Summary: Don't bother...
Review: I just bought it, and I'm taking it back. It worked for about 15 seconds and hasn't worked since...cheap junk.

Summary: Software allows you to progam controller for ANY pc game!
Review: I just got my controller so I cant really talk about durability but as far as being able to program the controller with the logitech software it is great! It took me about an half hour to tweak the controller to perfection for Doom 3. Yes, I play Doom 3 with a analog controller! You can tweak the speed of every part of the controller and at first you put it as fast as it can go but thats TOO FAST! This controller is precise and can be used with ANY game as long you use the software included. Now, instead of using the keyboard and mouse I can play Doom 3 and Half Life 2 like a console game. If you want to use a console controller for 1st person shooters on the PC get this!

Summary: This product REALLY doesn't work...
Review: I read the other reviews and thought they must have been unlucky. So I went out to buy the Logitech Dual Action and it was a great gamepad for about 3 weeks until the left stick started acting weird. I'm playing a lot of Madden NFL 2004 and after every snap my QB moves now to the left even without touching the pad. It sucks and makes this product useless. I deserve it though because I didn't listen to the other reviewers. My advice: DON'T BUY IT!

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I was used to the XBOX controller, and bought this for my PC. It is uncomfortable to hold, and a strain on my hands to operate the buttons for any extended period of time. They need to examine the xbox controller a little more closely and learn from it. The left joystick is very much of a strain on my thumb to use. I am disappointed.

Summary: Soft and Imprecise
Review: I'm a child of the 80s. In a fit of nostalgia, I downloaded emulators for the NES, SNES, and Genesis. I use an employer-provided laptop for all of my personal computing needs; I've never needed to get my own PC. Because of that, I'm stuck with USB controllers; the laptop has no gaming port.

I was looking for a gamepad that would help me recapture that high-school gaming experience. I've played the PS and PS2 before, and I liked the format; I also figured it would allow me to play the NES, SNES, and Genesis games as well. I did some research online, and I couldn't find a clear winner. I came to the conclusion that all PC USB gamepads were basically equal. I picked up the Logitech Dual Action for me and the Nyko AirFlow for my girlfriend.

Man, was I wrong. The Logitech Dual Action is HORRIBLE! I'm used to using the D-pad; I never could use a joystick. The D-pad on this controller sucks. Maybe it's me; the NES controller was always firm and very forgiving of imprecise button presses. This thing picks up and magnifies every imperfection. Because I'm an NES child, I press hard on the controller. The D-pad simply yields too easily.

In contrast, the Nyko was easy to use. The buttons seemed to respond properly to my touch. I've only had these controllers for two days, so I can't speak for durability, but the Nyko seems to work well.

A note on emulator compatability: FCE Ultra (for NES) works fine with both controllers. Snes9x (for SNES) is awkward with the Logitech Dual Action; sometimes it doesn't respond to the D-pad, especially when there's a lot of simultaneous button pressing going on. Gens (for Genesis) won't even register the D-pad. Maybe I need new emulators, or it could be an incompatibility with USB gamepad signals. In either case, the gaming experience with all 3 emulators is less than ideal with both controllers.

I'm going to continue the search. I might go with one of those console controller to USB adapters.

Summary: Flawed Control Plagued by Calibration Issues
Review: I've gone through two of these, shipping off #2 to logitech for them to replace again. The issue is that after about 2 months this controller will start to have a calibration drift, where if you play with it for a steady time period, the calibration will go off center and you have to unplug it and plug it back in again. The time it takes for this drift to occur seems to get less and less as time goes on. The first controller I had, they told me this was a known issue and had already been fixed in firmware. They then sent me a replacement that did the same thing, only less pronounced. Even though this is only $20, it's not worth the hassle. Just get a USB adapter for a PS2 or PS1 controller.

Summary: same problems as everyone else
Review: I've had the same problems as everyone else. For about a month, it was the best PC gamepad I've had. Then the left stick started drifting, and then started going in one direction only, and then stopped working. Try playing FIFA 2005 when your players only run and kick to their right. Plugging and unplugging seriously only corrects the problem for about a minute before the same old signs start popping up. Save your $20.

Summary: An excellent gamepad for my needs.
Review: I've owned one of these for a while now, and it's the best PC gamepad I've used. For console controllers, the PS2 gamepad has always been my favorite by far, so the nearly identical layout of the Logitech Dual Action is perfect. I've found it to be an excellent controller for new and old games alike. I personally use it on various racing games, Sonic Adventure DX, Madden NFL 2005 (which supports it out of the box), and some other assorted things. My only complaints are that it doesn't have force feedback (doesn't bother me much) and that it's a little too easy to press the wrong direction on the D-pad, compared to something like the excellent PS2 D-pad. (that's usually not a problem for most games I use it with, though) Other than that, I'm very pleased with it.

By the way, just prior to posting this I've been reading many of the other reviews already here, and I have to say, I'm pretty surprised. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones, but I've had it since March 2004, and I have yet to have any problems with it. (no calibration trouble, no problems with the left stick, no needing to unplug and replug, etc.)

Summary: Could have been a great gamepad...
Review: I've owned two of these gamepads and both turned out to be defective and unreliable. The first one suffered from the common left analog stick problem maybe three months after buying it. My second one suddenly stopped being recognized by Windows XP and kept showing up as an unknown USB device (even after installing and reinstalling drivers & software). Once again, after about three or four months of VERY light usage.

The layout of the gamepad was near perfect for my tastes, and as others have mentioned, it emulated a PS2 controller very well. In today's market, many gamepads look more like toy spaceships than something you would actually control a game with, and this one appeared to focus more on functionality and comfort. Unfortunately, everything that is great about this gamepad is completely negated by it's horrible reliability.

I gave this model a second chance and was burnt a second time. I won't be buying a third. It could have been a great gamepad, but unfortunately Logitech really messed up on the quality control. There are people who haven't had problems claiming that it's a fantastic gamepad, and they're right. However, the greatness of the gamepad disappears as soon as things start breaking, and this appears to happen to most people that buy one. If you've got the money to waste, you won't find a closer match to a PS2 controller. However, it is almost guaranteed that you will have problems somewhere down the road.

Summary: Don't buy this controller
Review: It didn't take two weeks for this controller to lose control of the left analog pad, actually, it was more like 2 days.

I bought this gamepad because it said that it was compatible with FIFA 2004 -- well, when it is working, it is just great, but many times, it loses control DURING a match.

I'm going to buy a different company's controller this week.
