Summary: Yeah, they are right
Review: These are great speakers for the price. There are only two issues, not enough digital inputs (just one of each: computer, digital coax, and optical) and make sure that the woofer is at least a foot away from the cpu and monitor. Great sound very powerful.

Summary: More than just Computer speakers
Review: When I recently saw these speakers online, I was really hopefull that it could live up to my expectations. I already owned the Logitech z-340 speakers for my PC, which are a great set of 2.1 speakers, but I was in the market for something digital for my xbox and DVD player. Of course I considered getting a Digital Reciever, but to get anything decent in audio quality the basic $200+ home theater in a box wasn't going to cut it. No, I was looking at $500 minumum to get what I wanted. With the Z-680's, I have my xbox, DVD, and TV hooked up all at the same time, plus I can still hook up my computer if I want to. It doesn't have the ammount of inputs as a home A/V Reciever, but for what it has it really rocks.

The quality of audio is really impressive. Loud, thumping base made my roommate think there was a thunder outside. and the audio is very clear and rich. My only complaint, the speaker wire that is included is too short for my usage, and the cable that connects the Control module to the subwoofer is also a little shorter than I would have liked. The wall mounting options on the speakers are great though. All the speaker stands are removable and reversable, so wall mounting is easy.

Bottomline. Someday I will buy a Multi-Thousand dollar entertainment center with Dolby 7.1 audio. For now, this Dolby 5.1 and DTS setup is one of the best on the market, and there is none other I would rather have. It's got everything I need for kickin audio, and the look and feel of the sustem is second to none. If you need 5.1 audio for your PC, There is no alternative. Get this. If you want a 5.1 system that is multi-functional for TV, Xbox, PS2, DVD, and PC, This is an excellent combination of size, quality and sound. Believe me, if you get this you will not be dissapointed.

By the way, earlier models were told to have a problem with hiss coming from the speakers. This problem has been resolved with the more recent versions of this product. There is absolutely no hiss coming from my speakers, with or without an audio source attached. These are really great quality speakers.

Summary: High Value Product
Review: Assuming they fit your budget, these are excellent speakers for any computer system. Room-rattling bass for those that want it, but can thankfully be set to taste. Combine these with a good 5.1 sound card, put in your favorite CD or DVD and you'll suddenly notice there's material on the soundtrack that you've never heard before. I haven't noticed any of the hum that other reviewers mentioned, but I also have all the speakers several feet away, as Logitech suggests.

Surprisingly, they can also serve as a very nice-sounding, home theater package for the minimalist, having a practically non-existent footprint. If you've already got a DVD player and your satellite/cable receiver is digital, you'll probably find they have digital coax and/or optical outputs and will connect directly to the Z680's controller. If your TV room is 15' x 20' or less, they've got plenty of power, though the remote control range and form factor could be better.

Summary: THE BEST 5.1s YET! ...
Review: when i got my logitech speakies i was shocked at how big the box was when it came in .... i was so excited to hook it up. When i finally did WOW ! ...now i know why maximumpc gave it a [top notch] award instead of the promedia 5.1 but dont get me wrong im also a big fan of the KLIPSCHIES they are one of the best makers of speakers around. Anyway lets get to the two weak points of the logitech well actually just one for me.... 1st is the bass overkill for most people NOT for me i actually love it ...... 2nd is the hissing that the people are complaining about but theirs were exaggerated there is a hiss but you wont hear it unless u put your ear close to the speaker .... aside from anything else this thing ROCKS THE HOUSE especially for me cause i live in an apartment with wooden floorings so the bass is rocking the whole duplex. My last words are .... if u dont want the best 5.1 that would rock the house ... dont buy it .. otherwise GET THIS ONE U WONT REGRET IT !...

Summary: Good of course, but a little rough
Review: I own a Logitech 560 4.1 system, so I figured it would be a no-brainer to move up to the 5.1 680. Like its predecessor, it's really loud and has low distortion. But here are the issues I've had with it:

1. Way too much bass. Bass overkill. I couldn't set the sub level past 1/4 without losing everything hanging on my walls.

2. Ugly, fat, buggy, unuseful control pod. The dial is digital (you can keep spinning it in any direction) and it often jumps around when attempting to adjust volume. Its also big and ugly, and none of the controls are lit. The contrast on the display is poor.

