Rating: Summary: high-end performance with a modest investment Review: - The card brings its own software including a DVD player, plus audio and video applications for all versions of Windows including 2000 and XP. While the bundled software is not top-notch, it sure brings an immediate way to test your hardware. Performance-wise, this card passed all tests with flying colors. I tested it successfully with Lucas Arts'StarWars Star Fighter, Microsoft's Dungeon Siege, and some emulation applications that required 3d accelerators. MPEG playback improved notably using Windows Media player. Also, overall Windows navigation is now much smoother and with fewer delays, especially when using my clogged Start Menu. DVD playback works beautifully and with ATI's integrated decoder I am in no need to have my old Creative decoder card. In my case, due to technical issues, I had to perform some degree of tweaking and updating. The included user guide is a plain generic installation manual that is not specific to your card model, so if you happen to have a problem, you will not find the answer there; the manual assumes that everything goes fine and dandy from the get go. On the other hand, their web site was very helpful, and I was able to download the latest software and resolve all my issues. Overall, I'm very impressed with this video card. It has given my two-year "old" PC a nice "face-lift" and maybe an additional couple of years of 3d gaming. I recommend it to anyone who owns an older motherboard without an AGP slot. It gives a low-end system a high-end performance increase without investing big bucks. Good purchase.
Rating: Summary: Exellent Upgrade for non-AGP/ integrated AGP users Review: ...There is only one place that you can get really caught in with XP and integrated graphics: the manual for the video card states that before you physically install the card, uninstall the old drivers. After you put in the Radeon 7000, you will then install the drivers. Well, XP will automatically install the old drivers for the integrated card, and you can do s**t about that, so when you are done with installing the new drivers, it will ask if you want to restart the computer now or later. Do LATER. Then re-uninstall the old drivers and DISABLE the old card. Now restart and you're set.
Rating: Summary: Good Performance for Good Price Review: First off if you have an AGP slot (included on most newer PCs) you should buy the AGP version of this card. This card provides good performance and also is rather affordable. It has a good amount of memory, 64 MB of double data rate ram, to handle complex 3D games and graphics along with improvement to video (dvd, mpeg). However this card does not feature T & L (chipping and lighting) found on higher end cards. But for upgrading from something like an onboard video controller the Radeon 7000 is a good choice. If you are running Windows XP be sure to download the latest drivers from the ATI web site for more functionality.
Rating: Summary: Ah HA HA HA Review: For All Those Peeps Who Say DONT BUY THIS FOR PAVILION COMPUTERS I SAY, "I FART IN YOUR GENERAL DIRECTION", It Works Wonderfully in my pavilion.
Rating: Summary: Good card Review: I got this card for christmas last year and im very happy with it. I play Half-Life and mods for it and they all run very good. This card is cheap and well worth it. If you want to upgrade a older 16mb card i would get this.
Rating: Summary: Great for the price Review: I have a Dell 2300 and installed it myself. If you have a built in on-board video card (intel graphics card) you have to disable it and uninstall the driver to get it to work. People who did not like the Radeon 7000, did not know how to install it. Here is the down and dirty for the novice computer users. BEFORE you do this next step, install the software that come with the Radeon 7000. Then you are ready to uninstall the old graphics card & driver. Click Start: Click Contol panel, then System Properties, then click on hardware. You will see "driver signing" and "device manager". Uninstall the intel driver & disable the Install graphics chip in these places. Then reboot your computer and plug your monitor into your new card. The Graphics are great...
Rating: Summary: Inadequate on a PIII 1ghz 256 SDram Dell Review: I recently purchased the Radeon 7000 PCI video card for my Dell Dimension L1000R. My Dell, being the pile of dung it is, came with a 4 MB onboard video card. Needless to say, this hardly sufficed with any of my games. As a friend put it, onboard video, at this point in time, is only sufficient if you're "looking at spreadsheets all day." The problem with onboard video must be, obviously, that most people DO NOT look at spreadsheets all day. Some people actually run graphical applications, and the onboard video does not have enough power for them. I blame it on the economics of the situation: onboard video costs less than a real video card. Now, when I took this item home, installation was fairly easy. I eagerly ran into my current favorite game, Counterstrike (one of the few my previous "video card" could run) to test out the graphical chops of the Radeon 7000. I ran the game in Open GL, at 1024x768 resolution. I still experienced slowdown with smoke grenades and a few other things, though it was admittedly better. My second test was with a demo for Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. This game ran fair, and only fair, at a resolution of 640x480 with all textures and colors at medium values. Any higher resolution, or higher color/texture quality ensured an awful frame rate. I've come to the conclusion then, that the Radeon 7000 PCI video card isn't so bad. The PCI format is just not the desired medium for video cards.
Rating: Summary: Wow! What an upgrade! Review: I upgraded to this card from an 8mb Savage card and wow! What a difference! Installation went very smooth and with no problems. I noticed the difference in video quality right away. Smoother effects in my games and online animation. I am very happy and impressed with this card. Especially with the price. Thank you ATI for a great product.
Rating: Summary: Doesn't work with HP Pavilion 8660c Review: If you have a HP Pavilion 8660c, do not buy this item. Even after help from HP tech support, they could not make it work. The problem is that the motherboard has onboard graphics that cannot be disabled in the BIOS. The Radeon card will not be picked up by the PC after you put it in. ATI support told me on the phone to buy another graphic card!
Rating: Summary: HP Pavilion 7940 + This card = up the creek Review: O.K. Here is the deal: if you go to the ATI website and do some digging you will find a nasty little lump of coal that reads as follows: "Systems with onboard VGA controllers may hang during boot of RADEON 7000 graphics adapter is installed...A number of systems are currently known to exhibit this issue, including: hp Pavilion xe783, HP Pavilion 7940, eMachines TI 140, eMachines TI 150... Now if you do not believe that then go to virtually any tech support group like yahoo or hp or anywhere, and type radeon 7000. Boom there are the huddled masses crying to be free. If you have one of the above machines DO NOT BUY THIS CARD unless you just want to practice selling things on ebay or half.com or Amazon or anywhere else you can off-load this albatross. The fault lies with HP and their crazy machines I am sure but don't expect any help from them or ATI. You are [toasted] if you have one of those machines and this card and friends, there is no escape. If you really want this card and have one of those machines listed, its more fun to take out[money amount]from your wallet and set it on fire, at least that way you can enjoy the pyrotechnics, which is more color display than you will get with this thing on one of the above machines. Here endeth the sermon, you have been warned!!
