Summary: great value but one flaw
Review: I have been using it on my PC for 2 years now. This made-in-China product proved to be very reliable. It sounds great with games and CD audio. It sounds A LOT better than those mini 2 speakers. For just $40, I don't see why we should use the cheapy mini speakers. My only complain is the volume distortion. If I push the volume higher than 5 using the build-in volume control, the speakers starts to have some background noise.

Summary: Superb Secondary System
Review: I have these speakers in my kitchen hooked up to an old Sony Walkman CD player (the one that weighs about a pound and has a remote control). It sounds fantastic. I listen to a range of music from Kate Bush to Mozart's Requiem to Squirrel Nut Zippers and they all sound amazingly good. I don;t think you're going to find anything in speakers anywhere near this price that will compare. Placement of the woofer is important, and don;t be afraid to LOWER the woofer output a bit, especially at louder volumes. As I have this in my kitchen it is used for background music, but I have played them loud enough to really fill the room. I have another set hooked to my computer and again, abit of tuning makes a world of difference.

Summary: Great sound, little distortion
Review: I love these speakers. They have a very nice low freq. response, but there is ONE problem. It resonates at a wide range of bass frequencies, and has bad port air turbulance. Something that should be fixed in the next model. It is annoying when the speaker distorts though. But still a good system!

Summary: The old saying goes, you get what you pay for...
Review: I ordered this speaker system to replace a terrible pair that came with my computer. I figured anything would be better. Well, these are better sounding, but just added new problems. First off,I knew these would not be audiophile quality, but the first MP3 I put on to test them, showed the subwoofer can not handle much bass. It was popping with the volume low. Terrible. The other problem I had,is the volume control. I can deal with the stupid design, but it has a short in it,and I have to keep wiggling it to get sound from both satellites. If you are looking for just a cheap pair of speakers, these are the ones to get. For the price I paid,it is not really worth the time and effort to mail em back,etc.. I'll just have to deal with new problems after dealing with the old ones.. I'd shop around.

Summary: surpisingly very good!!
Review: I took a chance on these speakers after my aiwa boom box was stolen out of my friends car in the City a few weeks ago. These speakers hooked up to my disc man sound better than the boom box! I was estatic! They could handle all types of music I threw at them, from heavy metal to samba to classical to popular. The bass level is very sensitive and clear, doesnt distort the sound, and I got a really good volume out of the system. These are not just computer add-ons - these are great speakers at a really great price!

Summary: PCworks - 3 piece speakersystem
Review: I'm an IT professional, and an audio Freak. For the record, that's Freak with a capitol F. When Spec'ing out My organization's standardized desktops, I couldn't help cringing when our "Vendor Direct" systems came with Garbage speakers, for at extra cost. Endusers normally feel "neglected" when the installers drop these embarassments onto the desk...... For a little bit more, the PCWorks sound the way music was supposed to sound at low to moderate volumes. The endusers love them, and that keeps them off my back

Summary: Great set of speakers.
Review: I'm no audiophile. Increasingly, my music is stored in the form of 160 kHz mp3's so I can take it with me or put it in very large playlists on my computer. That implies some small amount of loss of sound quality. I'm the kind of guy who's happy to live with that.

That having been said, these speakers are ideal for the purpose. After side-by-side comparing them at a store with several other more mainstream brands, I was impressed at the amount of what those audiophile glossies call 'presence', especially at the low volumes appropriate for apartment dwelling. Beat the Altec and Labtec speakers hollow - dunno why, particularly. A Bose system was a little better - and about 10 times the price.

The large 'subwoofer' only gets frequencies that your brain's spatial localization system (mediated by the lateral lemniscus -> superior olivary nucleus pathways, if there are any neuroscientists reading this) isn't equipped to deal with. So set it under your desk, put the little 2 inch cubes on your desk (or hang em from something with the included 2-sided tape, each weighs about an oz.) and get ready for great sound at a great price! I originally bought a set for my computer but went ahead and bought extra sets for every room in my home, including the bathroom, so I can have 24-hour music now if I want. The price is right to do that!

Summary: Excellent "Value" Speakers
Review: I've had the same thoughts as most of the other reviewers. These speakers really are outstanding for the price. I have had no trouble with them. They are silent when not in use and look great too.

You can't go wrong with these.

Summary: Good Bang For The Buck
Review: Let me preface this review: These speakers are not for the audiophile. If you want high end sound, completely distortion free at full volume, with a treble that can call in the dogs from a mile away and a bass that can rattle cracks in your house's foundation these are NOT the speakers for you.

But if you don't want to spend a lot of money and you still want reasonable quality, these speakers are a good buy. Given the price of these speakers, I must say I was amazed at the sheer clarity of the sound. I tested them with my car CD player and they played everything from classical Beethoven to classic rock with alaming precision. They worked equally well on my computer for CDs, MP3s, and DVDs. The bass was separately adjustable--a plus at this price range--and the apparatus was easy to set up.

I did not experience audible hiss that was noted by some of the reviewers, but at higher end of the volume setting the higher sounds tended to fray and the bass became a little muddy. No matter. This is not the speaker set up for a large room or a home theater. These are personal speakers that will function best in a small room or office and they pack more than enough punch for this venue.

My five star rating reflects the quality of the product given its price. I have listened to other speakers by Boston Acoustics, Altec Lansing, and Yamaha that were bought for almost double this price that did not sound as good as these. Once again, this is not audiophile sound, but who can expect that in this price range? I highly recommend them for the basic user who does not want to pay a premium for premium sound.
