Summary: Dont hesitate for the price....
Review: Great unit...The unit will do just about everything U need it to.Including gray scale video with firmware upgrade....
Convert albums or cassetes to MP3 format with superior sound quality..Some have said that the unit has no hold feature but holding on button while power is on puts it in hold mode..Sound quality is great but upgrade to a better set of headphones and it sounds even better...Works as a voice recorder and drag and drop HD also and has an alarm..
Unit is a little big but cant really say its ugly as others have posted..Its surely not your every day jogger but If U want a sweet unit to hold your 500 cd`s or MP3 files and a car player and home entertainment player, voice recorder for under $100 this is your best bet...I`m very pleased with mine and ROCKBOX really rocks but wont get into that....Go get EM before their gone.....

Summary: Awesome player, awesome price
Review: Loaded it up with the latest RockBox os, and it sounds simply great. With 20gig its probably more than I'll ever need for a portable mp3 player, but as a portable drive it is essential. I think I'll take this over a $400.00 20gig Ipod player.

Summary: Anyone Giving Less Than 5 Stars Is Crazy !!!!
Review: Yeah, It's a little heavy. It's got 4 AA batteries.
It's got a 20gb Laptop hard drive that you can take out
and put a 60 or 80gb drive into.
It's got USB functionality - and is a dream to transfer
files in and out of. Why - It's just like another hard
drive. Hmmm.
The Archos software (archos.mod) sort of sucks. True.
BUT - you can download Rockbox software - available for
free at their web page - and instead of a 999 song limitation
you can cruise with more than 25,000 songs. I personally
have over 3,000 songs on my Jukebox 20 - all in 128bit
sampling - and still have 1/2 the hard drive space left for
moving files from one computer to the next.
This MP3 (yeah right) player ROCKS !!!!
I use it in my car, I use it on my motorcycle, I use it on
airplanes, I use it at baseball games and I use it at work
when I don't want to hear any whinning from my co-workers!
No skips. No stutters. If you upgrade the batteries to the
1600mah you will have over 12 hours of music without a
commercial interruption. And it's all your music.
Nuff said. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Ipod sucks!

Summary: This review reflects the 20GB jukebox player.
Review: Downsides:
It is big and clunky (it's built around a slim line hard drive).
It tends to skip when I hit a bump while riding my motorcycle (go figure, it's hard drive based).
The more you play with the controls, the less the batteries last (about 3 or 4 hours).

Upsides:
USB based hard drive that I can move files and songs around home, work, friends, family, etc.
Small enough to use in my car, on my bike, on my motorcycle, on the plane, etc.
The controls are plastic and feel cheap (wobbly).

Suggestions:
Upgrade to Roxbox's firmware. Their firmware has a ton of features including the ability to change the buffer size (no more skipping when I hit a bump on my motorcycle) and better battery management for a longer playing life (just to name a few).

Upgrade the NiMH batteries (see Roxbox's web site for details). You can get up to 3 times the playing time (yes, over 24 hours) with some of the newer batteries.

Roxbox's web site is "rockbox.haxx.se"

Overall I have had mine for over two years now without a problem (knock wood). I have requested information from Archos and received timely responses but I have not dealt with their customer service department. When I purchased the player, it was $200+ and if I had to do it all over again I would.

Good luck.

Summary: Dont buy it - not worth even if priced at $100
Review: I bought the Archos 20 GB Jukebox even after reading some negative feedbacks thinking that a device cannot be so bad that it is not even worth $100 (after mail - in and Gold Box discounts).

Oh dear, I was so wrong. Day 1 the AC adapter connection in the device failed. Returned it back immediately to get refund.

Dont buy it!!!

Summary: Does not run on AA NiMH batteries as described
Review: I bought this model because it was the only 20 GB model that could just use AA batteries- which makes life much easier when travelling internationally where the sockets are not the same size and voltage as the US. The product is mislabeled with both Amazon and with Archos (it even says it takes AA NimH batteries on the box). I was disappointed, not with the performance, just the battery situation.

Summary: Instead of an iPod or RIO
Review: The Archos Jukebox is a very formidable substitute to the higher priced iPods and Rio. If you want a mp3 for working out, this is to large (2x the iPod & 4x the mini), but for the price, you get much more for your $. Was going to purchase the mini, but came across $50 rebate. Total savings vs. Mini was $105. I haven't had any problems with mine and don't need a planner or games on my mp3. Good sound quality, and great portable data storage for college or work related projects. I've got just about everything on mine. Did I mention the sound quality is great?

Summary: An Engineer's Jukebox/Hardrive at a Great Price
Review: I have used the Archos 15 GB Player/Recorder/HD since last summer. The device actually has a 20 GB HD so is essentially version 1 of this product. Although the device is not well documented, the various buttons are intuitive and easy to master.
So far I have found many uses for this amazing device: as a virtual CD player connected to my car radio with a cassete-to- CD converter; a virtual CD player connected to my home stereo receiver; an excellent method of backing up vinyl LPs to MP3 files; and as a portable USB Hard Drive that is plug-and-play with Windows XP and various Linux systems. Just 2 weeks ago I recovered a locked-up Windows XP notebook using the Knoppix Linux, by connecting the Archos to the notebook running Knoppix off a CD. The Archos came up as a Unix file system, so I was able to copy the Windows Documents directory to the Archos with cp -r ./*, then connect the Archos to a Windows system and use Windows Explorer to move the files to my server Hard Drive.
The Archos Digital Signal Processor encodes the highest quality MP3 files from vinyl (the LPs have to be in good shape), and playback is CD or better quality.
The Archos is truly an amazing device, offering great value and functionality for a very reasonable cost. Just compare the price of other 20 GB MP3 Jukeboxes, and they can't even back up LPs.

Summary: Great unit for what it does
Review: This mp3 player is really good. The difference between it and the ipod can be compared to the early PC's and the macintosh. If you like simplicity go for the apple product. If you like playing with your PC and working with DOS and bat files you will love the archos. It is that configurable.

Of course for the price, there doesn's seem to be anything out there that can beat it for the value. From the reviews here, I was half expecting to open my package and just find pieces of an mp3 player. Actually it looks nice, is smaller than you'd think from the picture. It can actually can fit in the shirt pocket of my button-downs. The quality and finish is good.

People seem to forget this is a hard-drive based product. Perhaps it is not as robust and damage-proof as the ipod, but if you search for ipod problems they also have alot of problems: batteries, etc. As long as you remember you are handling a hard-drive and handle it carefully you shouldn't have problems. As such it is probably not that suitable in situations where you will be jostling it very much. If you are going to be exercising with your mp3 player you probably should get a flash memory type unit.

The best application for this in my opinion would be in your car, jacking into a tape adapter or perhaps at your desk. The recording function also is very good as it has a built in mic. I am waiting for a powered microphone to check out the recording quality. It also works nicely as a portable hard-drive.

With the rockbox software you can fully customize your unit. Again that is back to whether or not you are comfortable dealing with this type technology.

I recommend it highly if you can use it in the applications mentioned.
