Rating: Summary: Nice, but need some help here! Review: I love these speakers so far! however, i have some problems connecting it to my sound card (sound blaster live! 5.1) It seems like this sound card has a bias towards the cambridge soundworks speakers set. Anyhow, i have not gotten the digital settings to work yet, but music sounds great on 4 ch. If anybody can help me, please email me at (...) Thanx! (i only gave it 4 stars cuz the sound cannot beat me most favorite speakers of all...my old nakamichi set...that was brilliant!)
Rating: Summary: Good speakers for the money Review: I owned the TSS-1's for a few months and they served me well. For the price you won't find more options in a set of computer speakers - optical and coaxial S/PDIF, and Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS. The sound from the satellites are exceptionally clean and crisp, and the subwoofer packs a tight punch, especially in 5.1 sound. It is definitely among the best I've heard for computer use, for playing MP3's or games. The satellites are small and convenient to place even on a crowded area, and the subwoofer is compact enough to fit under your desk. The receiver/amp is also simple to operate, and the setup is easy and reasonably portable - all RCA-type connectors, no standard speaker wire. With its compact size comes some drawbacks, namely the fact that it is underpowered, even for use in small living rooms. It can be difficult to hear dialogue through the center channel in 5.1 mode, even with it turned all the way up. Because of the 2" drivers you will miss a lot of the richness of DVD audio that even a low-end home theater setup can afford. However, at this price you can't expect much more from a speaker set. My experience with the TSS-1: Great for games and music, OK for DVD. Nice for bedroom/dorm room use.
Rating: Summary: Don't Waste Your Money Review: I purchased these speakers one year and a month ago. At the time there was a $30 factory rebate offered that made the price exceptional. However, I was warned by other customer reviews at the time that the rebate was tricky and had to be sent in 2 weeks after the date of purchase not date of delivery. I made sure all of the required documents were sent in on time, and I made photcopies just in case. However, a few weeks later I received a postcard stating I did not send in my UPC code (though they actually lost it). The postcard gave an email address to respond to if I felt there was an error, but no phone number!! I had a copy of my UPC code and immediately eamiled them within the time limit they required for a response on that! I never received a reply!!! Now, $30 is not a lot of money, but the lack of customer service is what makes me mad. Oh well, I decided to enjoy the speakers. The sound quality was good (not spectacular). That is until last week...the amplifier/control unit speaker output stopped working. The headphone jack still receives sound. Of course this happened ONE MONTH AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED!!! So here I am back on Amazon looking for more speakers! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THESE! DUE TO THE LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE I WILL NOT BUY ANY OTHER YAMAHA PRODUCTS!

Rating: Summary: Great system to introduce you to a 5.1 channel system. Review: I read multiple reviews and forum postings when researching these speakers, but when I actually set them up and popped sarah mclachlan's Mirrorball DVD, to say I was blown away is an understatement. These are great speakers and a fantastic deal.
Rating: Summary: Excellent System for the Price Review: I was looking for a Home Theater system for quite a while... I saw this system...and liked the clarity of music and voice it produced... This system can produce clear sound even if you turn up the volume, doesn't crack. I mainly use this for watching movies. I connected my DVD player with the supplied Optical Cable and the sound is great. I connected my digital cable box with the supplied Coaxial cable and now can enjoy digital surround sound. Also I had connected my VCR to this system. Now I can watch VHS movies with Dolby Pro Logic. This system has a built in DD and DTS decoders. Especially watching DTS coded DVD's is great (Pearl Harbor and Saving Private Ryan). My Living room size is 16 x 12 and keeping the volume at 4.5 (max is 10) fills the whole room. The only drawback is that this doesn't come with a remote control. Sometimes it's irritating but for this price I think you can't expect more than this. People out there, just don't go and fall for...other costly brands if you don't have a very big room. Trust me this will be more than enough. All my friends and relatives were surprised that I could get a system that doesn't Cost much and at the same time produce better sound. Place your speakers properly and you can get clear 5 channel sound.
