The only problem is that the box doesn't come with the necessary audio and video cables. I had to go to Circuit City twice to get the right ones.
Rating: Summary: THE DAZZLE KILLER!!! Review: I have been using the DAZZLE for over a year, and I thought that it was the best I could get for the money. WRONG! This cost me 1/3 as much and works 1000 times better! Turning your old VHS tapes into DVD's is a snap, and with no loss of quality! Nice product!
Rating: Summary: Just like the guy from SanFran said Review: I have had exactly the same experience as previously reported by the reviewer in SanFrancisco. Running 98SE and have had lots of support from ATI (I have cheap LD to Canada)to no avail. I get exactly the same freezes as described. The hardware seems to be ok because I can obtain video captures through the TV Wonder using ULead's DVD Movie Factory. But that ATI software...!!!!! And I have been coached by ATI on installing everything in every way over and over. If you're thinking of buying...fuhgetaboudit!!
Rating: Summary: decent video capture, but change the software Review: I have only used this card for video capture, not as a VCR. The software, as of version 7.1, does not allow you to record with a horizontal resolution better than 240. Also, on my Windows XP machine, the software crashes not infrequently, and the drivers often make Windows blue screen. You might want to consider compressing the videos you make using the DivX codec. If you want to record with a horizontal resolution better than 240 (like 640x480), don't forget to run a de-interlace filter. Now you have a perfectly serviceable video capture card for cheap. Unfortunately, I can't really say how good the quality is, as all the stuff I have captured was rather poor quality to begin with, but it seems decent enough.
Rating: Summary: Works great. Setup a little difficult. Review: I just got this card from the local Best Buy and I have to admit it is an absolute miracle once you get it to work. I have DirecTV and I wanted a TV tuner so I can watch basketball while I work on the computer or browse the net. Words of Caution: The TV tuner has only 125 channels and works only with an antenna or you local cable. The TV tuner does NOT work with satellite TV (or digital TV). So I ended up having to buy an additional satellite receiver and then hook up the receiver to the card. The downside to this is that you can't use all of the video scheduling and recording capabilities of the card. The card does give you some very nice TIVO functionalities, but again you can only use them on your local cable or antenna. Once you go through a receiver, you have to select the channels via the receiver while the ATI-TV tuner stays in Channel 3. Setup: Setup was a little dificult. I have a Vaio with 866 Pentium III, with Intel Graphics Card, running Windows 2000. First you have to upgrade your Windows 2000 to DirecX 8.0 (the one that comes with Windows 2000 is DirecX 7.1). You do that by visiting a special site provided by Microsoft. You download the new upgrade and then install it. I believe if you don't upgrade to DirecX 8.0, you might experience a ton of problems (by the way WinXP comes with DirecX 8.0 installed). Then you have to download the Windows 2000 drivers and TV tuner software from the ATI site, because the CD in the box provides you with drivers for the Win 98 operating system and prior. And then you have to go through the Plug-n-Play wizards and install 4 different ATI drivers. And then you are ready to go. In Action: Once you get setup the card is fabulous. The picture is great. Especially in the smaller views. The running of the tv picture doesn't interfere with any of your other computer activities. Basically, the cable TV signal goes through the card and onto your monitor like a TV - it doesn't require any system resources at all which is key. You get to go about your business as if you don't have a little TV screen in the lower right hand corner. You can open up a ton of applications and there is no deterioriation in performance. The interface (ATI Media Center) has kind of outdated graphic look and I wish I could put a different skin and I am not sure ATI provides that. You can also expand to full screen view. Just remember to look from far away as you would with a TV. If you look from close up, the picture is grainy. But if you look from say 4 or 5 feet you won't notice a difference. In fact, the picture might be superior to that of your TV. So right now, I am really loving this card. I can watch TV while I work or if my roomate has taken the TV in the living room, I can watch TV in my room and avoid any stupid little confilcts. It truly has made my life a notch easier. I definitely recommend it to anyone who will be able to overcome the initial setup hassles.
Rating: Summary: Great Product, Especially for the Price Review: I love this product even though installation gave me a bit of trouble (mainly because the card wasn't in all the way hehehe.) The quality is decent on this card. Especially in real time though it's definitely not as good as a TV (if that's what you wanted, they have those here too.) Lot's of other cool features add to the benefit of this product and you can't go wrong for $$$. Fully Recommended P.S. Make sure you have a relatively speedy machine. Dropped frames killed my idea to record to AVI though MPEG was much better. Dropped Frames + AVI = Totally Choppy Picture
Rating: Summary: Ati tv wonder ve Review: I never used the product for tv, just for mpeg recording. The speed and quality are good, not quite dvd, but close. I fully recommend this product especially for dvd and home video backup (videocd).
Rating: Summary: If this is an example of a good product Review: I'd really hate to see ATI's bad products. This equipment doesn't even deserve the 1 star I gave it! It is suppose to work with XP - after you download all kinds of patches and drivers that should have been on the installation CD. The system check is, in a word, bogus. ATI support told me to ignore it because its often wrong. I had no sound, the picture was grainy and black and white. ATI wont take it back even though it will not work! I uninstalled the software and took out the card, packaged it all up and, one way or another, ATI will be getting their product back with a great loud razzberry! Go with Dazzle or Hauppauge. Stay well clear of ATI and its products!
