Rating: Summary: It's called a D-Pad, people... Don't screw it up! Review: While the Nostromo has some amazing features under its belt, I've found that it's got a serious flaw as well--the D-pad. Now, some people may not even use the pad all that much, but I play a lot of independant 2D games so the D-pad is critical to my PC gaming. Using the analogue sticks for this purpose is out of the question. Basically, I used it til it broke, so you can consider that some pretty thorough testing. And by broke, I mean the D-Pad just snapped right off; this is something I've never seen happen before. I've had buttons go out on me or lose sensitivity, but only after years of use, I can't say I've had the Nostromo nearly as long as my Genesis or Saturn pads (it can't have been more than six months), nor has it endured the furious abuse those controllers have recieved. Once the pad popped off, the reason for it was obvious--it's the "top" of a little stick, about a centimeter in diameter, and apparently it isn't afraid to give out on you. As I say, I've never lost a D-pad before. Most pads go with a more button-like design, and it's obvious to me now why. This is not acceptable. Everything else about this controller is fantastic, which makes it all the more painful to lose it. The programmable functionality is exceptional, it'll work even with games that don't support pads naturally, you can program macros, and the analogue sticks can even be used for mouse movement. The controller is very comfortable for me to hold (with my small girly hands even) and the grips are full and meaty, very pleasant to hang on to. But the D-pad? It's a piece of garbage. If you need a pad for analogue sticks and don't plan on heavy use of the digital pad, I can't recomend it enough. In my case though, the controller is seriously flawed in the most important place. The worst part is that I'll probably never find a replacement that's as good in all the other areas.
Rating: Summary: Works well with mac Review: Works well with mac. You may want to get the gamepad companion regardless of what gamepad you get. It allows you to map gamepad controls to keyboard buttons. I even mapped the analog joystick movement to mouse and the joystick button to mouse click. It makes a nice way to control eyetv and emulators. UPDATE: I used the gamepad companion to do the anolg joystick -> mouse movement setup. Use the action drop down.