Rating: Summary: finally a 5.1 speaker system designed for the computer Review: I've used this speaker system in all kinds of arrangements and they all sound great! for gaming, DVDs, music and it fills up space with very small speakers, chords are plenty long enough to space out for a true 5.1 dolby digital or DTS experiance. the small subwoofer packs a punch! works well with the playstation 2. most other 5.1 sound systems designed for the computer do NOT have digital inputs, which make them useless if you want to hook it up to a dvd player and watch on a TV, Yamaha always makes quality products and at this price, do not pass it up! no comparison to any other sound system I've tried
Rating: Summary: Excellent Acoustics, but lacking in power. Review: If you have a small dorm room, and you don't crave ground pounding force, then by all means, go for this set. The strength is this system lies in its fine craftsmanship and excellent acoustic quality. You'll notice that it's finely designed and made the moment you take them out of the box. Test it w/ Tony Braxton's Spanish Guitar, you'll notice how clean and accurate the sound reproduction is. I'm not an expert in audio, but among the computer systems I've owned or heard (Altec 641, Logitech 560, 680, Klipsch 2.1/4.1, Creatives, etc), this one is among the finest in terms of acoustic quality. The only power system that comes close in terms of sound is Creative megaworks 550D, clear and clean, only w/ more watts to shake it. But then, if you're really serious about audio, you should invest some money in a home theater setup, which will cost you more, but every penny is worth it w/ the right equipment.
Rating: Summary: Incredible Value, No Remote Control Review: Incredible value at $69AR. Highly recommended. Great sound and features. I'm totally delighted with performance. Does not have a remote control. Would have liked one to control digital-to-audio input switching and volume.
Rating: Summary: Good speakers, good price - but TAKE NOTE Review: It's going to be tough to find a better price on a mid-range 6 piece amplified system with DD5.1 and DTS decoding, but I believe I found the reason behind the bargain basement pricing on this package...read on. The TSS-1 has gained some well deserved industry recognition, due to the excellent mid and high end reproduction emitted from it's 5 identical 2" cones, adequately supported by the ported 5" sub's lows. Yamaha has employed a concept dubbed "Active Servo" in the design of this system, which seems to be a catch phrase to explain their reasoning behind the crossover threshold and use of a ported cabinet. You can read more about this on Yamaha's website if you like, but I believe that the end result of Yamaha's new math is a noticeible loss in midrange. Setup is easy enough. Regulation RCA plugs cap the speaker cables, which are long enough to position the speakers just about anywhere within listening range. Inputs are straightforward, but it is in this category that Yamaha made their gravest mistake...THIS IS IMPORTANT...THERE IS NO CENTER/SUB ANALOG INPUT! They did include and analog input for front l/r, and one for rear l/r - why did they neglect center/sub? I have no idea. This IS a 6 speaker system, but this shortcoming really limits the system's capabilities when you don't have a 5.1 digital source (which is pretty much any time you are not playing a DVD). For computer applications, don't be fooled if you have a 5.1 capable sound card (Live!5.1, Audigy, Extigy) into thinking that it will encode your audio sources into a digital form that can be interpreted by this decoder. All you will get digitally is 2 CHANNEL STEREO, further modified by the amp's Pro-Logic circuitry. You can switch over to analog 4-channel mode via a front mounted toggle button, but you will lose any data contained in the front and sub channels. The result of this is you can't hear any sounds positioned to appear directly in front of you, and the loss of the sub-directed bass frequencies. Also, the switch from digital to analog mode requires a change to the sound card setting (on Creative cards, anyway), which is yet another nuisance. Alright, so have I made my point about this system being essentially useless for 6 channel analog audio? If your application is to drive 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS exclusively in a close-quarters environment (i.e. DVD direct connection), then this product is the jewel. The speakers themselves are not easily mounted to a wall so that they may be positioned well, but the stands have adjustable tilt up to about 15 degrees off level for desktop placement. The control panel is straight forward, and the Pro-Logic function seems to work well for pseudo-surround. That's about all, and probably enough if you were considering this set for use with a computer. Hope it helps someone with their decision.
