Rating: Summary: good for almost everything. Review: I bought these speakers with the intent of creating my own little home entertainment center for music (primarily) and for movies. When I heard them at the store (costco) they sounded great except for a little distortion I thought was due to the MP3 player. AFter taking them home and putting them through my rigorous testing process I found that they work great with Earth, Wind and Fire, and reproducing a great acoustic jazz bass sound (I'm a bass player). They sounded great with most all of my jazz CD's except Bill Evans (the piano sounded funny) and Branford Marsalis (the mix between the drums and bass was a little muddy). Then there was the classical test. My wife plays violin, and is also pretty particular about sound. It failed in reproducing a good sound with bowed bass (Edgar Meyer) and exposed mixing flaws in orchestras. Perhaps the worst part was the distortion that occured at low volumes particularly in choral music. So, if you like rock music, these are the speakers for you (if you care about hearing yourself talk). If you like jazz, you might want something better, and if you like classical or choral music, pick something else.
Rating: Summary: Pretty disappointing Review: I bought these speakers, and although the sub sounds good, the satellites give off a very tiny sound. It may be OK for games, but if you like to listen to music on your PC these are NOT the speakers to get. Secondly, they output very loud static whether they are plugged to the sound card or not. Altec Lansing tech support is of no help. One rep told me to exchange them because they were probably defective (which I did, and it made no difference), and another rep told me it was normal. I think all 2100 will exhibit this phenomenon, and if you work in a silent environment it is VERY annoying. I got instead the Altec Lansing 621 for 30$ more. They also give some heavy static, but at least they sound much better.
Rating: Summary: Look cool. Sound great. Review: I can't understand why reviewers here haven't consistently rated these speakers at 5 stars. I have these speakers in my office and they sound truly incredible. Maybe it has something to do with room acoustics? I also have Monsoon MH500s at home. These sound much worse, both in terms of imaging and the level of distortion at higher volume levels. Given that they both cost about the same, I would go with the Altec Lansing.
Rating: Summary: Best Computer Speaker Set for under $40 Review: I don't need all the surround speakers--too many wires!--so I have been looking a long time for a reasonably priced 2.1 setup. This is absolutely it.
Paired with a Creative Blaster Live card, the bass is unbelievable, and overall sound reproduction is amazingly clean and detailed for the money. [Got my set for 29.99 plus tax at another site, sorry Amazon].
Just buy it. There'll be no regrets.
Rating: Summary: Theater like sound from the subwoofer! Review: I gave these speakers as gift to my parents, to connect to their laptop. They popped in the Pirates of the Caribbean in their laptop and were blown away by the impressive theater like sound, especially from the subwoofer. They liked the speakers so much they want to connect them to the DVD player in their living room, for an inexpensive home theater experience.
Rating: Summary: Solid sound, priced right Review: I got more than what I expected with these wonderful speakers after returning a less expensive set that didn't meet my expectation. Great sound and good dynamic range make this set worth the extra expense.
Rating: Summary: Loved it for my Desktop Review: I have been looking for a set of speakers like this one. Hooked up with ease and listening to iTune from the internet is a blast. Subwoofer a bit too large but I find a good spot underneath the computer desk. Satellite speakers looks cool and the seperate volumn adjust is very convenient. If you don't need surround sound, this is a good choice. I got (...)and a free set of earphone. Good deal!
Rating: Summary: stop searching, get these! Review: i looked for the best 4.1 speaker system for around $100 and these are them! the sub is very powerful, and total wattage is 140. blows away your stock speakers. the satilites are surprisingly small, only 2"x2"x8". they provide all the highs and a majority of the mids. the sub does its job well for deep clear bass. the speaker cords are plenty long to position those speakers all around. the remote is also a great touch with several options avaliable right where you want it. a definite solidly built system by altec lansing.
Rating: Summary: Altec Lansing 2100`s Review: I love them in other words a lot of bang for the buck it may just be my flimsy desk of the acoustics under it but they really thump although one downfall was the really low frequency bass (60Hz and below) didnt come in too well but i was suprised at the beautiful sound quality that they had if you are in to rap, techno, rock,or new age these are the way to go they are sturdy and powerful and i only paid 50 bucks for them at a computer outlet so they were worth it to me if you have any comments about them or any other stereo equipment (i am a qualified expert)I would like to hear them at... or write to me at: 1034 old graysville Rd. Dayton TN,37321 Thanks
Rating: Summary: Get these speakers:) Review: I ordered these speakers because I needed an inexpensive set of powered speakers for my Apple Airport Express. The price was right so I thought, "what the heck." I was surprised at how small and elegant the speakers were. The quality is excellent and the adjustable bass subwoofer is a plus. I am extremely happy with the speakers and would have paid $25.00 more AFTER hearing the quality.
Remember, the are not Bose, but Altec. For your computer you can't go wrong.
The only thing that I can say in a negative is that the remote is connected via wire to the back of the subwoofer. It is the only way to turn on the speakers and control the volume.
Not a big deal but I am using them for remote wireless sound in another room so if I am aross the room I have to walk to the remote to adjust the sound.
Again, by these guys. You will not be disappointed.
