Summary: Better than 6-speaker sets from others
Review: I agree with the previous reviewer "steveinphl from Philadelphia, PA"I have just returned Creative Inspire 6.1 system as it had too much noise. Bose speakers have less noise (it's there still and audible). The BEST about these speakers is that they produce complete sound range by themselves -- bass, treble, and everything in between, are all perfect, resulting in NATURAL SOUND. All those six-speaker systems have separate speakers for bass and the rest (subwoofer and satellites) resulting in a gap between bass and treble, where a good part of music falls. Sound from these six-speaker systems is for that reason not as good as sound from two speakers from Bose. Man, I do not need a separate subwoofer! Though I am quite satisfied with sound, there is still "some" noise. I have an ear for noise, so slightest of it is noticeable to me. I would have been happier if Bose provided specifications for the speakers, at least for the powered ones. Their support team refuses to provide specs. Nevertheless, sound from the speakers is GOOD. That's what matters at the end. These are a five-star speakers. (Actually amplifier inside those speakers matters more.) Also consider Polk Audio AMR130 speakers. They are the best I have found. Have best-in-class noise performance (90dB). Power specification is 40W RMS, more than enough for a room.

Summary: Excellent for low volume listening
Review: I bought a pair of Mediamates to replace my CS Microworks speakers. The old set performed best at medium listening levels, but since I do most of listening at low to very low volumes, I decided to go with the Bose. These little speakers are capable of reproducing bass at low volumes without getting too loud and disturbing anyone. Of course, I had to fiddle with the computer's EQ settings to give the bottom end a bit more boost. Also, I like the fact that the bass port is the front. At very low volumes, the bass seems loudest when you are directly in front of the speakers. By contrast, the Microworks subwoofer would go everywhere, including through walls. Overall, when I'm playing games late at night, the sound is clear, and I can hear the bass without disturbing anyone.
If you are looking for music speakers played at medium volumes, then I would look elswhere. The Bose seem lack the very low bass found in pop music. I would say that these speakers go down to 90 or 100 hertz. Good enough form most uses, but I keep a home theater sub under the desk for those rare moments.

Review: I cant completeley describe how amazing these sound. It is unbelieveable. You can hear all of the high pitched sounds (cymbals, etc) extremely well, and they are not distorted by anything. it sounds like there is a tweeter, but there isnt.
all the midrange sounds are also undistorted, and vocals sound like the person is right in front of you, instead of coming out of a can like most other speakers. And the bass...whoa. The bass doesnt distort any of the other tones in any way, and it sounds like there is a subwoofer, but the bass is well integrated with the other sounds, so the bass doesnt overwhelm on the other tones. To sum it up, these are BOSE speakers, expect unbelievable sound.

Summary: I'm not a Bose fan but this is a good product for the money.
Review: I feel that most Bose products are overpriced and underperforming but this little product is one of the rare exceptions to that rule. Mind you these speakers are not worth a penny above the asking price but they are very good for the under one hundred dollar range. To get decent quality sound you will need a good sound card with a treble and bass adjuster. I use these with a Soundblaster 5.1 and they sound great with the bass at 65% and the treble at 90%. The highs and mids are clean the bass is great for a non subwoofer unit.

Summary: The Quest for the best computer desktop speakers
Review: I first heard these Bose MediaMate speakers on display at a local Best Buy and was impressed with its full sound and deep bass. I would have purchased them then and there, but they were out of stock so I went home and ordered it from Amazon. These speakers take less overall space (no subwoofer), and to me sound better than my Logitech Z-340 speakers, which is remarkable considering that the Logitech has a subwoofer and these don't!
The only negative was that the first pair I received had a faulty connector coming from the powered speaker to the non-powered speaker, which caused static or silence in the right speaker if I touched the connector or moved the left speaker. However, with Amazon's easy-to-use return policy (they paid for return shipping, with the return label accessible immediately via UPS online), I was able to get a replacement promptly via express delivery. I was pleased that Amazon shipped the new pair before they received the faulty pair, minimizing the turnaround. The new pair still had some problems with the connector (i.e. static on the right speaker if I fiddled with it), but it was not as bad as the first pair, and was acceptable once it was set up. Some notes:
- The quality of the connector coming from the powered speaker to the non-powered speaker needs to be improved (see note above).
- There is no power button on these speakers, which wasn't an issue for me since I have both my monitor and speakers connected to a switch which I can power off.
- There is a built-in mixer that allows you to connect an additional source and fade between the two.
- There are only two knobs, for the volume and the mixer. There are no bass/treble controls like some speakers. You can do this via software if necessary, although I have never needed to yet because it sounds great as-is.
- There is a headphone out jack (most other speakers have this also). In spite of the quality issues I described above, I feel these are a great set speakers even compared to those having subwoofers, and by far are the best 2-speaker sets I have heard. BTW, I have demoted my Logitechs to serve as speakers for the TV room in my guest/game room. Rating 4 out of 5 due to the quality issues I encountered, would have been a 5 otherwise.

