Rating: Summary: Decent Review: Recept price drops make this a great buy. It's been working fine for me last 8 months, so beware of people who are here to spread false words about French products. This gizmo is not much of a looker and it a bit heavy, but you get 20gb plus recording capabilities. And you can use it as an extra hard drive, too.
Rating: Summary: I've had the JBMM 20 for a long time.... Review: This is the 20, not the 20SE, the SE has a slightly better design, so I won't go into detail about the shortcomings of the 20, which lacks the refinements. What is common between them - and what I dislike - is the battery life. It's crap and I've had a hellish time trying to find a way to extend it. If you are able to charge it every night and won't use it more than a few hours at a time then you'll probably be fine. The capacity is great, with Win2k / XP it's happily seen as another drive - you can make folders and just drag and drop into them. I use it almost exclusively for listening to audio books and generally have 10 to 20 on it at any point in time. At the time of this writing the device costs $160 (After rebate). It's worth this cost, but not worth much more.
Rating: Summary: gotta love dig. recording Review: Bought this for my son as a gift last year(Archos Jukebox recorder 20 is exact model I got). Liked it so much, I bought my own. Great for recording of-air on radio. Make weekly recodings over 5hrs long. After my sons unit recieved a lot of abuse, had no problem dealing with customer service to have it repaired. Last thing, it is great for harvesting audio off the music channels on DTV (direct digital record). Try that ipod !!!!!
Rating: Summary: Satisfactory, No Problems Review: I gave this to my girlfriend exactly a year ago as a present. It has worked without a single problem since then. She's even dropped it a few times when I was *sure* it would break but it just boots right back up. She uses iTunes on her Mac to manage its contents and playlists, through an iTunes plugin from the manufacturer's website. I use J River Media Center on the PC to manage it, where it is seen as a plain external USB hard drive without any special drivers required. It also mounts on the Mac desktop as a USB hard drive. In fact, this easy USB visibility makes it valuable as an easy way to transport large files and data between work and home machines. We also like it for the digital input/output, which lets you pump MP3s straight to the amplifier without any distortion or mucking around with playlists or fiddling with the PC. I did load the open-source "Rockbox" replacement firmware onto the device to enhance the battery life and playlist functionality. It also enhances the Recording functionality with volume meters, progress bars, and so on. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Unreliable product - difficult to contact service department Review: My son received this MP3 player for Christmas last year. Within 6 weeks the hard drive had completely crashed and you couldn't even turn the unit on. The Archos customer service department does not have an 800 number. I had to call at my expense several times, once being on hold for over 40 minutes in order to get an RMA number. They did replace the unit. However, seven months later the unit has crashed again. My son's best friend received the same model for Christmas last year also, and it also has been sent back more than once. I won't be spending any more money on Archos products.
Rating: Summary: Poster Child for Jukebox Abuse Review: I have used my Jukebox for over two years. Its main function is to store sampled sounds for my musical instrument keyboard. The secondary function is to back up important files and the quick transfer of files from one computer to another.
The Jukebox sits on my keyboard seven nights a week as I play at beach bars on an island in the Caribbean Sea. It is the harshest possible environment for electronic equipment because the wind is constantly driving coral sand loaded with salt particles and moisture into everything. The Jukebox has been dropped from a height of three feet (the height of my keyboard) more than half a dozen times onto a wooden deck. It has been filled with rainwater once. I shut it off, dried it with a hair dryer, and forty-five minutes later began using it again. It has been baptized twice with JB and water.
It has never faltered. Could your jukebox take this treatment?
My Jukebox should be the poster child for abuse of the Archos Jukebox. As soon as you discard that amazingly bad Music Match software in favor of Rockbox, the Juke becomes a giant. I have to be able to read the menu from three feet away. No problem, because the fonts are customizable.
Those who have had bad experiences with the Jukebox are those who would have a bad experience with a toaster. For the rest of you with an ounce of common sense, this is the only mp3 player that can take what you dish out.
Rating: Summary: No Good! Review: I bought an older model of this player, and since then it has been nothing but trouble. Shortly after buying it the charger broke, and would fry any new batteries I put in it. Now I have to remove the batteries and charge them in a battery charger. It freezes up all the time, and does not play random songs. The physical quality is also no good; the buttons became lose, and the battery covers do not snap back on. Finally, it is huge compared to most players, and weighs as much as an elephant. I would recommend to save a bit more money and buy a more expensive player.
Rating: Summary: I Wish I Could Give It 0 Stars Review: There is a reason this unit is so much cheaper than an iPod and that is because it is worthless. I bought this unit and within a year it is now completely worthless and Archos refuses to fix it under the warrenty. Don't buy this unit under any circumstances.
Rating: Summary: Good Review: I've had my Archos Jukebox player for a year now. I got it last year (...).
It is not as sleek or easy to use as most other players, but it plays music, stores files and records live very well. Sometimes it turns off without warning or freezes, but very rarely and only when the battery is low.
It's worth every dollar of what it costs.
Rating: Summary: Horrible Review: This unit died after a month of use. The drive wouldn't boot and kept on making clicking sounds. Get an Nomad or iPod. I've gotten the Nomad and much happier.
