Summary: Most relavent review
Review: I read mixed reviews, so I rolled the dice and bought these. Absolute garbage. In their little bag they are 3" thick. They sound very quiet. No bass (expected), and no Mid-range (not expected). The front panel is a cheap corrugated plastic sheet. They certainly are 360 degree speakers: They sound equally bad from all directions. Even the patch cables that they provided had breaks in the cables. My original comment to my wife was "Twenty bucks, how can I go wrong?". Well, my answer now is I could have still had my $20. Now I just have to find someone to give them to, as they are not worth the space they take up. I know you get what you pay for, but if that was the case here, then should have been on sale for half off at the 99 cent store.

Summary: Excellent Speakers
Review: I recently used the SI-5 panel speakers for an outdoor gathering, and they worked-out perfectly. Their clarity and portability are amazing, not to mention their unique appearance. These speakers are winners -- have portable speakers, will travel...

Summary: Worthless!!
Review: I've never given a poor review before but I too would give these speakers less than one star if that were an option. I got these about three months ago, and they have been sitting in the bottom drawer of my computer desk since. They are an insult to the music I tried to listen to on them. All I can say is maybe they got dropped or damaged before they were delivered, because there is no way they are intended to sound that terrible! No matter what volume I tried to listen to, it crackles and is all out horrible! They eat up AAA batteries like nothing I've ever seen and are a huge hassle to set up, with way too much extra wiring. And on top of the poor quality, they are very flimsy. It's so much of a hassle just to set up that I don't even bother carying them around in my laptop bag anymore. If you want to go cheep w/ laptop sound, get a good pair of headphones for the same price or spend the bucks for the sony protable ones, because NOTHING could be worse than these, short of not working at all.

Summary: What a surprise
Review: Just spent the last month checking the internet for portable speakers to take on vacation. I wanted something as small as possible, good sound and a modest price. When I first saw the price of the SI-5, I thought "They can't sound very good for that price but after reading all the reviews on amazon.com and a few other sites I decided to purchase these. If they turned out not so great sounding, I could return them and start my quest all over again. I bought them this past Saturday at BestBuy and hooked them up almost immediately to my Sony MD Walkman. All I can say is "What a surprise." I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for compactness, good sound and an incredibly great price in travel speakers. I only regret not waiting another day because Circuit City here had them on sale for $17.99 and I also had a $5.00 off coupon which would have brought the price down to $12.99. That would have been an even more incredible bargain for what you are getting for the little bit of money being spent.

Summary: Portable, but wheres the bass?
Review: Pro:
- Small size (the speakers are the size of a cd player, excluding the amplifier and the wires)
- Portable when used with batteries

Con:
- Bruch was right about the speakers. They do sound doll on the bass side.
- When the batteries die out you'll hear a hear raising yell coming out of the speakers.

Summary: Flat-panelled, and iPAQesque
Review: Relocated away from my home theatre for a longish project, I was looking for a music system that sounded speckless, traveled well, played MP3s, and looked cool enough to go with my iPAQ 3536. The SI-5 convinced me I should really let the iPAQ do the MP3s, for the speakers took care of the rest like nothing else I found.

The flat-panel speaker technology, patented by NXT, uses an exciter that vibrates the panel to generate sound and distribute it evenly in all directions, unlike conventional speakers in which the sound is thrown forward by the cone. The SI-5 adds to this a 3D surround sound chip, a high-frequency class D digital amplifier, and two cool blue 0.75-inch thick satellites.

Downside? Well once you've hooked it up there's a passing fancy that the unit would have looked cooler wireless. There are 2 wires to the satellites, 1 to the player, and 1 to the power outlet, if you're not using batteries. And the unit is available in a red color too, which you don't wanna get.

Summary: Nice size but zero bass
Review: Small, portable, nice design with plenty of treble and middle frequencies but no bass. If you want your CDs and MDs to sound as if they were being played through an old 2" TV speaker, these are for you. If you prefer a fuller sound, you won't like these speakers. Another caution: They have very powerful magnets. Don't put them anywhere near any magnetic-type data storage (floppies, hard disks).
