Summary: Believe all the hype
Review: After reading the other reviews, I thought "how can megaworks be that good." but it is, afraid to admit it. I bought one from one of the Cambridge stores on Friday - and it never got a rest all weekend. I have tried to find something that doesn't sound rich and good on this system - even my kids disney songs sound better (and I've heard each of them 1000 times) - but I swear I am hearing them for the first time. They are that fresh sounding with these speakers. I think they may also be some of the best looking computer speakers out there. A bit of style- but not space age. But for sound this good, they could be neon yellow and I'd still use them. nuff said.

Summary: THE ONLY SYSTEM YOU'LL EVER NEED
Review: AS A HAPPY MEGAWORKS 210D OWNER, I AM HARD PRESSED TO BELIEVE ANYTHING NEGATIVE WITH THIS PRODUCT. THOUGH PREVIOUS REVIEWS POINT TO PROBLEMS WITH THE INPUTS BREAKING, I FIND IT CURIOUS THAT THE SUB WOULD BREAK TWICE. MOREOVER, IT'S OFTEN FUNNY HOW MOST OF THE TIME, THE PARTS THAT BREAK ARE THOSE TOUCHED BY THE USER. THIS IS A VERY NICE PRODUCT AND IF YOU FIND IT BREAKING LIKE THAT PERHAPS YOU SHOULD RETURN THE SYSTEM AND INVEST IN A BABY RATTLE.

Review: Don't waste your time with the other computer speakers out there. I have owned five or six sets over the last 5 years - but nothing comes close to these. very powerful. very rich sound.

Summary: Now I can finally give my headphones a well-deserved rest!
Review: For two years now, I've had a fairly inexpensive - and not very good - set of self-powered speakers for use in my home office. In fact, they were SO "not very good" that most of my office listening for the last year has been by way of my headphones.

The headphones will continue to get their fair share of use for evening/night-time listening, to keep the rest of the family in peace and quiet, while I listen to music both for enjoyment and for writing music reviews. But everything else about my music listening has changed, with the Christmas arrival of this Cambridge MegaWorks 210D self-powered system. As good as my "big" stereo system is, I'll no longer "be forced" to leave my office and go downstairs just to achieve good sound quality: This Cambridge system is as good as it gets for self-powered systems.

I never thought I'd see myself write such words, though. I've been a "Bose man" for more than a quarter-century now: My main system has high-end Bose speakers, both of our cars have high-end Bose systems, and the headphones which I've been using are the excellent Bose Triports. It is Bose's loss - and Cambridge's gain - that, when I went shopping for a new high-end self-powered system for my office, this MegaWorks system was the finest I could find.

I'm a serious music listener. And these are serious speakers, with an 8" subwoofer, wide-range 3.5" satellite speakers, and 270 watts of amplifier power. In the few days available since these arrived and were set up, I've listened to a wide range of music (mostly classical, but also some jazz, "newgrass" fusion and vocals). I'm most impressed with the subwoofer's ability to handle 32' organ stops; I'm a pipe organ junkie, and it is "de rigour" that a system be able to cope with such demands without low-frequency distortion. Another test that these speakers pass with flying colors is solo keyboard music; everything sounds natural and unforced, and, more importantly, musical. Not even a hint yet of "listener fatigue," either, despite extended listening to this wide range of music. The system even comes with a nice wired remote for controlling the volume. (It would be even nicer, had this remote also provided a "power on/off" function; one needs to reach down and behind the subwoofer for the power switch. But maybe that doesn't really matter. I've yet to turn the system off.)

These speakers get my highest recommendation, particularly to other classical music listeners who want "musical" full-range speakers and who need to have a compact system where the speakers are integrated with their own amplification system. I don't imagine that listeners to other musical genres will be disappointed either: If you are one who wants room-shaking bass, it's there for the asking.

Summary: You WILL like these
Review: I am not a professional reviewer so this is my first but these speakers are SO awesome. You will love them. I hooked them up to my Mac and they are the loudest speakers I have ever had. They are accurate as well. You will like them.

Summary: Great, powerful system.
Review: I didn't realize multimedia speakers could sound this good. I got the MegaTheater 210 for my son and attached it to his PC and let me tell you, I haven't been happier. Sonically they are amazing. But they're also great from a style perspective - nice looking, but small enough not to take up too much space. The only problem is that sometimes they're too loud and I can't get any peace!!!!

Summary: Speaker envy
Review: I have an older version of this speaker- that I bought years ago. The Microworks from Cambridge used to be their top of the line PC speaker. I was always showing it off to friends, playing music on my PC offensively loud - thinking I was "it". Until my buddy Pete brought me over to his office to show off his new Megaworks. Have to say the sound is just as good as Microworks- maybe slightly better, but the style is much cooler. Looks like they had a bit of a redesign. Hoping I can drop enough hints to the little woman to get me these for Christmas. honest, I've been really good this year:)!

Summary: Scratchy noise, bad connections, Excellent sound but BEWARE
Review: I was actually disappointed with this system. Being a music student I'm very picky about sound. I have several complaints, but first lets start off with the good. The 150 watt subwoofer is exceptional and will completely blow your mind if not your windows. There was no disappointment there.

Okay, onto the bad. The two satellite speakers hissed which became very annoying. You could hear it a good 10 feet away even with music playing loudly. The highs were extremely piercing and hard on the ears even with the treble turned all the way down. My next major complaint is that it didn't treat all styles of music equally. I listen to a variety of music and believe me I tried em all. It distorted fairly easy on music styles with a lot of highs such classical music and movie soundtracks. If you're a piano fan....forget it, piano sounds terrible on this system. It sounds like a cheap electronic keyboard with the volume turned all the way up. Okay, maybe not that bad but you get the idea. My final complaint is the placement of the treble and bass controls on the subwoofer. It is very inconvenient to reach under your desk to get at them.

Anyhow, I returned the megaworks and went out and bought the Creative T5400 5.1 system for $100 at Comp USA(I might be wrong but I believe the cambridge megaworks was co-designed by creative). While it doesn't have the power of the megaworks there is no speaker hiss, All music styles sound good, it works equally well with games and movies, and its very comfortable to listen too even at higher volumes. The subwoofer isn't as impressive but it does just fine and compliments the speakers very well. The T5400 also has tweeters on the 3 front speakers, a very nice feature.

Frankly I would suggest you get a 5.1 system because there isn't a 2.1 system out there that really sounds good and you can get them for about the same price or a little more. I was concerned about space as you might be but its worth it and you'll find the space. The creative system I bought is easy to mount on the wall. Cambridge just discontinued their only good 5.1 PC system which is to bad. My brother has it and it is a very, very good system. Why do they do that? They have something good and they get rid of it. Anyhow good luck! Checkout the creative systems you won't be disappointed.
