Summary: nice.
Review: I wanted a set of speakers for my powerbook that were good, but not overly destructive to my wallet. I am very satisfied with Altec Lansing, and when i do upgrade I will probably buy from them again. If you want to spend under $100, this is a great system.

Summary: Awesome system coming from a college student
Review: When I read reviews about this system, I was a bit cautious because people weren't giving good reviews on the mids for this system. Well, I say this system rocks. I live in a college dorm and I would say there's only one other system that sounds better than what I've got, and he paid over...for his. The bass is truly awesome for what you pay. And the rest of the sound spectrum is there, too. I love these things. In fact, I'm going to buy another set of them for my surround. That will be sweet. Anyway, everyone that has heard these speakers have been either amazed or impressed. Heck, after buying these, my roommate and another guy down the hall bought them too. That says something.

Good Luck with your shopping

Summary: Best 2.1 speaker system for under $100.
Review: I researched 2.1 computer speakers for about 4 weeks and also after listening to several at a CompUSA, finally settled on these speakers. Every review that I read about these speakers was right, they are just simply awesome! By far the best 2.1 speaker system you can get for under $100. They can handle all my MP3, games, DVD movies, etc... I couldn't be more happier with my purchase. :) I highly recommend these for anyone looking for an excellent 2.1 solution for under $100.

Summary: Not incredible
Review: I'm sorry. These speakers are not incredible. Given that computer speakers have sounded like garbage for so many years, these are pretty good. They sound "thin" especially in the mid-range. Highs are OK and the bass is good. The on-off/volume/bass/treble controls are nice touch.

I recently got these and I haven't decided if I want to keep them. At one point I wondered "these sound like low-to-mid grade drivers aimed at my desk surface" -- and they are. They are not "flat-panel"; they are 3" cone-drivers facing down (novel) and 2 small tweeters in the towers (aka micro-drivers...???)...

I don't know. These are probably not bad for well under 100 bucks. However, I don't know if they are really very satisfying. Will I make do or choose to step up?...

Summary: Speaker system uses innovative design to produce great sound
Review: Upon purchasing this system, I was a little skeptical of what it would sound like. I had never seen speakers with such a design and down-firing midranges. However, these speakers produce a great sound for the price. The bass is deep and clear, and the trebel, a bit tinny at times, is not overpowered by the lower ranges. The unique three way design of the satellite speakers provides great quality, and exceptional bass response for 3" speakers. Great deal, you will not be disappointed.

Summary: Amazing sounding speakers!!!
Review: wow, I bought these from Compusa with a rebate on them. good deal. My friend had them at his house for some time and they blew me away.
these speakers are top of the line. Although the sub might seem small, it really packs a punch, it even plays deeper tones than my 12" sub in my car.
the speakers are rather revolutionary. They pack 2 tweeters in the tower and a downfiring midrange on the bottom. very nice looking and great sounding.
i have turned up the volume to just past half with the treble and bass knobs all the way up, let me tell you, it has comparable sound to a dj system. it is mindblowingly loud with no noticible distortion. the sub tucks away easily.
of course they are only 2.1...but who cares, they sound awesome
anything wrong with them? maybe make the cords a little longer, they are long now, i'm just picky. maybe a midrange control added to the bass and treble controls.
i added small spacers under the front feet of the speakers to allow more midrange sound to come out.
just get these speakers, you will be happy, trust me

Summary: After 6 years still going strong.
Review: I purchased these speakers for $99.99 back in 1999 and they are still going strong. I have not have any problems with them except for the fact that that the knobs for the bass and treble controls have fallen off. The controls still work however, but they are a bit harder to turn because the controls are harder to grip.

When I got these speakers they were one of the best for that price range. Of course this is no longer the case, but for me I find these speakers more than adequate. The clarity in these speakers is very good, however you will hear some distortion if you have them on full blast with the bass turned all the way up. Keep the speakers at a sensible level and you will soon discover that they are loud and powerful and clear at the same time. Even without the subwoofer, the sattelite speakers can also be viewed as very good speakers despite their small size.

For the $100 I spent for these speakers new, I am sure I can get a much better speaker set these days, however I really do not have the need to. The last speaker set I bought was from Wal-Mart, those things did not last over 6 months, it has been 6 years since I bought these and they still work like new. As long as they hold up, I will hold off in upgrading them. Eventhough I am pretty sure you can find these speakers even cheaper, the $60 Amazon has these listed at is still well worth the price.

Summary: Altec Lansing for clarity without extreme power
Review: If you want crystal clear sound without having your hair flying, buy anything from Altec Lansing, but these ones are the best quality/price ratio for a low-power 2.1 configuration.

If you're looking for more power, get a set from Creative Labs (ok), LOGITECH (awesome), or Klipsch ($$$), as they will most likely push you against the wall with the same sound quality as Altec Lansing's ATP3.

1-inch tweeter x2 plus 3-inch mid x1 / satellite
6.5 inch subwoofer
(totals 4 tweeters, 2 mids, 1 sub)

Great for small rooms and apartments.

Again, SAME QUALITY, but WON'T RIP OFF YOUR EARS.
