Summary: Excellent tradeoff between size/weight and sound quality
Review: As a frequent traveller, a criteria in whether to bring something is if the function justifies the space and weight. These small speakers in a compact and light package with their excellent sound are likely to come on every future overnight trip.

Now of course it isn't going to sound like a nice home stereo or even a boom box. But it can play loud enough, I suspect, to evoke complaints from your neighbors in the hotel. The high end is nice and crisp, and gives a dispersed sound that seems much wider than the width of the speaker, perhaps thru DSP. The midrange and bass are adequate, not quite in balance with the high end, but pleasant sounding. The bass goes audibly low, though of course with this power it's not going to shake your room. Unlike headphones (the only viable alternative) I could listen to these for hours, though quality headphones can sound better. I play music and movies on the computer thru the speakers and they are very good for this purpose.

The AC adaptor deserves special mention. Smallest and lightest one I've ever seen with this power capacity (9V 1000mA), obviously does not have a transformer. The prongs swing down when not in use, handy for packing. And it works for 100-240v, which is all you'll need. You will need a plug converter when using this in locales that use other than US plug style, but not a transformer. Also takes 4 AA batteries (I recommend rechargeables).

I bought a unit like this from Sony about 3 years ago, I think it's called the SRS-T1. That one includes a heavy transformer that only works in the US and does not have as rich midrange or bass, also has half the output power. The SRS-T77 is a huge improvement sonically, in weight, and in flexibility.

Summary: A Welcome Travel Companion
Review: As a part-time musician, I'm always on the lookout for new portable speaker solutions to mate with my little MP3 pocket jukebox and portable AM/FM-stereo/shortwave radio.

The stereo speaker pair in one piece like the SRS-T77 or its predecessor, Sony's SRS-T1, is a very convenient format for the traveler. I'm happy to say that I agree with another reviewer that the SRS-T77 represents a significant improvement over the SRS-T1.

The new model plays louder, is more musical, has better bass, and seems to last significantly longer on a set of batteries. I use nickel metal hydride rechargeables, and the speaker has been playing at loud volume for a number of hours; these batteries would have given out by now on the old model.

Though the bottom octave of bass is more implied than reproduced, the speakers produce a very listenable overall tonal balance on any kind of music I have thrown at them. Drums, guitars, horns, keyboards, strings all sound great. Of course, the speakers also do very well reproducing voice.

I hooked the speaker pair up to my Panasonic 5 inch portable DVD player, and my bandmates couldn't get over the quality of the sound coming out of such little speakers.

At 12 ounces in weight including batteries and measuring about the size of three CD jewel cases stacked up, the SRS-T77 is also an excellent size for traveling. I'm happy to report that Sony includes two useful extras, an AC adapter with folding plug and a travel case with drawstring.

Let me be clear here -- bass freaks may find the SRS-T77 wanting, but in my opinion the rest of us will consider the little speaker system a welcome companion in the office, on the road, on vacation, in the yard -- or backstage on a gig!

Summary: What a dandy little set of speakers
Review: I am not a techie person, so I was guided to buy these speakers based on what some of the other reviewers have said. My speakers came today - I plugged 'em into my Toshiba laptop and bingo - great sound. I also plugged them into my Dell MP3 player and got terrific results from that device too.
I'm happy with the product. For what it's meant to be - a mini travel set of speakers it delivers a surprisingly good sound in a lightweight, portable small package. Perfect.

Summary: Don't Drop It!
Review: I dropped the Sony Speakers on the bathroom floor from about 3 feet. One of the speakers broke off! There is no way to fix it. Now it's toast. I replaced it with the Altec Lansing inMotion speakers and was amazed in the improvement in sound. These speakers are discounted at Amazon making it a superior choice over the Sonys.

Summary: Justified?
Review: I find myself wondering if these guys are trying to justify their purchases. I have been out to sea for two weeks, am starved for sound and these speakers still sound pretty poor. Granted i have limited experience with 'travel' speakers but i am duly unimpressed.