3. Lousy effects. The effects that are supposed to make stereo sound like surround are pretty bad. The voices in songs and movies are 'moved' to the center channel, and you get a ghostly afterecho of the voices in the sattelites.

In summary, I like my Logitech 4.1 better. The controls were simpler, and in my opinion, much more robust. Don't get me wrong, this is an awe-inspiring system. Beleive it when people say that Logitech makes the best computer speakers out there. But I would either get the 4.1 560 or else wait for the next generation of 5.1 (or 6.1) from Logitech.

Summary: An Unbelieveable buy
Review: If it were possible, I would give this product 50 stars. When I got the speakers I was absolutly blown away. The sounds that they project make any music at all, whether it be rap, rock, classical, or jazz sound like you are at the concert. If you hook the system up to a DVD player or a computer with a DVD player like I did, it sounds BETTER than the movie theater. For those of you who are reading this and are serious gamers (just like me), you know how much of a pain it is to minimize your game window to switch songs, with the remote included you don't need to minimize anything. Just point and click even while playing without having to stop. The crisp sound that the THX certified, dolby digital speakers and subwoofer send out are mesmorising. All these great features, combined with the price (which right now is virtually unbeatable) makes this system a must have.

Summary: These speakers are the best you can buy for the price
Review: I bought these speakers specifically to hook up with my xbox, playstation 2, and gamecube. If you own especially an xbox and are looking for a way to get the most out of your games and movies buy these speakers. I hooked them up and whatched a movie and was shocked at how good they sound and how loud they are. I have researched a lot on speakers in this price range and nothing is even comparable to what you'll get with these for the price.

Summary: Great system for the price!
Review: This system is absolutely marvelous for the price. The overall system is very clean and crisp sounding. The bass is out of this world, I had some things on the table above it, and when I turned the bass all the way up the stuff started rattling off the table. Great value!

Summary: Amazon.com Buyers Beware!
Review: (...). The first Z-680 I received was DOA--the right-front channel was dead right out of the box. I didn't know this until I had drilled holes in my walls, ran the wire and set up the whole system. But, Amazon.com, true to its excellent ways with customers, had a second Z-680 on my doorstep in about 4 days. I was thrilled! So I set up this second system, turned it on and was so happy to hear the wonderful sound out of all the speakers. This happiness turned to rage about 20 minutes later when a buzzing sound started up, getting louder as the system heated up. The next day I tried again and after a few minutes I heard a pop and several of the channels went dead. So this system went back too.
(...). Being an electrical engineer and having worked with PCs since the early 80's, I pretty well know what I'm doing when it comes to connecting components to PCs. I know my sound card, a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2, is functioning properly. I have excellent surge supprssion in my power supply. This leaves only the Z-680 to blame. I can only suspect that what Logitech is sending to Amazon to offload on its customers is not the same quality or tested units that have won Logitech such positive reviews. Not willing to go through the hours of hard work involved in the unpacking, installation, uninstalling, repacking and reshipping again, I decided to go with my second choice the Creative MegaWorks 5.1 550 system. This system worked right out of the box and has continued to give me much that I expected to get from the Z-680.
I'm not happy not to have gotten the Z-680 system. It has features that I would prefer over the Creative system. Having worked so closely to both, the Z-680 is much more robust and has the digital output and a true remote control. The 15-20 minutes of sound that I had from the second Z-680 system was superb. I truly wish I was now listening to the Z-680 system, not because I have any complaints about the Creative MegaWorks THX 5.1 550, but because of what the Z-680 has that the MegaWorks does not. (...)

Summary: Z-680
Review: Received these about 2 days ago, lugged them in the house and set it up. No problems, set up was a snap. I've tried the setup with DVD's (DTS and reg. Dolby Digital) and it sounds great. I invested in a SB Audigy 2 card a while back and these speakers really take advantage of it. I have noticed a hiss from the speakers. Logitech's site has an entry in the FAQ about it that states its completely normal. It caused me to move the center channel to a place where its less noticeable. Again, this is what the FAQ suggested. Only two gripes. First, I really would like to have a digital hookup to the Audigy rather than plain old analog. Second, its going to be hard to upgrade to monster cable (if I later decide to) since the hookups on all the speakers (except the center channel) are the lug type. None of these sink the set since it looks and sounds great. Just keeps it from being a '5'. Worth every penny.
