Rating: Summary: ABSOLUTLY STUNNING! Review: These speakers add new things to every game. Games that have been on the shelf for a year come back to life with every sound it has to offer. The Bass is where it is at. The bass will blow you away. You will be amaze at its ability to fill your room with sound. he Treble is also top notch. The treble is very nice when you listiening to all your songs. Basically I feel the Z680s supply quality sound in lows mid and high pitchs. The packag is really nice bringing Digital to life with a DTS Decoder. You can play your DVDs with everything they have to offer. The mounts are very nice. You can easily mount them to your walls and for your center speaker you can take the mount off and just lay it on your Moniter. The Great thing is that this are not just for you computer they can be easily used for your home entertainment center since they have coax optical and direct plugs.
Rating: Summary: Home Theater In A Box! Review: This has digital coax and toslink connections. You can hook up direct from your DVD player. Klipsch does not have these connections. This Logitech and a DVD player are all you need for home theater. When you want better hometheater, just move the Logitech to the computer. The Logitech uses bare wire, cheap and excellent wire you can buy cheap at Rat Shack. I have Klipsch 4.1 and the wires are really bad, won't be buying Klipsch anymore.
Rating: Summary: Holy crapamoli! Review: Every since I blew my money on the Creative 5700 5.1 system, I've been looking for an excuse to buy a new system (because I really regret getting the 5700's). I looked at the Klipsch, and listened to them at Best Buy, but I wasn't very impressed; especially considering the price tag. Although the Z-680 is actually sold for the same price as the Promedia, they completely annihalate the Klipsch in terms of quality! I've never heard such clean and precise sound in a computer speaker system. These speakers are almost as good as a Bose or JBL home theater system (and half the price, too). The subwoofer is an impressive 188 watts, so even when the volume is cranked, these babies still put out very clean, undistorted sound. Although when the volume and the subwoofer level is at full, distortion can be heard, but I'm not sure if that's the approaching limits of the speakers or of my ears. So whether you listen to music, watch DVD's, play games, or all of the above, these speakers are sure to kick major a$$ at doing it! This is the first product I've given a full five stars to, and Logitech really earned it!
Rating: Summary: Great, but there are better (albeit few) Review: These speakers fit the bill perfectly for an upper echelon comp speakers, or some of the best console speakers ever. However, having actually HEARD both these and the klipshc 5.1 promedias, the promedia's sound slightly better and less boomy bass wise. Don't get me wrong, these are great speakers, and for... they are cheaper and almost as good as the klipsch. However, I consider the extra money worth it for the klipsch. Also, while the decoder is great for consoles, it is superflous for pcs where and good soundcard (esp. audigy 1 or 2) coupled with powerdvd or win dvd will be able to decode both dts and dd perfectly, and they also support pro logic II. Thus, for console speakers, these are unbeatable for the price (klipsch's dream system with external decodes costs...), but for computer speakers, where the decoder doesn't matter as it will all be done by a good soundcard, get the klipsches and exjoy youself. Either way you will be happy, but with the klipsches, you will be moreso.
Rating: Summary: Very Impressed Review: Logitech has really outdone everyone in their new 5.1 speaker setup. The power of this system is amazing and will be more than adequate for any home user. If you have a high quality soundcard (I recommend the Audigy 2), then the audio quality is comparable to high end sound systems. For <[$$], you can get a reciever that has the new Dolby Digital II and DTS decoders included and a set of top notch speakers, all of which are THX certified. I would reccomend these speakers to anyone looking for high-end audio for their computer system. They certainly beat out all of the competition, especially for the price.
Rating: Summary: Nothing better! Review: These are the Klipsch killers! Let's rejoice people! We have finally found a competetor against Klipsch in the high-end speaker market! While looking at a spec sheet of these things, you may think that they are inferior to the Klipsch's, but no my friends: It is exactly the other way around! What? Klipsch beats Logitech in power rating? Get outta here! It's true! Klipsch has beaten Logitech in one very important area: burst power. The Z-680s are rated at 450 watts and the Klipschs are rated at 500 watts. But don't let this discourage you from buying this speaker system. The Z-680s STAY at 450 watts, while the Klipsch's use their own sound tests to provide those ratings - chances are, that you will actually find Logitech's ratings more "True to word". OK. The power rating conspericy has been taken care of, but where from here? Let's start with the sound quality. Let me assure you that these speakers go LOUD. And not just loud as in, ow that hurts my ears, but LOUD as in "I've gone def!" And what I am saying is very true. Being an audiophile, my ears have been worn out from speaker system to speaker system, but my ears decided to quit once I brought these things up to 80 percent! WARNING: Since most people out there don't have ears like me, I would recommend staying LOWER than 90 percent because you can serriously damage your ears playing these speakers too loud! And not only do they sound great when they are loud, but the subwoofer's bass shakes the roof! I am not kidding folks! I have my subwoofer next to the corner of my desk, and let me explain that it made a few pewter figures that I own and a framed picture fall off my wall! Do NOT turn the bass up TOO high if you are in tight corners because you will break something! These speakers have interesting technologies included with them: Phase plugs. If anyone knows about those old-school drivers that they used with speakers in the 70's, then you will recognize these quickly! While they are not exactly the same, they include four inch drivers in each speaker and then muffles out the sound for extraordinary clearness! But the one thing that is best about this speaker system is: FEATURES GALORE!!! This speaker system comes with a very reasonable ammount of "doodads", "bells and whistles", and "Special Toys". To begin with, there is a control pod in which all the speakers hook up too. This pod additionally decodes Dobly Digital for you so you can get extremely realistic digital sound in a 5.1 field! There is a blue LED 2-lined screen on the top of the pod which shows you the stats of the speakers and it also gives you the information of what you are choosing. The master, surround, and subwoofer volume is all controlled by this pod, and there is also a plethora of tweaks and settings to choose/change from! Another great and nifty feature of this speaker system is its remote control. I mean, honestly, you can NEVER have too many remote controls! Hey, I have two for my computer alone! This remote control sports all the nifty features you can get through the control pod, but now you can change settings from affar. It even works through walls! Very nifty for parties and other "social" things! And along with this, you get it for a very cheap price, and sometimes even cheaper than Klipsch's models. All in all, this is a very good buy and it gets a very big approval from me and my "assistant" testers. Cheers, and happy listening!