Summary: Nice speakers
Review: I got these a while ago upgrading from some harmon/kardon speakers that came with the computer. In the begining i had the speakers hooked straight up to my computer. They sounded great, and i've had a lot to compare to, my dad had cambridge soundworks speakers, my mom had yamaha speakers, and my sister had one of those huge logitech speaker systems. These still sounded better than all them. Bose only makes speakers, nothing else. Unlike Panasonic, Sony, and Logitech who make other products and don't really specialize in speaker making. They sounded great connected to my computer, loud, perfect bass, and everything you would be looking for in a quality speaker. Then i decided to go buy Creative Audigy2, and hooked my speakers up to that. They sounded even better, but it came to a little over $200 for bth things. Surprisingly the speakers alone are better than most home theatre systems. If your looking for quality speakers, these are the ones for you

Summary: Best 2.0 computer speakers
Review: I got these speakers from a Bose store (ice blue) and replaced my sony computer speakers with them. I've always believed that Bose products are the best out there and I was right. My friends were impressed with the tiny speakers' performance. Some of them have just bought these speakers and are appreciative.
Own these and you won't be sorry.

Summary: Wow. Simply Wow.
Review: I had a chance to test these speakers side by side against other 2, 3, 5, and 6 speaker systems for the PC (Products like the Klipsch ProMedia 4.1 - $300, Creative Labs Inspire 2.1 - 2600/4.1 - 4400/5.1 - 5300, Logitech Z540, and Altec Lansing 2100 and 641). Simply put, these Bose speakers had the BEST overall sound quality. The speaker casing seems to be a hard metallic compound. Combined with the type of drivers and acoustic volume configuration, there is very little bass distortion. The other speakers, even the expensive 5.1 systems, produced noticeable bass distortion at medium volume settings and above. And, with the exception of the Klipsch ProMedia 4.1, the other speakers had a slightly uneven sound balance that either favored medium (hollow sound) or high pitch (tinny) when compared to the Bose. These Bose speakers reproduced sound beautifully -- very impressive for their small size. The only downside is that they are just a pair of stereo speakers -- not true surround sound. However, there are 4 RCA inputs in the back of the left speaker (the control unit). The second of the two dials in the front (the first being volume control) controls the Channel A - Channel B sound mix. Therefore, the two speakers allow surround sound mixing, producing a full and rich sound effect. A personal plus is the headphone jack on the left (control) speaker. A personal minus (minor) is the lack of a remote (either wired or wireless). In summary, compared with the other speakers mentioned above, the Bose speakers sounded the best. The lack of true surround sound (5.1 channel) should be counterweighed by sound quality that is not matched until you go beyond the $300 price range for quality home theater speaker systems.

Review: I have never owned a Bose product before this, but have always wanted to because I have heard numerous comments about the quality, and room-filling sound. So, I wanted great sound for my laptop, but didn't want a huge system with 2 speakers and a sub-woofer. I saw these Bose speakers, and I knew they would sound great. I brought them home, hooked them up, put on a CD, cranked them up to high-volume, and OH MY GOD!!!!!! THEY ARE GREATER THAN GREAT, AND EVEN GREATER THAN THAT!!!! These little speakers have SO MUCH BASS built in, and the sound is extremely room-filling, and has extremely crisp quality sound. I LOVE THEM!!! This is a product that EVERYONE should have!! Beleive me, if you buy these speakers, YOU WILL LOVE THEM!!!! There is nothing like them!!!!!
