Rating: Summary: I need people to leave so I can CRANK IT Review: I thought that when I plugged them in that it was going to be all flimsy due to the short wires. But, the low bass and sound output deafened my Siamese cat .... Now I can rock the dorm with this hunk of wood. A whole lot of Uuummphhh for the [price] ... -- A must buy.
Rating: Summary: Great system with surprising sound Review: I was convinced to purchase this speaker system simply because of the outstanding reviews that it got. I ordered the product from Amazon and have been highly pleased. I love the separate bass-level knob and the headphone jack (since I share a room). I still have yet to here distortion from these babies. The bass is deep, rich, and strong. The satellite speakers handle well even at high volumes and are very clear--I hear things I didn't before. This is a very good purchase and I don't think it will be regretted. My one wish for this product would be a treble-level knob to be able to surpress the treble if I wish, but I am very happy with them none-the-less.

Rating: Summary: Great Sound Review: I would not normally have purchased $99 speakers for my computer. My first thought was to spend half that. But in using a $100 gift certificate for Amazon.com, I only paid for s/h. I am glad I ordered this set. The sound is great. The trebles and midrange are brilliant and the base is robust. The two sattelite speakers are small with the volume & power controls as well as a headphone jack located on the front of the right speaker. I was able to put the 3rd base unit under my desk. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't mind spending the extra money.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Bass! Review: I'd had Yamaha computer speakers for years, and I'd always liked their sound -- sometimes even more than my big stereo speakers. Yamaha speakers seem to have a very "musical" quality to them, above the normal frequency response ratings and so forth.Lately, though, I'd been feeling the need for more bass after listening to some pipe organ music and some Drum N Bass music, so I decided to get a system with a subwoofer. The first place I looked was on Amazon, and after searching on Yamaha, I found this 3-piece system. Practically every review was positive, so I decided, what the heck, I'll get these. These speakers arrived two days ago, and I've been listening to all my music over again to hear the bass that I'd been missing all this time. The bass response from the subwoofer is truly earth-shaking -- you really feel it in your stomach if you turn up the volume. Plus, the satellite speakers are as musical sounding as I've come to expect from Yamaha, so I'm really happy.

Rating: Summary: Good boom for your buck Review: I'm very pleased with this system: Setup. It was easy, taking just a few minutes. All plug-ins were logical and snapped in crisply. Sound. The bass is extraordinary. Besides being powerful, it's also very clean. This system does not have the vibrating, distortion-producing sound of many subwoofers--it is quite smooth. The highs are crisp. This Yamaha outperforms the Sony CMT-CP11 $300 stereo I just sold. Features. Having a headphone jack up front is helpful. Separate volume knobs for the woofer and satellites is nice, and seems mandatory, but many lesser system don't separate them! Price. Unless you need 4.1/5.1 sound for movies (or some live albums and classical music), this system is more than adequate for computer sound, even compared to systems that are twice as expensive. Well done, Yamaha.
Rating: Summary: A purchase you'll never regret Review: I've owned these speakers since last year, and I'm as awestruck today as I was when I first brought them home. I had been waffling on new speakers for a long time -- you know, they're not a necessity, should I indulge myself, etc.. All this agonizing despite the fact that I store most of my music (about 10 gigabytes) on the computer. Finally, I stumbled into a computer store with a speaker display that included these Yamahas, and my inner debate ended instantly. I couldn't even wait to go home and order them online ... I had to have these things hooked up that day. I've been in sonic heaven ever since. The low end in this subwoofer is beyond merely powerful, beyond merely fat, beyond merely distortion-free. (Your ears will buckle before these speakers ever will.) The low end is absolutely beautiful: sweet, tight, smooth (geez, I don't mean this to sound erotic), and, as many have pointed out, musical. I guarantee that any discriminating listener will find these speakers revelatory--you'll hear things in your music that you never heard before. I keep the volume knob on the subwoofer set to 6.5 (like 1:30 on a clock face) for a window-rattling, gut-clutching experience. Turning it up farther would make me fear for the structural stability of my home. My neighbors hate me, but I can't stop. My computer is now my main hi-fi system, despite owning a pair of JBL 4312 studio monitors in the other room. Even they don't match the excitement and transparency of these puppies. Remarkably, these speakers deliver at any volume, without losing warmth or depth even when played whisper-soft. I will note that the high end isn't as crisp and glittery as I like. But a little tweaking of the Winamp equalizer when playing MP3s solves that insufficiency. And my discriminating friends think I overdo it on the high end, so you might find the Yahamas perfect without any EQ treatment. I'd be thrilled with this purchase if it cost twice as much. (In fact, I did pay 50 percent more than the price here at Amazon.) My acquaintances are gradually upgrading their computer sound, and I am absolutely forbidding them to get any other speakers. I listened to them all during a loooong shopping period, and nothing in this world compares to these Yamahas. I hope I've made it clear that I rather like these speakers . They have thoroughly distracted me for months now! I get far more pleasure out of my music collection, which covers a global variety of genres, than I did before. They make average music sound good, and good music sound extraordinary. Don't cut corners on your computer-speaker decision. These might cost twice as much as some other sets you're considering. But you will love them forever, and you'll love your music even more than you already do.
Rating: Summary: Nice sound, decent price Review: I've owned this speaker system for a couple of years now, and it's been great. Very nice sound, reliable, and it puts out plenty of volume for just about any reasonable person. It was on my computer, but it has now been moved to my bedroom where it was coupled with a radio and a old portable CD player to become my bedroom stereo. Maybe someday it will go back to the computer, but coupled with an old Sony Discman, it is a much better sounding stereo than the [other]mini-systems that I've been shopping.
