Summary: Great sound, Steep Price
Review: I am very happy with the Klipsch Promedia 2.1. I read as many reviews as I could before purchasing, considering the GMX A-2.1 among others. I really had Klipsch in mind because of their track record and the raving reviews. It definitely performs and has plenty of power (much to spare). I cannot speak so much to the quality because I do not have a trained ear for intense listening. All I can say is that it sounded way better than my old speakers ($$ computer show piece of junk). I also own the Logitech z-560 THX 4.1 system for my computer at school. Comparing the two, it seems like the klipsch system has more power (both have plenty to spare). I assume that having a separate tweeter improves the quality of the highs, but I couldn't really hear a difference. Also, the Klipsch gives you more control over the subwoofer. When i turn the subwoofer down on the Klipsch, it is very close to off, when I turn the bass control down on the Logitech, the subwoofer is still booming. The Klipsch system is fairly easy to set up. The lack of bare end wires (the Klipsch has a mini jack on the speaker end) might turn some users off. Doesn't really bother me. The price of the system is a real hit to the checking account, and I'm not even sure it's worth it. For $$ more I could have purchased the z-560's again. Alas, no room for it and no 5.1 sound card for this. This system will be overkill for most users, but if you like big sound without distortion and you have some money to spend, here is your system. Gamers should probably get a 5.1 system by Klipsch (Promedia, not GMX) or Logitech. You can read plenty of technical reviews (with fancy graphs and numbers and jargon like "soundstage") online. They all proclaim the Klipsch promedia 2.1 the standard by which every other 2.1 Computer Speaker system is measured. Design wise, these aren't exactly sexy, but not hideous or out of date either. They are quite large, larger than the Logitech sattelites. I recommend these speakers to the buyer not on a tight budget who listens to a lot of music. I don't recommend these speakers to gamers or buyers who want to watch DVDs because of the lack of 5.1. Just for the heck of it, I've also seen/heard a klipsch promedia 5.1 setup (probably playing stereo mode) broadcast to an entire street block. It wasn't anythign close to a concert, but if it's enough to travel that far with clarity, it's certainly enough to fill up a room.

Summary: sub is a little weak
Review: I read all the reviews before i bought this and it sounded like the best system for the price and indeed it could be. i have had this system for a little over a month and i only wish i had bought a larger sub, maybe a 10 or something. I dont think this one has enough power. The only other reason i give it a four is that when listening to music loud, the speakers make an extremely loud cracking noise. I pretty much solved this problem by moving my speakers farther away from the screen, however it stills happens every once in awhile. I really enjoy the satellites, they put out really nice sound.

Summary: Almost complete. . . .
Review: Frankly, these are the best PC Multimedia speakers I've ever heard. Being a classically-trained musician with, as I'm told, great ears, I think I have some credibility in making that judgment.

This is the fourth set of Klipsch speakers -- owned by myself and friends -- that I have spent a lot of time in front of and have fallen in love with over 13 years. Combining that info with the great customer service I received from Klipsch on one occasion in which I accidently damaged -- via falling vacuum cleaner! -- a Klipsch tower speaker's woofer (gasp!), noting that their price and speed of repair was remarkably reasonable and speedy, I've decided that Klipsch is one of only TWO brands of speakers that I'd consider buying.

However, I must state a few words of warning about the ProMedia 2.1 system in particular. While it does have the expected outstanding Klipsch sound quality, range, and balance (if you're a horn-tweeter fan like I am), I was rather surprised that they can be overdriven at a power level a bit lower than I expected. With that said, they still can provide extremely high volume and very tight bass without distortion for most types of music/sound within reason (e.g., organ pedals, thundering synth-bass, and suchlike will reduce the levels you can put out without distortion).

If your need is for desktop speakers for games and music of most types up to relatively high volumes, and/or if you need same-room sound while you're away from your desk, these are fine; if, however, you're trying to shake the room down the hall or rattle the neighbors' windows, this ain't the system for you.

Secondly, I'd plan on getting cable other than that which is shipped with these. I felt it to be of flimsily-cheap quality, and within months one of the wires failed, producing terrible static. These speakers require wires of somewhat non-standard configuration, but someone handy with wiring and connectors can rig up appropriate sets with minimal effort, and someone without that ability can order replacement Monster-based cables (EXCELLENT construction and quality!) made specifically for this unit from the Klipsch website under Multimedia Accessories. I have suggested to Amazon.com that they carry and list the same Monster units for the ProMedia 2.1 speakers on the same pages as the Klipsch speakers themselves: hopefully they will be able to do so.

