Summary: risky buy
Review: i bought these speakers a couple of months ago but i don't know why i didn't chose to return them immediately. they don't fit my needs of a dorm room - the subwoofer is way too small (and it buzzes as another person also commented) and there is NO headphone outlet (meaning private listening is out of the question). the sound has been pretty clear up until tonite, when they totally failed on me. now it sounds like i'm listening out of two tin cans...but...there's a one year warranty on these. i'm definitely returning them to monsoon and crossing my fingers that this set was just a manufacturing defect. check out altec lansing speakers - they may not look as cool with the flat satellites, but i've never heard of them giving any one of my friends problems.

Review: I have a set for both myself and my wife and we love them! They've been running flawlessly for the past few years and I don't see myself replacing them for quite some time.
All the cords are plenty long enough, included dongle allows for quick mute/volume adjustment, and they look great to boot!

Summary: Slaming Sound System
Review: I just received my Monsoon 500's. The bass in this system is excellent. The level of volume is good but could be better when playing your CD's in the CD Rom. It seems the output or level of volume lessens when playing your CD's. Other than that when downloading music the volume is excellent you feel like you're in a club. I give it 4 Stars because of the sound, it's unbelievable. I should have purchased the 700's but I'm very satisfied with the 500's. If you're a first timer and not sure, the Monsoon 500 Speakers are definitely a wise choice.

Summary: The bass buzzes!
Review: I loved the look of these speakers, but they were so bad I had to return them. I brought them home, and the bass made a buzzing noice when turned past 1/4 volume. I am not sure whether my model was broken, or if the design is flawed, because when I put my hand over the air port it stopped the buzzing. So it seemed to me like the air port was poorly designed. But it is possible that I just had broken speakers. I would advise you to check these out in the store before you buy them. Cause without the bass problem they were good speakers, but the bass buzzing was too intolorable....

Summary: Sound pretty good to me
Review: I use them on my computer for CDs & MP3s files .. I don't find directionality to be that big an issue .. sound especially good right in front, but also sound fine when away from them. Plenty of clean bass. Sound checked the bass with the CD "Heartland: An Appalachian Anthology" & Edgar Meyer's (standup acoustic) bass just sounds great. Running the woofer at less than half is plenty. Trebles are great .. you can hear the finger board action on the guitars and mandolins. The separate control for volumen / mute is a good / bad thing .. one more wire to mess with, but is nice to have the controls closer than speaker. The mute feature is good to have also ( didnt figure Id use it, but comes in very handy when you have to answer the phone etc.. ) Speakers are taller than I'd like ( had to raise a book shelf to get them in there ) .. All in all though, I like this system ..

Summary: AAAH!! ONE FOOT MONSOON!!!
Review: PERFECT NAME FOR THIS UNIT. NOT AS TALL AS A MONSOON, BUT DEFINATELY AS HIGH. THERE WAS A BLOCK PARTY GOING ON ACROSS THE STREET WHEN I TESTED THESE. I HOPE I DID'NT DISTURB THEM =). SUPER LOUD, AND SUPER CRISP. THEY LOOK LIKE HOOD ORNAMENTS FOR THE BATMOBILE, WHICH MAKES THEM EVEN MORE APPEALING. GOOD LOOKS AND HIGH QUALITY. BY THE WAY, THAT WAS JUST FROM PLUGGING IT INTO A LAPTOP, COOL, HUH? A 7 STAR BUY.
