Rating: Summary: I was actually dissapointed with this system Review: I was actually disappointed with this system. Being a music student I'm very picky about sound. I have several complaints, but first lets start off with the good. The 150 watt subwoofer is exceptional and will completely blow your mind if not your windows. There was no disappointment there. Okay, onto the bad. The two satellite speakers hissed which became very annoying. You could hear it a good 10 feet away even with music playing loudly. The highs were extremely piercing and hard on the ears even with the treble turned all the way down. My next major complaint is that it didn't treat all styles of music equally. I listen to a variety of music and believe me I tried em all. It distorted fairly easy on music styles with a lot of highs such classical music and movie soundtracks. If you're a piano fan....forget it, piano sounds terrible on this system. It sounds like a cheap electronic keyboard with the volume turned all the way up. Okay, maybe not that bad but you get the idea. My final complaint is the placement of the treble and bass controls on the subwoofer. It is very inconvenient to reach under your desk to get at them. Anyhow, I returned the megaworks and went out and bought the Creative T5400 5.1 system for $100 at Comp USA(I might be wrong but I believe the cambridge megaworks was co-designed by creative). While it doesn't have the power of the megaworks there is no speaker hiss, All music styles sound good, it works equally well with games and movies, and its very comfortable to listen too even at higher volumes. The subwoofer isn't as impressive but it does just fine and compliments the speakers very well. The T5400 also has tweeters on the 3 front speakers, a very nice feature. Frankly I would suggest you get a 5.1 system because there isn't a 2.1 system out there that really sounds good and you can get them for about the same price or a little more. I was concerned about space as you might be but its worth it and you'll find the space. The creative system I bought is easy to mount on the wall. Cambridge just discontinued their only good 5.1 PC system which is to bad. My brother has it and it is a very, very good system. Why do they do that? They have something good and they get rid of it. Anyhow good luck! Checkout the creative systems you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Scratchy noise, bad connections, Excellent sound but BEWARE Review: If you are considering the purchase of the Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks 210D (they sell factory direct on Ebay now), please be aware that these are now only available as second hand and reconditioned speakers. In 2001 I bought a set of these (used/recon) speakers factory direct ebay. They have to be the best sounding multimedia speakers I've ever heard, even connecting to my new Sony flatscreen tv, WOW! But please BEWARE!!!... I firmly believe they have a serious flaw with the powered subwoofer inputs. The input connections don't last more than a year. Scratchy noises are consistent. I purchased another set of these speakers after the first set went bad. AGAIN, THE CONNECTIONS GO BAD AFTER A YEAR!!! I don't move them or crank the sound up like a high schooler. I spent $180.00 twice and I'm through with Cambridge SoundWorks. Excellent sounding speakers, but substandard quality and poor reliability. I've left similar message boards and have received the same feedback from others on this model. I would NOT recommend spending the money for a years use.
Rating: Summary: These are the best PC speakers I have ever heard! Review: If you are serious about listening to music on your PC- these babies will blow you away. I work in a small office, and am only allowed to play these at significant volume when everyone has gone home for the day- and on Friday afternoons, I let them crank. But even at low volumes, they sound awesome. I have a second set that I use on my TV in my bedroom- they are very easy to set up, and plug into the headphone jack. It's not surround sound, but it's amazing how much better my TV sounds with these speakers.
Rating: Summary: wow Review: Just got these unpacked and set up - and all I can say is Wow!. Be prepared to be wowed. Have not heard any multimedia speakers that sound this good. A bit more expensive than others- but think they are worth it. Only drawback was I wish they came in white too.
Rating: Summary: Substantial subwoofer - awesome bass Review: The sub on this system is home theater quality. Not one that you usually find on PC speakers. Cambridge also makes a full line of home theater speakers, so they must have just adapted the Megaworks sub. This system is truly audiophile quality. Not to be found in the big box stores. this is a specialty item for a discerning listener. guarantee that your favorite music will sound that much better on these speakers.
Rating: Summary: Best I have ever heard Review: These PC speakers rock. be good to yourself, and throw away your wimpy pc speakers that came with your PC package. If you are serious abour listening to music on your PC, I don't think there is a more serious system out there. very easy to set up, looks great, and is very substantial. I don't really listen to my home stereo since I got these. May get rid of that too!
