Rating: Summary: AMAZING!! Review: I just received these speakers and couldn't wait to hook them up. I had heard them at a local electronics store and they sounded great there and was wondering if they would sound as good at my home. WOW is all I can say. These speakers are incredable. I pumped the bass and NO distortion! I did get a phone call from my neighbor though asking me to turn the bass down. Even at low volume the bass is powerful and the mid-high range is clear and crisp. I highly recommend these speakers to any music lover.
Rating: Summary: Every bit as good as they say! Review: I listened to a bunch of under 100 systems. For all of them my feeling was, "Well, it is just for a computer, after all." But they were naggingly disappointing, even those with surprisingly good reviews. Based on reviews for the Yamaha, I bought it. WOW! This is a great system. Deep, RICH base, warm midrange, slightly diminished but pleasant highs. Input is through a stereo miniplug on the right satallite speaker, which has also volume, on/off controls and a headphone jack receptacle. A round, multi-pin unique cable runs from the right speaker to the powered subwoofer (needed to provide volume/on/off controls), and a standard RCA cable runs from the subwoofer to the left speaker. The unique right speaker cable means you won't find any extension cables for it, and the subwoofer will need to be within 6 feet of it. Otherwise, you can use extension cables gallore. If this system was just for the computer, it would be a waste. But I plugged in a small boom box (output from boombox headphone jack to second miniplug iinput on right speaker) and I can listen to the radio/CD/tape from the boombox (my most common use) or from computer input at the same time. It's great! This system can be used with ANY source that can be put into a ministereo plug. Finally, you don't have to play this system loud. I mostly play it very low, and it still sounds great.
Rating: Summary: YAMAHA SPEAKER YSTMS50 Review: I NEVER KNEW THAT SOUNDS FROM A PC COULD BE SO CLEAN, CLEAR, AND DYNAMIC. FOR THE PEOPLE CONSIDERING PURCHASING A SPEAKER SYSTEM, IT WOULD BE IN YOUR BEST INTEREST TO CONSIDER THIS UNIT. FOR LESS THAN 90.00 YOU WILL GET THE BEST FOR YOUR INVESTMENT. IT WAS A PLEASURE TO DEAL WITH AMAZON.COM.
Rating: Summary: too good for a computer Review: I purchased these speakers for computer use, but the sound quality, and depth coupled with power output led me to use them with portable cd/md players in my office. The sound is awesome!
Rating: Summary: Good Value, Really Nice Looking Review: I purchased these speakers to replace my Altec-Lansing ADA-880 speakers that were fried by a lightning strike/power surge. I chose these speakers because they do not look stupid, like so many of the new speakers being sold. These are very nice looking speakers. They are not some goofy space-man looking piece of crap. They will work great with your computer, or any other audio device with an 1/8th inch stereo plug. They produce respectable sound, and a fair amount of bass. If you like TONS of bass, that you can feel thumping in your chest, (like the exceptional ADA-880 speakers that are no longer available,) you will be a little disappointed. I would have rated them a 5 if they produced more bass.
Rating: Summary: Price Not Exact Review: I read a review of this item at CNET.com about your total price of $69.99 including shipping but I am yet to see one in this website or that of egghead.com.
Rating: Summary: FOR GREAT SOUND: highly, highly, highly recommended Review: I recently upgraded my stock Hewlett Packard Pavillion 9895 speakers to the Yamaha YSTMS50W 80-Watt 3-Piece Subwoofer/Satellite Computer Speakers. First and foremost, let me tell you one thing: wow, and I really mean WOW, what a great set of computer speakers! Understand: you don't get full blown surround sound with these speakers -- few PC applications necessitate this type of audio quality anyway. But unlike the higher end 5.1 and 6.1 speakers on the market today, these speakers will, out of the box, work with and optimize the performance of most stock sound cards. And this is important if you want to get superior performance at a reasonable cost. My only complaint (and it is an exeedingly *small* one) is that the audio controls are split between one satellite speaker (volume and on/off) and the sub woofer (base volume) -- it would be more convenient to have all audio controls on one unit (i.e. on a satellite speaker). But I can more than live with this almost negligible inconvenience to get the type of sound that these speakers deliver for the price. Net/net: 1) Awesome (I would even say unsurpassed) sound quality to cost ratio 2) Extremely easy set-up (took me less than 10 minutes -- and this included carrying the box up the stairs to my PC room) 3) Wished the connecting wires were longer (the ones that came with my unit restrict satellite speaker placement to within 5 feet of the sub-woofer) 4) Needs some industrial design tweaks (i.e. audio controls should all be in one place) 5) Rich base, sweet high-ends, and earth shaking volume for you hard rockers or gamers 6) MUST HAVE FOR ANY AUDIOPHILE WHO IS ON A BUDGET
