Review: I recently baught an Altec Lansing 2.1 system for my Girlfriend for $50.00 and was blown away at the quality - really outstanding. I needed a 2.0 system for my office as I have no good place for a subwoofer and decided to stick with what has been an impressive brand. I was sad to see that AL has stumbled badly with these speakers - bass close to zero. In order to keep these sounding at all passable I am forced to use really exaggerated EQ settings within iTunes. Very dissapointed.

Summary: Just perfect for what I needed
Review: I wanted a pair of speakers for my desk at work. I didn't want something that had heavier bass (though I love bass, I keep that for my home listening). I just wanted relatively inexpensive speakers that had a crisp sound and decent bass. I also wanted them to look good.These speakers fit the bill! They sound great and I can listen to music at low volumes at work without disturbing others around me. Nice way to take the edge off a stressful day. They are a bit large but it didn't make any difference to me. I had plenty of room on my desk for them on each sides of the dual monitors I have setup. I am also impressed with their overall look, black and silver fits right in with my black monitors and Aluminum PB G4. Overall, I highly recommend if you are looking for a good deal on speakers that sound excellent but aren't meant to rock the house. I listen to mostly downtempo, trip hop music as well as some acoustic latin music at work and it sounds wonderful!

Summary: Excellent 2.0 speakers
Review: I wanted a set of 2.0 speaker system for my dad. He does not require the head pounding bass of the Altec Lansing 221 2.1 speakers that I have. My main problem is that most 2.0 speaker systems are just plain awful. They usually have little or no bass and terrible highs. Don't even mention about to me about clarity. My problem was solved when with the purchase of the Altec Lansing 220. This thing not only looks good, but is the best 2.0 speaker system I've ever heard in this price range. Excellent lows and highs for audiophile critics. Can play any music from hip hop to classical with ease. Big volume control and a headphone jack tops it all off.

Summary: Sounds like a cardboard box
Review: Just got these and set them up. Very dissappointed. I bought them because my old cheap-o Koss speakers were dying. I never thought the Koss sounded particularly good, but these are much worse. I'm not an audiophile - not picky at all... My goal was just to find something affordable and decent-sounding for playing trance MP3s in the background while I work. These are not what I was looking for. The stereo imaging is good, but that's the only good thing I can say about them. The highs aren't crisp at all, and the bass "thumps" - but not in a good way. It'd hard to describe, but to me it sounds like a cardboard box. Not enjoyable, and quite distracting.

Summary: They're ...Speakers
Review: Really, my title says it all, but aside from the usual muddy, muffled sound quality common among cheap pc speakers, and that these do indeed share (I wasn't expecting anything more), at least Altec-Lansing didn't skimp on the materials. The construction seems very solid with metal speaker grills and pretty weighty bases. I also really appreciate the headphone jack so I no longer have to reach behind my pc to plug in headphones. The one feature I really like though, is the big volume knob--this is more important than you might think.

--odd/inconvenient shape I recently wanted some computer speakers on the cheaper end that would provide decent quality audio. Not a ridiculous request. I purchased these speakers from Altec Lansing because they were cheap ($25) and I have been very impressed by A.L. product quality in the past. I was extremely disappointed. There is little to no bass, no high trebles, and only muffled mids. Plus, the maximum volume is very weak. My laptop speakers (Armada E500) reach about the same volume as the A.L. speakers. Also, the shape is not very functional...they tip easily because they are supported by thin, light metal stands. Overall, I would highly discourage the purchase of these. Spend a few more bucks if you are gonna go with Altec Lansing.

Review: These speakers are very good for treble and higher pitched sounds. As you can probably guess, from the other reviews and because it doesn't come with a subwoofer, the bass isn't great. I am not a big subwoofer person myself, and the bass is fine for me. If you want more bass for less money, get speakers that come with a subwoofer. The other thing that somewhat surprised me was the size. I didn't pay attention to the stats and just looked at the pictures. These things are 9.25" high with the stand, and 4.25" wide. Other than this, I am very impressed with these speakers. The power, volume control, and headphone output on the right speaker are very handy. These are more than qualified for my movie playing, gaming, and music listening needs.

Summary: Most standard computer speakers sound better
Review: These speakers don't cost much, but they are still very overpriced. For what you pay, you should at least get a small sub, and more then 5 watts rms. My friend has a pair of these speakers and they sound awful. No bass and no highs. There's a little bit of midrange sound, but that's about it. Also, these things are huge. Standard 2.0 computer speakers that you get with any computer purchase are far smaller then these, and most sound better. Save your money and spend a few dollars more on a decent 2.1 system. You'll be glad you did.