Essentially, these are great speakers and, at Amazon.com's price, a great buy. Just make sure you know what you want them for, and know that they have some manageable power limitations: but be assured that if they're like the ones I got, they will sound wonderful, especially if you add better, sturdier, more reliable cables. It's difficult to go wrong with Klipsch.

Summary: Worth Every Penny
Review: Great sound. Unbelievably crisp, clear and loud! Better sound than my regular stereo which cost much more. The preceding reviews on this item were very helpful in making my final buying decision. This is one of those rare items that lives up to the hype; they really are as good as everyone says. You will be able to hear the quality limitations of mp3 downloads. If you have the money to buy cds, you wont even bother with free internet music downloads anymore; thery're not worth the time and effort for the poor quality you get. Even realaudio streams sound better, true "fm quality" as has been claimed. No problems with quality control defects in my case.

Summary: WOW!
Review: I bought the HK Soundsticks when I purchased my Mac in 2001 and thought they were very good quality and they sounded good. Very good imaging and transparency. I read a few reviews of the Klipsch 2.1's and decided to find them and take a listen. Came right back home and ordered them from Amazon. All I can say is, amazing! Simply amazing!! You won't find a better system for anywhere near the money. Source doesn't matter. Sounds good and very easily adjusted from the desktop.

By the way, I GAVE the Soundsticks away!

Summary: Great expectations, huge disappointment!
Review: Before I purchased the speakers, I had been looking online and reading reviews for over a month. I decided to buy Klipsch speakers which received usually 5 stars except in a few cases. I purchased them directly from the Klipsch website, because I thought I would get the newest ones (the initial series had a design flaw), but I was wrong. I waited almost a month for them and when I finally received them they were working for only 15 minutes and then broke down!!! They were not abused in any way nor exposed to extreme conditions. I do not know to this day how a[n expensive] system can perform so badly. It's like you bought a Mercedes Benz which had a Ford reliability. It turned out that the design flaw was not fixed (the subwoofer amplifier is very likely to fail prematurely). Although I called Klipsch that I want a refund, they sent me another pair, but this time I returned them again without even trying, but It took me three months and about 30 telephone calls before I finally got my money back, I had to threaten them with a lawyer, otherwise I doubt I would ever get anything back. The customer service was so bad that is not even worth describing. I found out later that these speakers are not actually made by Klipsch but by someone else for Klipsch, hence the poor reliability. Anyway, If you want to spend that much money on a computer sound system, consider some other brand, I suggest Logitech.

Summary: Superb
Review: I had a creative 2.1 system and it wasn't even in the same solar system as the Klipsch 2.1, my neighbors must hate me more than ever, the sound is truly mind boggling.

Summary: Yet another positive review!
Review: I am a little obsessive when I make any purchase and I did my homework on this one and was exceptionally pleased with the results. You'll be hard pressed to find anything but a glowing review of this product. Glad I didn't buy the soundsticks the guy at the Mac store recommended. There is no contest. I am certainly no electronics or sound expert but I do know these speaks pack some serious punch and do so with phenomenal clarity. There are a few minor inconveniences - manual volume control and awkward shutoff switch but once you take a listen to these speakers you'll singing the praises of simplicity. 200 watts of power will more than likely be more speaker than most people ever need and its unlikely that you will ever dial these up more than half way unless you're showing off or trying to annoy the neighbours but sometimes you just want to buy the best. You'll hear music and DVD's with more depth than ever before. Not your ordinary computer speakers. These will absolutely compete with or surpass the performance of most peoples home stereos. Don't forget to warm these speakers up with 8 to 10 hours of moderate play before you blast them, trust me it will be an exercise in patience. Amazon.com has great pricing and reasonable shipping, very pleased I purchased through them. Shipping could have been free but I couldn't wait so I opted for the 2nd Day air.

Summary: klipsch 4.1,s
Review: just picked up a set of promedia 4.1,s yesterday at circuit city for 189.95 with a 20.00 mail in rebate. they,re replacing a set of boston acoustic ba4800,s which i,ve had and enjoyed for almost 2 years now. the ba4800,s were very good but after getting the promedia,s up and running there is really no comparision. i,am extremely impressed with klipsch system and would highly recomend it, especially with a net price of 169.95, i believe they,re closing them out and will be supperseeded with the promedia 4.2 with two subs
