Rating: Summary: expected more Review: Given the THX qualification, I expected more out of these speakers. Unfortunately, they did not even compare with my Klipsch ProMedia 4.1s. If all you want is a lot of bass for computer games or movies, then these speakers are great and a good price for 5.1. If you want something more, especially for music, then you have to spend more. I'm getting the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Ultras instead.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Great deal, $50 cheaper on amazon.com than BestBuy! Get a good sound card too, if you don't already have one, it makes a difference.
Rating: Summary: OUTSTANDING!! Review: I actually got these babies instead of the original purchase of the Logitech z680's Digital speakers. I went out to (intending) to buy the Logitech z680's as I heard that they are top rated. I couldn't find them availabe, so I went with these and I am NOT disappointed!! I took them home and immediately set them up and connected them to my PC and I must admit that I am very pleased and surprised by the quality in which I hear now.Sound card ~ I have a Soundblaster 5.1 Sound card and what a difference it makes!! You need to check your sound card, and if it is of anything close to the requirements, then you will not be disappointed. Package and Set-up ~ I recieved the system carefully packed. Each componant was in its own sleeve in the box. As stated before, Setup was VERY simple. Colour coded wiring made it snap and the Set-up was completed in no less than 10-15 minutes. The wiring is thick and not thin, as in some of the models I looked at. This speaker set is very solid and heavy. Looks ~ The speakers look fashionable and sleek , and pleasing to the eye. If your not happy with the silver colour, all you have to do is remove the cover and then you will have a set dark silver speakers, awesome :) Each seperate speaker can be adjusted to "swivel" either horizontally or vertical, depending on your preference. Another plus! Sound ~ I am a avid gamer and play alot of FPS's. I have played a short section of Single Player MoH:AA and was impressed, I then went online and played in Multiplayer Mode and I was blown away by the little nuances that I now noticed, which were not noticed before. I was very impressed!! Each sound is enhanced dramatically!! I heard even Bass, which was not too "Boomy" nor drowned out the rest of the speakers!! Music and effects were crystal clear and precise. I heard the "Zips and Zings" clearly and have heard my opponates behind me, making me react much more precisely, thus improving my game and response time. Now I know there are aficinados concerning sound and what not, I am only stating what I enjoyed out of these speakers. I am a gamer and I do not punish my speakers by playing them excessively loud!! I have them at a comfortable level, even tho, I did hear my upstairs neighbour "bang" on the ceiling above, meaning that these did the "trick" ;) If you are looking for a quality, well built, solid set of 5.1 speakers and not looking to bust your cash flow, then these are HIGHLY recommended!! You will not be disappointed!!
Rating: Summary: Very satisfyied - I use it with a computer, DVD Player, TV Review: I am very satisfied and a happy customer with this purchase. I am having a DVD player with built in Dolby decoder with 5.1 output. I was looking for a powered speaker system to go with it. After a lot of research I chose the Logitech Z-5300 with a dual purpose in my mind, to connect to home audio as well as to the computer. It turned out to be an excellent choice. I purchased 3 Y-cables converters to convert the output from A/V plug to 3.5 pin connectors to connect with DVD player, and other home audio systems. I do not have any issue for connecting it to the computer, since these speakers comes with the necessary cables to go with any 5.1 sound card. Features wise, the matrix mode is really good. It converts the 2-channel output into virtual surround mode. It is good for TV/CD/MP3 audio. We can control the rear speakers and center speaker volume using the included remote, which I feel is little bulky. THX certification ensures excellent audio quality. The included wire for rear speakers is not long enough, if you have a big room. You can purchase audio cable from a local store to extend the wires. I am really satisfied with this buy. I could arrange my entire home theatre including DVD player all for less $200/- which sounds like $500+ system, thanks to Logitech 5300.
Rating: Summary: Quality speakers for a good price. Review: I bought this 5.1 set about a month ago, and after initial disappointment I found that I had the wrong software settings. So, it is important to make sure your sound is calibrated properly or you won't recieve the full effect of these boomy speakers. As for the speakers themselves, they are of top quality construction, and the wired remote included is extremely handy for quick adjustments. If you're looking for a set of speakers for your desktop, look elsewhere. These are meant to be placed at least 6-8 feet from you, because they need to be turned up louder. At closer ranges the hissing is more audible and you won't feel as much bass because they are at a lower volume. Overall sound quality is excellent. My only complaint would have to be a tiny bit of crackling at high volumes, and the satellite cords are a bit short for my tastes. But that's just me.

Rating: Summary: What can I say? Awesome speakers Review: I just bought this baby last week, man, the speakers blew me away. I had the 2.1 Altec Lansing speakers with the on-board sound card and I thought it sounds good already. But then I decided to upgrade to THX system, so I went out and bought this Z-5300 speakers and I also bought the Sound Blaster THX Audigy 2 sound card. The setup was a breeze, all color coded. The only thing took time was that I want to setup the surround sound correctly, so I had to run all the wires along the wall (you will need to buy extra extension RCA cables because the rear speakers cable weren't long enough. I bought the 25 feet extension rca stereo cables at Fry's for $10 and split them into 2 because the rear speakers each only uses 1 single rca wire). After all the speakers setup and software installed for the SB sound card, I cranked this baby up (the SB Audigy 2 supports both THX and DVD-Audio) with the sample dvd-audio came with the sound card. Boy oh boy, I have to say "WOW". What a different it make, I would say the Logitech speakers sound as good as my JBL/Infiniti 6.1 speakers home theater system in my living room, or it even sounds cleaner because of the THX. The bass output of the sub is awesome, I didn't even turn the volume to half and it actually shakes my wall and windows. After the dvd-audio testing, I was so impressed with the speakers, I then put in the Terminator 2 movie with THX sound, holy ... (I also have the Nvidia GeForce 4200 Ti 128 mb of ram with the TV-out to my 27' tv), I thought I was sitting in the movie theater. So, if you decide to buy this baby, I would also suggest to you that get a good THX sound card like the SB Audigy 2 THX, it is well worth it.

Rating: Summary: Awesome Speakers Review: I just setup the Z-5300 speakers and I am very impressed with the overall sound quality and the amount of sound these babies can put out. I am using a SoundBlaster Audigy ZS sound card and this seems to be a match made in heaven. The setup was fairly easy and my only complaint is the speaker wire on the Center and Left & Right front speakers could be longer. Also the Subwoofer is very large and I had a hard time finding a big enough space for it. At the price I paid for these speakers you can not beat the value. My biggest problem is that the rest of my family doesn't have the same appreciation of music and they keep turning the volume down. JR
Rating: Summary: Nice and powerful but crossover is wacky Review: I like the 'fit and finish' of this system but the bass is 'boomy'. After some investigating (using motherboard AC97 audio and an external Soundblaster Extigy) I think the issue is that there is an internal crossover from the front L/front R channels to the subwoofer and even in 5.1 mode (set by a slide switch on the unit) it is active -- so there is no way to use the digital crossover built into the extigy (for example), you're just going to get bass from the main left/right channels like it or not. This would all be fine, but the bass sounds muddy and overpowers everything even at the minimum possible subwoofer setting. Careful application of DSP equalizer in the onboard audio tool and the extigy helps a *lot*, as did putting a small sock in the subwoofer port and moving the bass unit as far away as possible (using the s/w equalizer with the Extigy ended up being the best solution for my environment). After all this the setup sounds pretty good, but the bass is still a bit muddy/boomy compared to the Philips (Microsoft) 2.1 USB speakers it is replacing. I'm not returning it but if it were a week ago and I was buying from scratch I would look to one of the creative speaker systems which seem to be highly regarded as well for this price range.
