Rating: Summary: Best Deal Around Review: I don't normally write reviews for products, but this is too good of a deal not to comment on. You can't find a better deal around on an mp3 jukebox. A friend of mine recently spent more than double on a 20 Gig IPOD. Now, granted, it does look a lot cooler, but come on... This jukebox is simple to use and comes with a full version of Music Match Plus - all for $130 after rebates!! You can't beat that price anywhere. If you've got money to burn, go ahead and buy the IPOD. But if you can find a better way to spend the money you'll save, get the Archos.
Rating: Summary: Best value, solid piece of equipment... Review: I was skeptical after reading some of the reviews. Let me tell you, it works perfectly. For the price, how could you beat it? If you want an I-POD, your a fool. Go ahead and pay $300 more because this baby does the same thing. I have windows XP, no problems connecting. You can walk or jog with it, treat it like any other piece of electronics. Some people complain about the file structure, all I can say is learn how to use Music Match's program. You have to arrange the ID3 tags so the track number is first, then the song, so albums will play in order. Use MM to create large playlists, then select shuffle on the player, and then play a random mix for an unlimited number of hours. You have to be creative. The only thing I am angry about, is that the device is now $20 cheaper...I mailed amazon, i should get a refund for $20...
Rating: Summary: Good product, but bad live recording Review: I just got mine yesterday, and everything works fine. I am very satisfied with its price and its functionality. However, the recording sound from its built-in Microphone is terrible. I desperately would like to see improvement on its built-in Mic because I do a lot of leture/live recordings.
Rating: Summary: Great Value and Sound Review: I got mine a few days ago. So far no problems. Installed Rockbox and really like the settings available--and after I flashed it into ROM it boots in about three seconds. I'm using 320 bit encoding to get the best sound (it's only a tiny bit better than the max VBR setting in Music Match Jukebox--and most of the time not noticeable--but I can afford the space with the 20GB drive).Had problem with the USB connection on one of the computers I tried it on. It was a Shuttle motherboard with Celeron 1.7 and VIA chipset, running Win98 SE. It hung after I installed the drive software to it. It's working now after I installed the latest Via USB 2.0 software, even though I have to do the disconnect device routine twice to disconnect it. I checked the device manager in save mode and there were no shadow instance of any drive or USB drivers--but since it's working and it's not my main PC I'll live with it. Recording seems to work like it should--but would like to be able to adjust the listening volume when recording. Overall I'm really happy with this good sounding and easy to use gadget. Nice to be able to carry around so much music and software files. BTW, like another reviewer said, it doesn't like being moved around when the hard disk does a read. I hung mine a few times even though I wasn't evening moving much. But it did reset with powering it off and on. And the Rockbox firmware brings it back to where the music left off when I turned it off so I didn't lose my place on the playlist.
Rating: Summary: ARGGHHGHGHG! Review: The archos is okay...good price, a little on the bulky side but whatever. That is, until the battery dies on you. For some reason the batteries despite being fully charge tend to sputter out and die violently after 3 months or so. Mine just died for the second time, and I found out my parents didn't buy the warranty. So therefore-getting a job, buying an ipod. Grrrrr! Archos needs to keep up with its competitors big time. DON'T BUY ONE!
Rating: Summary: Awesome product for this price! Review: I received my Archos Jukebox yesterday, charged it, plugged in to my USB port and boom, 20gb drive appeared. The sound quality is amazing on this thing, but you may not agree with this comment if you use those cheap headphones that come with the package (garbage, throw them out right away). The first thing is to upgrade the headphones, I use Sony MDR-A12s. The browsing is very fast but going backward on songs needs improvement. If you want to skip back 3 songs and you click back 3 times, it may take 10 seconds or so, but if you use BROWSE function and just choose a song it's immediate. I was tempted to give this review 5 stars because of what you get for the money (superb quality and mass storage), iRiver 20gb jukebox costs $330 after rebates, here you get the same thing for $130, but I rate it 4 stars because of cheap headphones included with the package and little cheap look/feel of the product itself. I think if Archos should invest $50 more into this product, providing better headphones and improving look and feel a little... then they would get 5 stars!
Rating: Summary: Piece of Junk! Review: Ordered the first Archos jukebox recorder beginning of Feb 2004. It came with the Orange V2 sticker and a nice sealed box. I Attempted to charge it, yet after 14 hours it failed to complete the charge, and failed to turn on. Per Archos tech support it was defective. Amazon cheerfully replaced it with a second unit Feb 25, 2004. This one came with a white V2 sticker, and a carry case that was not in the first package. Plugged in the charger and it cycles on and off - failing to charge. Again, Archos tech support feels it is defective. This one goes back for a refund. I've had enough of Archos. Based on my experiences, and the fact you cannot replace the battery on this unit, I do not recommend this player to anyone! The quality control at Archos has become attrocious! Nobody should randomly recieve two defective units in a row!
Rating: Summary: Very nice! Review: Certainly a excellent choice. Perfectly clear sound quality, but a little heavy though. Could be smaller. The price is right.
Rating: Summary: Very good price for the value! Review: I recommend this product for anyone who wants a mp3 player with high storage capacity for a low price. Excellent sound quality as well. If you want to pay double? Get a iPod.
Rating: Summary: Awsome product but tricky to start Review: well, its awsome, but after u get the hang of it. its a little tricky to start it off for those who dont read instructions. yes, like all men i dont bother and just ram at it full steam. 1) make sure that the charger isnt in when u wanna hear music, retarded rule but w/
2)when transfering music, make sure when ur done, close the mp3 harddrive folder and do the SAFELY REMOVE mass storage thing in ur icon tray, u wont be able to safely remove if the folder isnt closed or u r running music from that folder, also the music wont show up in ur mp3 if u dont do safely remove 3)when connected to computer, have it charging, im not sure why 4)if you want it to branch off the music into catagories in the mp3 player, just put the music into folders in ur jukebox folder its all mostly just copy and paste it over, u dont have to do anything special to other stuff in there, just put in anything and it will figure it out itself, (if it can play it or is it another file) if you follow my instructions, it should be easy and these little problms from the get go are nothing compared to how much money u save ONE MORE THING, if it ever dies spontaneuosly while playing but wont turn off, hold the power button for like 15 seconds and it should turn off, then turn it back on and it will work good as new, but keep all ur songs of course
