Rating: Summary: Followup review Review: I wanted to do a quick followup review of this stick. My first impressions were quite good. The stick had all the buttons I wanted. Throttle and rudder controls. It worked great. Looked great. That was 2001...how time flies! But I still have this same stick and I've used the heck out of it. So how does it work in 2003 (almost 2004)? Well, just exactly how it did when I first bought it. Amazing stick!
Rating: Summary: Great- Review: I've had this stick for about two years, and it's been great. I've yet to come across a controller that fits so well in the hand, with throttle controls so easy to reach, top and bottom buttons so intuitivly placed...it really is the best I've seen. It gets a star off however for durability of service. After about a year I had to take it apart and do some rewiring, and a few months later the rudder control became unstable (as noted by other reviewers). The rudder control regained some stability over time, but never came back to perfect. What finally killed it was the throttle control wires, already repaired once, let go from use. (this is, understand, after many, many, many hours of Mechwarrior 3 games, in which throttle is constantly being moved). The wiring is very thin and difficult to salvage, so I said my goodbyes to the faithful controller, and have come to get a new one. :)
Rating: Summary: OK choice Review: It is an OK joystick - rather cheep, user friendly and easy to install. However, I had it only for about 3 months and already have some quality and precision problems. It is also not very ergonomic - you have to have loooong fingers to operate it comfortably and the stick is slippery. I strongly recommend similarly priced joysticks from ThrustMaster. They are great joysticks and many of them have a stick covered with rubber - very convenient, fits like a glove!
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Review: It works for Airplane type games like "Microsoft Flight Simulator 2003",shooting games like "Wolfenstein 3D" or racing games like "Moto Racer 2". It's easy to use and great as an alternative to using a keyboard.
Rating: Summary: Great Joystick Review: It's overall a great joystick. I use it mostly for Mechwarrior, but it's good for any flight/space sim as well. It has a good, heavy base that doesnt slide around much, there is a lot of resistance in the stick, which makes maneuvering easier, and the programmable buttons are amazing. Set one of them as the shift button, and you have twice as much functionality. My thumb tends to get tired when I have to switch back and forth between the two sets of buttons on top of it, but that's only after a couple hours, when I need to see sunlight anyways...
Rating: Summary: Great stick! Review: Just bought a used one a couple of weeks ago. Now I don't know how I played my flight games without it! All buttons are easy to reach, and the throttle gives you precise control of your plane. Even though I got mine used, the stick goes back to center position crisply, just like a new one. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a high-performance stick but doesn't want to pay the high price for a force-feedback one.
Rating: Summary: rudder-twist defect Review: Just like another reviewer, my rudder-twist function has become "jumpy" and ruins any flights. On the calibration screen, the rudder/twist needle jumps all across the scale when it is not being touched. When I look at the airplane I am trying to fly when it is parked and no engine running, I am amazed to see the rudder of the aircraft is actually deflecting back and forth! No wonder the aircraft is difficult to fly. This problem became noticable after only 6 months of owning this stick, which was stable when it was brand new. The price for this stick does not look so great when you will only get 6 to 8 months out of it!
Rating: Summary: Great at first! Then takes a fall. Review: Just like the rest of these reviews. Its one of the best joysticks u can ever have when u first buy it. After 6 month - 1 year the rudder starts to mess up. I have tried to calibrate it, but nothing happens,i tried to open it but the screws dont come of even though i have the right tools. Now i have to get a new one. At first i thought it was only me with this problem but as im reading it, everyone is having the problem, dont waste your money, u think it wont happen to u, but it does.
Rating: Summary: Useful design choices Review: Overall, I'm very happy with this stick. A few things you might consider before buying: - The palm rest at the base (where the butt of your hand lands) is a little low, making it a little difficult to reach to top buttons on the topside of the stick. However, at least this stick has such a thing (the Sidewinder does not). - The two buttons and the slider on the base are very useful for controlling things like boost and braking, which are hard to use sometimes if they're on-stick, especially when you're trying to fire at the same time. - The twist for the Z-axis becomes very natural, and is a GREAT way to control rudder (yaw) or roll. - The base is big and heavy (good), but no suction cups on the bottom. Works great for the two games I've currently tried: - Star Wars Starfighter - MS Combat Flight Simulator WWII Eurpoe Series So far, very happy with the purchase. Works fine on XP. Get the latest drivers from http://www.logitech.com/cf/support/logitech_wingman_soft.cfm and install before attaching the joystick to your system.
Rating: Summary: Good for some time..... Review: The bright side: the stick itself was a snap to install under XP, the buttons are laid out in a very ergonomic pattern, making 5 buttons(4 fire buttons and one hat) accessible by just sweeping the thumb. The throttle is also good, and the stick centers precisly. Now the dark side: like the other reviewers noted, the stick has problems with the twist rudder. However in my case, it started about 1 1/2 years after I bought it(I've had it for 2 years now), probably because I never used the twist rudder. Then it started twithcing, making it hard to control. Another con, is the lack of buttons. There are eight, but when you try to play such games as Janes F/A-18, there are simply nnoot enough buttons. I hope this helped you a little
