Summary: Fast Card - But Poor Stability
Review: I have a amd athlon xp 2100+, 8x agp capable motherboard, 300 watt power supply, a battery bacup, 512mb ddr 300 ram and Windows XP Pro. Before getting this card, I had a NVidia GeForce 3, which although not the fastest card, it was at least STABLE, not a single crash. With the ATI 9700, I have had nothing but problems, especially with UT2K3 and Morrowind. There are two types of crashes that occur frequently:
1 - the game just crashes and exits back to the Desktop.
OR
2 - the system reboots in the middle of a game.
I have the latest drivers, but I suspect in this case that the card is overheating. I will acknowledge however, that the card is by far the fastest I ever seen, but I would never sacrifice stability for performance.

Summary: ill be honest
Review: I have a amd athlon xp 2100, 8x agp capable motherboard, 400 watt power supply, 256mb ddr 300 ram. I got enough to make this card run great, the only problem is the my card won't run at all.. I was able to play gta 3 once at ultra high resolutions, and it ran sooo sweet. But that was only once. I talked to ati, and they told me to do a few things, make it work better. Nothing worked, so i sent it to them, they sent me a new one back. Still didn't work, it would freeze constantly just trying to start a game in unreal tournament 2k3, max payne, nhl 2003, gta3, and the list goes on. I am extremely dissappointed by the capability issues that it had. I paid 350 bucks for this card, and i haven't been able to enjoy it yet(I've had it for 6 monthes). I'm sticking to nvidia from now on. Do research before you buy any card this price.

Summary: ATI -Vs- Nvidia
Review: I have a model made by PowerColor and love it. I picked mine up from another etailer for less than here. I have not had one problem. All of the games I have thrown at it run flawlessly at 11x8 or 12X10. I briefly loaded a friend's copy of Halo to see how that system slugger ran on my machine and it ran fine. if you can find one, I'd get it. They have been phased out and are no longer produced. Priced in between the 9600 line and 9800 line. If you can find a 9500 pro, even better as it is basically a tuned down 9700 pro. I can't wait to try out some real dx9 games. Come on Half-Life 2.

My specs:
p4 2.4ghz
soyo dragon ultra mobo
1 gig ram
160 gig raid 1 (stripped)
9700 pro

Summary: Graphic Guru
Review: I have recently purchased this card, and all i have to say is that its amazing. It truely is faster than the Geforce 4 and you can set higher resolutions without losing really any speed. Plus it is geared for future applications, for instance when Direct X 9 comes out and when AGP 8x starts becoming standard this card will be there and be up to date. I have nothing but good things to say about ATI and especially the RADEON 9700 PRO (128mb). If you have the money, and you like crisp graphics yet still want smooth gameplay and refresh rates, then this is the card you have been looking for.

-update

I have had this card since the day it came out. I have tersted this card to the limits, it has never crashed or failed in any sense. This card is NOT for you if you dont know jack about your systems, say if you are looking to upgrade an e-machine, or a compaq, or anything whuch you hardly know what is inside. This card is for high end gamers or people who need the intense speed. This means you will have to know the cpability of your system. I have upgrade my computer with different configs 6 times with this same card, never a failure. If you try to upgrade your e-machine or other manufacturers comp you will most likely be putting incompatable compents together.

In conclusion, if you have a custom built computer (you built it or st least you know what the heck your specifications are)
Then this card is for you

If you are trying to upgrade a machine which is deficient in other areas say an e-machine or other "Name Brand computer" then you will most likely have problems.

(Of course name brand excludes "Alienware" because their products they build with are always current)

After all this time I still give this card a 5 out of 5
Still runs great and still rocks the compitition !!

Summary: super bargain
Review: I just brought this card from ebay, and I have to say, it is the best. my current rig is xp2700 with 768mb of ram. it is a day/night difference in 3d mark. my old card is a geforce 3, score 1000 with this one it is 5000.

also the tech demos on ati's website are simply smazing.
I did not encounter any instability issue or driver issue, I play warcraft 3 for the most part.

now it is getting cheap, buy it before it is gone.

Summary: Great Product - But Unacceptable Replacement Policy.
Review: I purchased the 9700 Pro in January 2003 and it worked great for a couple of months. Then Morrowind: Elder Scrolls III began having long black diagonal lines, wildly flucuating frame rates, and other graphics distortion/corruption. So I ran the inevitable gamut of driver updates, and also purchased 3DMark to test the graphics (which showed the same problem in all the game tests). Nothing solved the problem except enabling "Force software vertex shaders" in 3DMark.

It's not a documented problem, and it really looks like the board. ATI is in process of giving me an RMA, but here's why I really can't recommend ATI, even though I'm sure their competitors are no better:

They have no preship repair/exchange, meaning they won't send a replacement before you send back the defective unit. Personally, I'd gladly have them charge a credit card to get a replacement, and then credit it back when they received the defective one. Now, however, I either have to be down for the duration, or buy a backup card. Since only Morrowind is affected, I can't give up my system. I'll have to spend money on another card. Now do I buy another high-end card or a low-end? Either way, it will not be an ATI card...

Summary: Much better than geForce
Review: I purchased this card recently, after some tweaking and looking
for updated drivers most of the problems went away. Quite a few
users have reported having problems such frequent frame
skip/delay in games such as NOLF2.

The good side: This card has quite a few advantages over its arch rival - geforce 4 Ti. For one, its the only card at the moment to support full DX 9 specification. It is also more powerfull, ATI put 2x of everything in this (that is compared to nVidia).

The bad side: there are still game issues in Windows XP, so before purchasing - give ATI another couple of months to come
out with stable drivers that do not crash your system.