Rating: Summary: Step down from the throne Klipsch!!! Review: Hello, and welcome to my review. Today, we are going to see how the new Logitech Z680 speaker system can match up to the demanding quality of PC speakers: One word: AMAZING! These speakers go above and beyond any Klipsch speaker. To begin, while they have less wattage than the Klipsches, it makes up for the astounding performance at higher volumes. Yes, the Klipschs can go higher, but honestly, the Logtiechs will blow your ears out enough as it is! Also, these speakers, as I mentioned just above, are some of the best sounding I have ever heard! They have interesting things called Phase Plugs, which apparently are supposed to keep the noise at a less destorted rate. I personally think that this was so that the speakers will cost less money, but enough about the judgemental stuff: they seem to work! The only concern I have with these interesting drivers is that the speakers DO sound better with the grilles off. Next, let's take size into concern. These babies are HUGE! I mean, 21 inch monitor huge! The subwoofer measured as tall as my 21 inch Hitachi monitor! I nearly fell down after taking this gigantic box from my garage to my bedroom which was two floors higher. It was that heavy! Not only is the sound quality somehting to die for, but the special features beat out Klipsch by a long shot! You see, almost everyone wonders why they get such little content with such an enourmous ammount of money spending when the buy a Klipsch. Logitech has found the answer to this! Not only do they have an amazing sounding speaker system, but everything hooks up effortlessly and easily to a "control pod". This pod includes a nob for the volume. You can also adjust the surround, bass, and treble on this nob. It even has an LED screen so you can see what you are choosing - even in the dark! The pod also, amazingly, has a built in decoder for digital sound! Dolby Digital, Dolby Surround Sound, and more are decoded in this tiny box. And yes, they sound great. You can hook them up via Optical or Coaxil. I hooked up my Xbox through the Optical and my DVD player through the Coaxil, and they BOTH sounded amazing. Also, along with all this, you get a remote control! This is able to do everything you can do on the pod, but you don't have to be at your computer to do the changes you need to make. Great for the lazy ones who like their music sounding great! Now, if I were you, I would still wait. I, in my own humble opinion, would wait before I bought these speakers. Why? Because these babies cost a lot of money, and it would be a shame to buy these and then see a week later that a new 6.1 Klipsch model had just come out, with one hundred watts more power, and an extra speaker! This has always been an issue with Logitech. When everyone else is developing 6.1 speakers, they JUST released their 5.1. The reason that they may be a year behind may be because of the work put into this system, or it could just be because they entered the market at an odd time. Whatever the case may be, I would wait and see what other competetors like Klipsch and Altec Lansing (hmm - well they really aren't competetors) have in store for you guys in the near future. After all, the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2s have just come out. Use that 6th speaker port to your advantage! But for those of you that DON'T need an insane 7 speakers in your room at once, and want the best possible sound for your money, and also a plethora of features, then the Logitech Z-680 speakers are for you!
Rating: Summary: A Little Peace of Heaven Pulsating Through Your Ear Review: I think Maximum PC's K!ck ...award says it best, this system does K!ck ..., in fact it K!cks so much ...that it has been crowned as the new king of the computer speaker world, yes thats right Logitech's 5.1 surround sound system has beaten out the long time tyrant of the industry Klipsch, and for about ...less and using 50 fewer watts! But thanks to the minds at Logitech this system goes higher on the decibal charts without buzzing than Klipsch does. These speakers are hands down the best computer speakers on the market and worth every penny you will spend on these bad boys. I wish I could better put to words how well these speakers sound but I can't, all I can say is that they are the best available, and that's saying a lot.
Rating: Summary: Review revisited Review: I reviewed this item a few months back giving it 5 stars. Now I am giving it 3. Here are a few reasons for that: 1. The bass does seem too out of place. Its not smooth, too heavy and can spoil the whole experience if you are watching a movie or listening to music, unless its hip-hop. 2. Never use optical cables with this system. I have a Creative Extigy soundcard that has dolby digital decoder. But I thought it would be better to use the speaker system's own decoder. So I bought Monster Optical cable (THX certified). Now whenever I watch a dvd or try to play and dolby digital content, I get a sharp high pitched noise for a brief moment that is really annoying. That noise is also produced if you resume from a pause or fast-forward or rewind. So basically whenever the state of the data changes from normal stereo to digital, that unpleasant noise is produced. I talked to logitech customer support and they blamed my sound card (creative extigy) for it. I called creative but they blamed the speakers for it. I feel really inclined to believe its the speakers because the sound card is just channeling the data through its optical port and the actual decoding is being done at the speakers. 3. The display on the control pod has a very bad contrast. 4. There are heat fins at the back of the sub-woofer and they get really really hot if you are listening to music at loud volumes and you can also smell circuit burning. That's why I've stopped listening to music too loud. 5. After a month of using this system, the sub-woofer has started making a noise as if something inside it is lose (could be its casing too) when the sub is at 50% or above volume and the central volume is 40% or above. It is really annoying too. Over all this is a good speaker system but considering the recent price reduction, I am guessing logitech is about to release a better sound system (maybe a 7.1). So you might want to wait a few months before going ahead with the purchase. Also you should consider Klipsch speakers. They are costlier but certainly worth the extra money.
