Rating: Summary: There speakers are EXACTLY what I wanted! Review: I've had these speakers for about a week now and have to say I'm totally impressed. They more than adequately fill my home office. When looking at reviews from different sources I noticed that some weren't happy with the sound. I need to add that having a reasonable sound card is important. If you hook these (or any speakers) up to an onboard sound connection on your motherboard you will be disappointed. I was reasonably happy with using just a Soundblaster Live card and yesterday I upgraded to a Soundblaster 5.1. I won't be making any other mods to my pc for improving sound quality. On a scale of 1 to 10 these speakers perform at a 10 for all the music I listen to and games that I play. I couldn't be happier and highly endorse these speakers!!
Rating: Summary: Once more I got to come back and stick up for these... Review: Let's get started. How the heck can you price these speakers at $30 or $50!? Speakers in the $50 and less price range distort, or produce crappy sound and dont give you the things the Mediamates do. With the mediamates you dont only get great spacious sound, you also get GREAT quality, nice design, up to 2 mixed sources and also the name Bose on your desktop. These speaker compare with the ones that used to be the best 2.1 speakers, the Klipsch Promedia 2.1(The Bose Companion 3 took its place). So if they have similar sound to those(in some cases better), then you aren't getting bad stuff and they are woth every cent. I see no other speakers priced LESS tha this that sound better... they will either crack, distort, sound "fake" or just wont go loud enough. 2.1 setups under $100 just suck completely... they have muddy bass. Dont listen to the ones trying to damage a great company's reputation. What the other user means by "REAL audiophiles" are crazy losers in ound that think as long as you got Universe Shaking bass you got great sound. You know what? Sound is not only about Bass? You need to hear it lifelike, clear and spacious.. of course with a lot of bass too, and that is what Bose gives you. With the mediamates dont expect room shakin bass, but expect desk-shaking bass. Bose makes research.. they take years to build their products. The result is a high quality durable product, with great lifelike sound and great customer support. If you think Bose is mediocre audio quality.. you need to fix your ears and your brain cause they arent working. Go to a Bose Store and youll change your view completely.. then "REAL audiphiles" will seem like the most stupid people in the world. Remember Great Sound must be expensive.. Bose isn't THX Certified.. and it isn't because it kicks THX's ass.*View on them changed, they are high quality and all but yes they are overprices.. you can get a 2.1 setup for $100-$125 resulting in more bass and higher quality sound. Go with Klipsch ProMedia 2.1*
Rating: Summary: Vastly overrated Review: Ok, I'll be honest. This is a decent set of 2.0 speakers (no subwoofer), and would be a good buy if they sold for $29.95 (or even $49.95). But they don't. And that's the problem. For $100 there are MUCH better products on the market. (I've done A/B comparisons with most of them, so I'm not just blowing smoke). Yes, most of them are 2.1 systems and come with a subwoofer. But a decent 2.1 system is no harder to set up than these speakers, and the sub - which just sits on the floor under the computer desk - is a non-issue. There are plenty of people who are happy to pay what Bose is asking for these speakers, and will never realize they're paying $50 just for the Bose brand. (Which is pretty funny because when you talk to REAL audiophiles, the Bose brand stands for overpriced products, lots of hype, tons of marketing money, and mediocre audio quality - across the board).
