Summary: Logitech Z-680
Review: I just plugged these speakers in yesterday and have been fiddling around with them, trying to get the best sound since I don't have a 5.1 sound card, and nonetheless, they still completely blow away any speakers I have ever heard in my life. Before these I was running an Altec Lansing 4.1 system, and the bass output on these speakers is so crystal clear I about cried.

I haven't yet tested how they do at high volume, though, because I'm in a college dorm and I think I might have a mob forming outside my door screaming at me.

I recommend these speakers to anyone serious about music, perhaps those with digital keyboards and those that do digital recording.

There are two things about them that I don't like, though.
1. I wish the manual book were a little more descriptive on how to get the best sound with unpriviliged folks such as me that don't have a 5.1 card
2. The advertized output wattage is actually 450 watts RMS (thats what it says on the box), and mathematically, the max output wattage is about 637 watts. (I'm an electronics geek, I know). The logitech website even says something different, so I don't know about it. I'm going to test the wattage after awhile to see what I get

Summary: Too much noise and too little support
Review: When I received my 680s I immediately heard the noise when the speakers are turned down. In addition, sometimes when connected to a DVD player the speakers make an awful racket when the DVD is paused.

I called Logitech and they told me they were aware of the issue. Apparently they upgraded the firmware in the control pod and were issuing new pods to customers who complained. But let me tell you - you have to complain loud. The customer service person I spoke with made me jump through all the hoops, assumed I was an idiot (i.e., didn't have it connected correctly) and eventually gave in and approved a new pod.

I think their "firmware" change was really just an adjustment to the ambient sound of a few channels. So while the white noise has decreased, so has the ambient sound I really want in my music.

Yes, 500 watts is a good deal for $400 - so much so that Logitech is discontinuing the current Z line in place of a new, dumbed down line. Now that Logitech has their foot in the PC audio door, look for less feature-rich product for your money. It's just business, right?

Summary: Best Speakers for the Price
Review: I was reading reviews for these before I bought them and was reluctant to. I got them and hooked them all up and they sound great no hissing or anything else wrong. Logitech did good with these speakers. I wil recommend these to friends that bought the Klipsch Promedia.

Summary: Great Speakers
Review: After looking at Creative Labs and a few other companies popular for their sound systems, I decided to chose Logitech's Z680 speakers for my PC. I was a little concerned buying a pretty serious sound system for my PC from a company that didn't specialize in audio devices, however I definetly did not make the wrong choice. These speakers create an excellent sound, and the subwoofer is extremely powerful. The speakers allow for three different types of input (direct, optical, or coax) which makes them extremely convenient. They also allow for a headphone to be plugged in and can have a portable device such as an MP3 player plugged in.

These speakers give great sound quality for a very reasonable price and are ideal for PC users who are serious about their music!

Summary: Gigantic Improvement with a few notes
Review: This is my first "real" or "serious" audio system for a PC. I really had no idea what to expect, other than hoping it gets near the realm of sound like a full, real, stereo system. I reluctantly gave it 4 stars because while it is vast improvement over the pair of computer speakers that came with my Dell Precision 360, I didn't know if I am supposed to be getting something that sounds just as good as a decent stereo with good speakers. I was a little disappointed because I thought for a system with this many watts for this dollar amount would be able to get louder and fuller sounding. Again, I am expecting real stereo sound. I might be too harsh on a PC system, don't know. The sound on this system is nice -- the subwoofer seems too powerful in comparison to the speakers, as I have to lower it a lot. The center channel seems a bit weak. I LOVE the Control Center pad with lit lcd and remote -- VERY cool. Amazon's deal on this helped sway me to give it 4 stars, since one judges on performance for the money, even though I am not sure how other competitng systems, or even this level of quality, is SUPPOSED to sound. Until I learn more, I am happy, and love the look and feel. I took the time to give the review because they help me so now it's my turn -- even though I only half-know what the heck I am talking about!

Summary: "Logitech in...Klipsch out!
Review: I have been spoiled when it comes to computer speakers. My first set was the Klipsch promedia 2.1. Then the promedia 4.1, not as great as the 2.1. To sum it up the logitech Z-680's are awsome. They are crystal clear and the bass will shake the entire house, or where ever you live. These are the cream of the crop. I did alot of research on these bad boys, read the reviews and your choice should be simple. Great sound, intense bass. Oh did I mention that AMAZON.COM has the best price, the money would be well spent...that says it all!!!

Summary: Full surround for only $300!!
Review: For only $300 the system calibrated well with the bass being just a little hot even when turned all the way down. Voices on movies and music were crystal clear and the center channel speaker blended well with the front speakers. The voices seemed to come from the screen and not a small speaker. Even in a large room sitting 9 ft from the speakers the sound was just as it should be. With the speaskers set at a calibrated level of SPL 75 voices and music were clear and easy to hear. When the battles startred in the Lord of the Rings the bass volume was enough to make you feel and hear the action on the screen. Everyone that has hear them has commented on the great bass. A great deal for only $300. Plus you get a remote controll!!

Summary: Great product, but advertisers beware
Review: I opened the box in my tiny college dorm room looking for something will blast music onto the academix quad outside my window. This does the job perfectly! It does a great job for a 450 watt system. But wait, didn't Amazon claim this to be 500 watts? I don't know where that came from, but the consumer should know that and I am surprised that this has not been picked up on yet.

After reading few of the other testimonials I noticed that I was not the only one to have problems hearing voices through the speakers. Oddly enough, after about 10 min of use, it sounded perfect and the singers came through clear as a bell. One more thing, make sure you either have coax, optical, or a three minijack sound card to make sure you get full use out of all the speakers. Overall a GREAT product.

Summary: Extremely High Quality Sound Product
Review: I've owned them all. Everything from the first Pro-Logic systems the the THX certified ones. I've owned the Klipsch Promedia GMX DD5.1 for about 6 months now and everyone kept telling me to get rid of them and get the z-680s. I finally decided to go through with it. Having recieved them two weeks ago, I can tell you that they sound as good as they did when I first fired them up. 450 Watts isn't a small amount of power. Never I mean NEVER leave a drink on the edge of a table when these things are on. It'll roll right on off and make that stain that you never imagined possible. Not once has the subwoofer had to handle too much power to a point where it faulters.

The satellites can capture almost every single song I've ever thrown at it. But the beauty here isn't the Pro Logic or the music. The beauty is the digital sound and the THX. When a product like this has the THX approval, you know you're getting top of the line. And for $299.99! How can I complain?! The sound is phonomenal!

Summary: Research your Sound card first.
Review: Prior to my purchare I did about 2 weeks worth of research. I connected the Z680s via an optical cable to a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum sound card and the results are amazing.
You can only use optical cable if your sound card has an optical I/O. The quality of sound that is produced by these speakers is so clear, I hear an amazing assortment of details that I would not normally notice.
I do notice a hiss when the speakers are idle, it's the same sound you hear when you turn any speaker set way up no sound being produced. The hiss is really not a very big concern though and not noticeable when the speakers are speaking.
The down side is; these speakers with a good sound card are ahead of thier time. The quality of CDs and most music production is at a lower quality than what something like this can do. I have a sample DVD-audio disc and the difference between old CDs and DVD-audio is HUGE!! Do the research, and take a good look at your sound card or your X-box or whatever it is you are using them for. Don't buy the Z680s unless you have a system that can fully support the effects the Z680s can produce. Do that, and you will not be dissapointed.
