Rating: Summary: HUH??? What???? Review: Altec-Lansing has some great computer speaker set-ups, this however isn't one of them. :( The sound is muddy as all get out. Ran Janes F-18, Nascar Racing 2002, Medal of Honor:Allied Assault on a 128 bit SB game sound card and was terrible....
Rating: Summary: great ... for me anyway... Review: Confession: shot a lot of trap in my day and the hearing ain't great. And I think the speakers in my Pontiac are just fine too... This is just what I like. It ain't fancy and can't rattle the pictures off the wall. But it is clean and crisp to my ear and I prefer a middle speaker to a floor shaking rumble. This is just fine for me. Am sure there are audiophiles cursing at the moment but I couldn't see the reason for my college roomates 5' high speakers and custom turntable and amp. Sorry guys but this is great for me.
Rating: Summary: nice for the price Review: Great speakers for those on a budget. I had the ... speakers that came with my system and I was looking for something nice that was under [budget]. I really love the volume control on the subwoofer. The satellites are low and about 3 inches wide so I don't have to worry about constantly knocking them over. The only drawback is the fact that they don't have a headphone jack. Other than that, these are great speakers.
Rating: Summary: Good speakers at a low price Review: I am an audiophile with limited funds, so I have to figure out how to get good sound for a low price. When I finally realized good computer audio is within my price range, I decided to throw out my 2 HP/Polkaudio speakers, and find some good speakers, and especially a sub to make the most out of my games and music. Well, at the time, I only had twenty bucks to spend. So I went all over town looking for a decent 2.1 system in my price range. Well low and behold Sams is having a special on Altec Lansing's 2.1 system for half it's normal price. So knowing Altec Lansing's reputation, I grabbed them. Well trust me, they are great. With a decent sound card, they are crisp, clean, and have the sub has pleanty of bass for a 5.25 driver with only 10 watts. They go pretty loud before destortion kicks in, but at loud volumes and high bass audio, the sub quiets, and then reloudens when the bass tones down. That's probably the worse thing about this system. As far as tone controls, I think all sound card software, and windows has built in equalizer. My integrated 5.1 sound card on my new comp has software with a 10 band EQ, so who needs them on the speakers? Another bad thing about these speakers is that they dont have any rubber feet, so they slide around on your desk when you pull a wire or adjust the volume. All in all, a good buy for the price if you want a COMPUTER SYSTEM. If this is where you watch DVDs and play music from all the time, get something better. But for those of us on a budget, and have real external stereos, these are great. Also, I plugged mine into the srge protector my comp is on, so when I turn it off, it turns off the speakers, and there is no hiss. I don't what the other people are doing wrong. Good Luck!
Rating: Summary: 3 years no problems - then Boom.. dead Review: I am now in the market for a new speaker system, my AVS500 system having just shorted out. This is a decent, and only decent 5 speaker system. it's cheap, it works well while it works, and when something stops working its trash, there are no replacements availible should the power supply or the subwoofer or satillites fail. be warned, this is not the speaker system you should expect to live longer than 3 or so years, even with gentle care, rather is a decent budget 5.1 to get you by for now.. and probably over-priced at that.

Rating: Summary: Pretty good little set-up Review: I bought these speakers not expecting much-- what can you expect in the sub $50 market? However, I was pleasantly surprised when I got them. The set up was relatively easy, although they could have come with better instructions. The color coded jacks were self explanatory, though. The sound quality was much above par. The bass is deep and rich, and the highs are crisp. I would recommend this set to anyone who wants good speakers, but doesn't have much to spend on them.
Rating: Summary: Excellent value speakers Review: I bought these speakers to finally give my drab 2-speaker tin can-sound the boot and get some real power. Now the AVS300 is considered a starter 3-piece system, but what a starter system it sure is! I watched Top Gun and the jet sounds were rumbling all over the living room, and when I played Starcraft and a siege tank blew something up, my nephew upstairs thought there was a tremor. For starters, this is one of the more costly models, but I'm not regretting the purchase. It's an awesome system and I still love it.
Rating: Summary: Great speakers for the price! Review: I bought these to view my dvd's on the computer. My computer is in a small room, so this system is perfect! They were a snap to set up, a 10 year old could do it. I'm sure there are better systems out there, but not at this price! I recommend!
