Summary: Best most reliable ever!
Review: I got my archos Jukebox w/ FM recorder 2 months ago. I have taken it everywhere including snowboarding in Valdez, it is freakin sweet, totally reliable, would never trade it for another 20gb player. I shopped around, and bought this one cause it was $130 at the time. Now I see it is up to $200. This unit is sooo versatile, the build in MP3 recorder is priceless.

Summary: U CAN TRUST ARCHOS
Review: i was very very sceptical cuz i never heard archos brand before. But for the price and the 20 gig harddrive I had to take it. Sometimes the player freezes for a few secs but it comes back

Summary: Works - if you are lucky
Review: This would be an item I would own if it would work as advertized. Worked fine for 3 hours and then just decided it not to boot up anymore! It actaully stayed on for another hour as it would not even accept a power cycle.

Also I am worried that there are so many inconsistencies in the packaging. 3 of us bought this and each seemed to have a part extra or missing!!! Starts to question their quality control.

My friend bought one and his seems to work like a champ - again it is the inconsistency that bothers me and the JB has since been returned for a refund.

My suggestion, wait for a while before going for an Archos product.

Summary: GREAT PRODUCT, GREAT PRICE!
Review: This item was in my Amazon.com "Gold Box" for around ~$155, and at the time a $50 rebate was available! So I picked this up without hesitation because of the value. After reading a few reviews of the Rockbox software upgrade (on this site), I went ahead and installed it. I must admit the operating system that came with the Archos Jukebox Recorder was not the easiest to use. The Rockbox made this MP3 player easy to use without the need to read the instructions! The sound is excellent when playing MP3s, as is the recording function. Rockbox comes with a number of games and screensavers, that makes this product much more versitile! So far I've had no problems with the battery life, the headphones that it comes with aren't the greatest either. Its worth it!

Summary: Buyer Beware!!! Good intentions but no quality control
Review: I bought this item due to the low price as compared to the iPod. When I got the unit I inserted the power adaptor..........nothing. I phoned Archos support who told me that the 6 Volt 700mA adaptor was not the right one for the Jukebox Recorder 20 V2 and that all the new Archos formats now use the Li-Ion batteries and not the NiMH.

Why, the box says the unit uses NiMH, the manual says LI-Ion and Amazon description says NiMH.

Come on Amazon at least find out a little about the product before advertising and selling it!!!!!

Anyway the Archos support told me that the Li-Ion batteries require a 5 Volt 1.6 Amp charger. I bought this direct from Archos at my own expense (plus waited the week for it to arrive).

I plugged in the charger....that unit said CHARGED instantly....thought this was funny..........left it overnight to charge..........next day DEAD!!!! Can't get any sign of life either with the charger connected or not.

I guess by looking at the Amazon reviews, that with Archos it is a bit of a lottery you either get a product with the right coponents and it works well or you end up with a total dud like I and several other people have.

I have shipped this piece of crap back to Amazon for a full refund. I am therefore going to look at the iPod.

In summary, Archos has no quality control obviously there are many faulty and incorrectly documented products being sent out. If you buy this I hope you get lucky....

Summary: The best MP3
Review: This MP3 is the best one that I have ever used. The space is amazingly great. Also the speed and every single thing including the weight. Another thing that is great is the sound.

Summary: Excellent Player
Review: I'm pretty happy with this MP3 player/hardrive. It exceeded my expectations. As long as you transfer your music via PC and develop your playlist there, you should have no problems. It's acts just like another hard drive on your PC so you can add,delete..etc using Windows Explorer. I was also surprised by the small size of the player. It can easly fit into your hands and weighs little.

Summary: Wotta deal!
Review: I read about the bad tech support so I emailed the tech support to see if they were even reading their emails. I did get a response so I decided to buy one.
I have had the Jukebox Recorder (JBR) for about two weeks and I am very impressed with the product.
First thing I did was flash the Rockbox software and I upgraded the firmware. (By the way, Archos should send the Rockbox people a monthly check for making the JBR a worthwhile unit)
Get those upgrades here. rockbox.haxx.se/

My only concerns about this product are;
The two MB buffer which means the HDD spins down every few minutes. 8MB would be better, but I don't have the tech skill to do an upgrade.
Also mine didn't come with any carrying case which means I have to be super careful whenever I take it somewhere. I can get one in a camera store though.

Bottom line, it is well worth the price, The sound and recording are excellent. I transferred my address book to a text file and I use the text reader to store my phone numbers. I haven't tried the video yet, but it is something I probably wouldn't use anyway.

Summary: great for listening and storage, so-so for recording.
Review: Just got this last week (...). It is great to be able to store basically all your music on one player (and use it as an external hard drive). And the sound is pretty good, but definitely get other headphones (the ones included really suck), with high sensitivity (with bad headphones some tracks aren't loud enough, even at the highest volume setting). The firmware included is okay with the basic functionality; haven't tried out rockbox yet, probably will soon. Recording quality isn't so great however. The built in mic is mono, and is fine for voice recording (e.g. lectures, etc.), but not high quality music. I thought line-in recording would be good (e.g. copy old tapes, LPs, etc. to mp3), but actually it isn't that great --- it is stereo, but there is noticeable noise. I'll continue to use my M-Audio Transit external soundcard for doing that kind of thing, and just use this to listen. Anyway, for the price I got it I couldn't have gotten anything better, and I'm very happy with it for storing and playing my music collection.
