Summary: Trash, like all Gravis pads.
Review: D-pad registers up and down and that's it. CD in the box won't run on winxp, you have to download a different version of their clunky software so you can map buttons to keyboard keys, which won't work in-game anyway. Returning it tomorrow.

Summary: 2 strikes not going for a third
Review: Did not work out of the box. One joystick was stuck permanently moving left. Returned and second one survived a few months before it quit working.

Summary: Remember to check out the gravis control applet.
Review: Great Pad, but Let me give some tech advice so that you can go into using this product without any problems.

"I bought this and plugged it in immediatly and tried to play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (tm) with it, and the d-pad wouldn't function correctly. Its great for racing games and stuff like that, but if you want to use the d-pad, get a different controller with a d-pad that waorks."

So here is some adviece for all who want to use this product but are worried about not having full use of the buttons on the gamepad:

what was failed to be realized is that if you want the d-pad to function as a d-pad control, you must go access the gravis experience applet and change the axis on the gamepad to x-y. It will of course disable the left analog stick. That way he can use the gamepad as he sees fit, if he wants to use the analog, he just needs to go back in and reset the controls. You want to know how to use other programing features just read the applets built in help file it is really easy to use.

You will find all sorts of other fun programmibility in the gravis applet to let you set different types of forcefeedback to different buttons, This is good for games without feedback capabilities, you can have sensations when playing the older games. I think this is wonderful gamepad, and is a perfect upgrade over the classic, gravis gamepad pro, for those of you wanting basically a playstation dualshock controller. Make sure to experiment with the gravis applet and you will be happy about the ease of programability that gravis is known for.

The only reason I give this review 4 stars, is because the fact that setting a control to the same setting axis as an another, disables other control. I personally would like control of both gamepads to be able to switch to which ever feels better on the game I'm working on. But that is a minor quelm since I am happy with the analog controls for most games.

I must also warn that if you are use to running a gravis gamepad pro, that this joystick is a whole lot bigger and chunkier. You will have to get accustomed to the wierd new feel of it, but overall shape is comefortable. The uncommon position of the analog sticks turns out to be far more cofortable and natural than the comparable Console system analog sticks.

I hope you find my review useful, in make your choice about this wonderful purchase. Most of all have fun.

Summary: Complete Garbage...
Review: I bought this before reading the reviews, which is unlike me. Once I saw the experiences the other buyers had had, I was nervous, but convinced myself that it would be fine. I run XP, so I downloaded the software from the Gravis site, installed everything, and tried a game. The D pad wouldn't work, despite the fact that I had downloaded the XP software. If this had been the only problem, I would have figured that I had just done something wrong, but the joysticks were awful! Half the time, I would move the joystick up, to move forward, and when I released it my character kept going forward. Not great when you're standing on the edge of a cliff. I found it impossible to get any kind of control over my game characters, not nearly enough to even consider being able to use the gamepad for games.

Another thing about the gamepad is that, although I tried it in the store, to get a feel for it, I decided rather quickly that, regardless of how it worked, it just wasn't right for my small hands (I'm female, and have exceptionally small hands). I can't call this a complaint, just a matter of personal preference.

When I viewed the "Read Me" file on this thing, and came to the section about "Known Bugs", I about had a heart attack at all of the problems this thing is "known" to have! After every single bug listed, they gave a completely lame, unsatisfactory "solution". For instance, one bug said that games often take a moment to respond to input from the controller. Their solution? "Please wait a moment after each button click, to give the game time to respond". Erm, sure; I'll just politely ask 200 Orcs to stop attacking me while Aragorn takes a moment to respond, no problem.

I'm not by any means an extremely serious gamer with unrealistically high expectations for my equipment; I just like to play sometimes, and want moderately sufficient results. This controller came nowhere near that, and I'll be returning it tomorrow morning, after only owning it for about 18 hours.

Summary: Get something else.
Review: I bought this thing like 4 months ago and had nothing but problems with it, I ended up buying it, then returning it because the d-pad was inoperable, pressing up caused the directional control to go up and left, same with pressing left (and before you blame my fat fingers, I even used a straight pin to press the directional control straight up using the topmost right corner of the up direction and it still went left). the analog controls are horribly inaccurate and are nearly impossible to center unless you turn the deadband (or nullzone as they call it) all the way up to the maximum value. And lastly, the entire device recently just went kaput, and gravis doesn't know what to tell me besides "we'll give you a new one if your warrantee hasn't expired", too bad I discarded the box, eh? I dunno about you, but I'm not buying a new one of these every 4 months at 40 bucks a pop (even 20 bucks is too much). get a thrustmaster or something that works.

Summary: It is a VERY good pad!
Review: I cannot really understand why one of the previous reviewers had those problems. With the Gamepad comes an installation program (Version 4.3a) and after installing you have a whole bunch of options to choose from to setup your controller. Once you figured out how to set it up right (very good manual), the controller works flawlessly in all my games without any problems. Both analog and digital controls are usable. The buttons are good to reach and the handling is better than every other controller i had before. I changed from a MS Sidewinder Pro Gamepad to this one because my thumbs hurt after only a couple of minutes playing with the MS Product. This is much better. Very ergonomic! I cannot give 5 stars though, because the "Aftershock" feature is not impressive, but i really couldn't care less about this.

Summary: better than most...
Review: I got the Eliminator and returned it the next day...the directional pad was horrid...on the Eliminator Aftershock, however, the D Pad worked very well for platforming games and is decent for fighting games...the only real problem I have with the controller is the locationof the four buttons...they're too close to the center, and often when I'd attempt to hit the top two (buttons 3 and 4), I'd overreach and hit the precision button.

I'm running OSX.2 (jaguar) and using this for emulation purposes...

Summary: A great controller, IF you have have big hands!
Review: I'm a fully grown adult male and I have small hands. While I can reach every button, I cannot reach the four face buttons without streaching my hand until it cramps, not good at all. If these buttons where placed close to the edge, iit'd be perfect. If possible, try before you buy.

As long as you download the latest software at Gravis.com, one should zero problems with it.

Other then the size problem, it's an very comfortable game pad.