Sony has another set with much larger speakers. I think i'll go listen to them when i get back to land.

Summary: A Great Gift
Review: I had originally purchased these Sony SRS-T77 Personal Travel Speakers to use with me on-the-road. But they've worked so well, I've ended up using them around the house -- whenever I want to listen to my music intimately, without headphones.

The Sony has a very flat design, and is about the size of three CD jewel cases lashed together, which makes them highly portable.

The sound quality, however, is excellent -- even at low volume -- which makes them the perfect companion for enjoying my music anywhere one-on-one. I use the speakers while reading the paper in the morning, or while eating breakfast or shaving. I'll even take them into the garage with me when I'm "puttering around" (as my wife puts it), or in the backyard when I'm lounging by the pool.

For those of you old enough, do you remember your first transistor radio? I took mine with me everywhere. These Sony speakers (attached to my jukebox MP3 player) have become just as personal for me.

The unit takes four AA batteries, but will play with the power either "on" or "off." I'll use the speakers unpowered when the room is quiet, and with the juice turned on when it's not. There's also a compact AC adapter which I've never used since the batteries last so long.

When traveling -- or when relaxing around the house -- these Sony Travel Speakers are great!

I'm sure they would also make a wonderful gift. Enjoy.

Summary: Super-portable; surprisingly robust
Review: I love these little things. I was fortunate enough to win myself a pair through an internet promotional deal several years ago, and am still pleased with the results. They've enhanced my portable CD-player, and then my CD-mp3 player, and now, my dedicated hard-drive mp3 player. Even now, people marvel at its compact design and surprisingly clear sound quality.

Until the next generation of technology comes along, you'll probably be hard-pressed to find a pair that's so conveniently designed. No, you don't really get any bass to speak of, and you can't turn it too loudly, but if you have a power source handy (I always use the AC adaptor), you can play plenty enough for you and your workmates to enjoy the music clearly.

I literally take this and my source of music everywhere I go, because you never know when you might want to share some impromptu tunes.

Summary: Sound quality
Review: I may have received a damaged unit. But I find the sound quality awful (I use it with an iPod). Any low or loud note -- voice, piano -- produces horrible vibrations. If my unit is typical, this is a shoddy product.

Summary: Niiiicce!!
Review: I needed a set of travel speakers that I could take with me to Europe and I just received these today. WoW! Very nice sound & EXCELLENT design for portability and traveling.

The unit is relatively flat with the speakers swiveling out to face the listener, then swiveling back in for packing. It also has what looks like two "bass" tube-type openings on each side, overall the sound is excellent. The unit accepts "AA" batteries and came with a compact AC adaptor styled a "world" AC adaptor given that it accepts varying voltage levels, however the prongs themselves are designed for the US standard. Not what I would call a "world" connector, but very well designed (prongs fold in) and likely to come in handy. The other reviewer's (JazzDiver's) comment regarding 100Hz was a mistaken reference to sound frequency, the 100Hz actually refers to the low range of the 100-240 voltage range the AC adaptor converts from.

Last, the speakers come with their own travel bag, very sleek and compact. If you're looking for amplified portable speakers, I doubt you will be dissapointed.

I considered the SonicBlue speakers, but read the reviews carefully, it looks like an awful lot of people aren't happy with them, despite some (suspicious?) glowing reviews.

One last comment, I purchased these on Sony's website as they don't seem to be available on Amazon.com yet.

Summary: almost perfect
Review: I really like the speaker's styling. They are very compact and sturdy as well as being very easy to carry. The 9-volt international adapter with a folding plug is a very nice addition. I don't have a major problem with the sound quality. High notes at loud volumes may vibrate a little. Bass reproduction is weak. But speakers deliver a clear, sharp sound even if it lacks depth. I'd pay more for portable speakers that delivered a more robust sound, and it's a little surprising that Sony and other manufactures aren't offering a richer line. You would think with all the minidisk, Ipods, and other portable devices on the market there would be better options.
