Rating: Summary: Actually, it DOES work on Windows... Review: Contrary to another opinion that is posted, the Harman Kardon soundsticks/iSub does work on most PCs. Has been known to be problematic with Windows 98SE or earlier, but works fine (plug and play!) on Windows ME, Windows 2000, and later.
Rating: Summary: Compatibility Problems Review: Did you upgrade your Mac with a PCI-USB card? You did? Then forget Soundsticks. They won't work. The Apple System Profiler recognizes them but the Sound Control Panel doesn't. Sure wish Soundstick's technical data mentioned this.Harman/Kardon's Tech support was no help at all. Pity... and they look so cool.
Rating: Summary: Look much better than they sound... Review: Found these to be very disappointing and ended up returning them. Not only is the sound poor, but I found that when using them with a new LCD iMac running OS X, you can't control the volume from the keyboard volume controls, or from the menu bar - the volume can only be controlled from the sound preference panel. Bought a set of Monsoon 702's instead which sound much better and cost way less.
Rating: Summary: BLOW IT UP!! Review: Got these bad boys for my iMAC to crank out the tunes from my iMAC loaded with 6300 MP3's at 192 kbps. Perhaps you could get better sound, but these puppies crank out the tunes and handle pretty loud volumes with minimal distortion. Compared to the stock speakers on the Mac, these guys rule!! Do yourself a favor and get these speakers so you can hear what's going on in your music. Then get Derek and the Dominos Live at the Fillmore East, you'll see what I'm talking about!
Rating: Summary: Great Speakers for Mac's Review: I bought these speakers about 6 months ago. They're the best computer speakers I've ever owned. They have great deep bass, even at loud levels. There are no controls for bass or trebel on speakers but if u have a nice program on ur computer u can tweak the bass perfect. Plus just look at them, they're sharp!
Rating: Summary: This system works well with win98se/win2k/winXP Review: I bought this one when I heard it can work with windows system and makes very nice high and low.
Rating: Summary: The truth about these speakers ! Review: I dont know why but these speakers will not run on Mac s new operating system OSX and they have no plans to change that. I have had these speakers for over a year. Overall i think they are great fun. BUT these are the things that you should know about the speakers before you get it. Basically the things they somehow neglect to tell you. 1. It only runs on OS 9.0 or higher. 2. THE SPEAKER CORD is barely long enough to get to the top of your computer table. So if you have a deep desk it wont reach to the front. 3. There are no speaker cable extensions. 4. It has a large cluncky power supply that takes up space on the floor. 5. You only have one option for where to plug it in , the Monitor - It wont work on any other usb port. 6. No control nob on the speakers themselves. 7. You can not use these in conjuction with any other speakers. 8. All the normal beeps and little sounds your mac makes will go through these speakers. This will be really loud. Causing you to constantly adjust the volume. The two main problems are really the length of the speaker cord and the fact that they will not work with any new MAC that runs on OSX So buyer beware & Good Luck
Rating: Summary: subwoofer gave in & HK has the worst customer support Review: i got this system to compliment my powermac g4 and 20" cinema display. it worked like a charm in the first week and the design of this system is just outstanding and it belongs to the whole g4 case and cinema display set up. then the subwoofer stopped working after 1 week, so i contacted harmon kardon through the phone and email numerous times (called and left message 5 times in 5 days and emailed them stating the whole situation regarding the subwoofer as well as the fact that it's impossible to get a response from them). anyway, it's been more than a week and i still havent heard back from them. and everytime i called, it's always the voicemail saying that they are currently helping other customers and if you leave a message, someone will get back to you right away...blah blah blah until last time when i called, the voicemail actually said "sorry, you cannot leave any message at this number because the mailbox is full!" that's just absolutely horrible and ridiculous. i am returning the soundsticks no matter how much i love them. harmon kardon multimedia has the worst customer service support based on my experience. so now i gotta shop for another speaker systems. good luck!
Rating: Summary: subwoofer gave in & HK has the worst customer support Review: I have been researching for a set of speakers to buy for my Mac for several weeks now. I originally purchased the Klipsch 2.1 ProMedia GMX-A, but there is distortion/fuzzing always coming out of them which became very annoying. These Harman SoundSticks sound absolutely incredible! The digital sound is crisp and clear, no distortion or problems whatsoever. The USB was actually a great idea! The bass is always very true and adjustable. Not to mention, these look great! A must-buy - believe me I have done the research...
