Rating: Summary: Great 4 all music, movies, & gaming needs. Especially w/ PS2 Review: Bought this system and hooked it up with my playstation2. Altec included a special cable to easily hook up both ps2 audio jacks into the satillites, while keeping your video jack in the tv. A lot of systems do not provide these cables, so this was a nice extra. Setup is easy. There is plenty of cord for a lot of reach. Slim design fits anywhere and looks PERFECT with the ps2 system, or anything in need of a modern look.Altec's sound is superb compared to your average tv. You paid $(...) for a gaming system, you might as well take advantage of its high quality sound capability. These speakers are a start. This system boosts a nice bass sound, while maintaining top quality and clarity. As previously posted, the midrange could use more boost. You can adjust the subwoofer, but unfortunately there is no other knobs to refine the sound to your taste. It's because of this that the system misses a perfect score. Overall, altec did a wonderful job with the sleek, lightweight design. Best sound for your dollar. Top quality. Buy these speakers!
Rating: Summary: amazing speakers.... Review: Buy this and u will love it......no more words.

Rating: Summary: Can not believe it! Review: First, I was very sad when I received them, because the main speakers are so small that they does not present the same things as they are in the website.
However, when I put them to my computer, I was shaked by their sound. I can not believe that such small speakers can produce this clean, balanced sound.
Comparing with Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 I used about a year, which was always regarded as high end computer speaker system and three times expensive than 2100, I think that 2100 sound is cleaner and more natural. Klipsch kits can only be better if you will always listen your music not sitting in front of your computer, otherwise you want to use your computer while enjoying the music, lancing should be better choice. For their small size, you can easily balance two speaker's position to make a better stereo taste.
However, lacking the headphone jack can not be forgived, and subwover is too much( I always close it). Concering about those two thing, I give this system 4.5 star.
Rating: Summary: Great sound! Review: Great looks + great sound. Although volume controls are not rotatory, it is simplistic. Im loving the sound. Buy it.
Rating: Summary: Cheap, and acceptable value for money Review: Hello,
I purchased these speakers at amazon.com for a knockdown holiday sale price of $29.99, they came in today and I tried them with some basic techno, metal and rock music. The set up was a breeze, just plugged in the basic items to each other, and the best part was that the power cord doesnt have a large bulky adapter which would have hogged space at the power outlet.
Altec Lansing is a much better brand compared to Logitec or Creative and they are manufactured with better quality components, thus component aging is much slower giving you constant performance over a longer period of time.
The speakers perform pretty well in the mid volume range, nothing to blow your mind away, but reasonably above average.
But when the volume is jacked up, it utterly distorts the music with excessive background noise. And I mean utterly kills it! You wont be even able to make out the words!
It is definitely NOT a speaker which you would like to use for adding some loud music to a party or something, but it is fairly acceptable given its price. I think, presently, it's price has been jacked up a little, I wouldnt pay more than $40 for this under any circmstances.
I also wish the speakers (not the woofer) could be of a bit higher wattage. The RMS (Root mean square) power is indeed below average. But note that RMS power is not the only consideration when purchasing the speakers, quality factor (Q) ratings and fidelity are very much more important than any thing else. A good example would be those tiny Bose speakers which deliver absolutely divine and crisp music.
And honestly, I think this 2.1 Altec Lansing speaker system just doesnt have that crisp high fidelity performance. Never the less, it is a pretty decent value for money. Definitely some thing you can use for day to day movie watching or gaming.
Just make sure you wait till the price falls below $40.
Rating: Summary: Some odd engineering Review: I bought my speakers for $29.95 after rebate, and at that price they blow everything similar away. They sound nice, although sometimes I get the feeling I'm listening to two systems at the same time--one with limited bass, the other a subwoofer--while at other times, on different music, it sounds okay. Hard to imagine that the little drivers extend downward to where the subwoofers roll off. The small satellite speakers look nice, but there's no rearward extension of the foot, so I've knocked mine over many times. Also, with a slightly different design, they could have accommodated 1.5" microdrivers, with 2.25 times as much piston area, and within the same footprint. I doubt manufacturing cost would have changed much, but midbass performance would have been greatly enhanced. Makes one wonder.
Rating: Summary: Looks nice - sound and features are average. Review: I bought the 2100 set because it looks very nice, and most of the online reviews said it sounded very good. I reckoned this would be a very sweet package. I'm a little disappointed in the sound quality though. The two sattelites give excellent highs but the midsection is weak. I listen to mostly rock and metal, and often the male voices and guitars sound like they were standing outside the studio screaming in while making the recordings: they are not very present. The only adjustments you can make on the set itself is the volume of the subwoofer at the back of the box. Now I have fixed most of this with the equalizer in my music player, and the regular rock music sounds ok now. But the lower screams and superheavy guitarsound in albums like Life of Agony's "River Runs Red" still don't pack the punch they should. Of course the drumbeats can still pound like an earthquake when necessary thanks to the sizable subwoofer, but it's the midsection that is lacking. Added to this problem are the weird volume controls on the wired remote: there is no indication of how far you are, there are just two buttons for less and more. Add to that the strange quirks that the volume level is reset to its lowest whenever to power is turned off and the absence of a headphone jack. Take this all together and it seems like a small effort was taken to keep the end user in mind when designing this system, and producing a balanced sound must not have been a major goal. I give it 3 stars for good looks, solid construction and decent sound quality after a slew of adjustments. But if you don't care for the looks, I wouldn't recommend choosing this system.
Rating: Summary: great system Review: I bought the Altec Lansing 4100 speakers for christmas this year and have loved them ever since. The 4 satilte spekers are small and powerful and fill my room with sond. The subwoffer is extremly powerful and shakes the house when on half power. I love the speaker, but my parents and neighbors don't. They were easy to set up too. Each speaker has a color coded wire that matches with the plugs on the back of th sub so it is very easy to put together. Please note that the gaming mode will not work unless you have a gaming sound card. But you can get use out of all four speakers if you use stereox2 mode.
