Summary: Don't waste your time like I did
Review: Just spent 2+ hours with the RCA software. I can't believe how terrible the software is. Besides the poor ease of use everytime we tried to download songs, their software distorted the file like it had major skipping. If this were 1990 or so maybe I would have more patience here, but come on, something this bad shouldn't have made it to the shelf. I'm returning my daughter's player tomorrow. Never will buy RCA again. Life's too short to spend money for the headaches they give you.

Review: MusicMatch has to be the worst software program that I have encountered. Perhaps MusicMatch is incompatible with Windows ME. Assistance is of no benefit- all you get is gobblygoop via emails. My computer has been on the blink ever since I downloaded the upgrade which cost an extra $29.95. Freezing and constant need to reboot the computer drove me to remove MusicMatch completely to eliminate the problems.At this time I am not using the RCA RD 1070 MP3 player.
It has been a bad experience all around.

The latest MusicMatch incarnation does NOT support the Lyra for downloaded music. The company claims to have a plug-in to allow users to play downloaded music on the Lyra, but the plug-in does not install. Without the plug-in, you can still copy the files you ripped from CD, but no new music. I would like to buy myself a portable music device, but it won't be this one and it won't be any other that uses MusicMatch.

Review: RCA has a great scam going. Sell a fairly decent product somewhat cheaper then the competition. Of course, they are engineered to fail after only a few months use. I don't think it is all that unreasonable for a player with no moving parts to last at least as long as my 5 year old CD player. I purchased an RCA KaZoo initially. It operated similiarly to the Lyra and I was generally happy with it. However after only 3 months it quit working. No worries, I decided to upgrade and go with a player that had a larger storage capacity and purchased the Lyra. Again after only a few short months it broke. This time it will not respond to the play button. What is really frustrating is that the unit still communicates with the computer via the USB cable connection. It just won't play the damn songs. The tech support hasn't been helpful at all. The website has numerous broken links and the phone support is obviously crewed by minimum wage know-nothings. I would not recommend purchasing anything by RCA. It isn't worth 20+ bucks a month to keep replacing broken players.

Summary: Excellent Player with exceptions
Review: Sound quality is superb. Wonderfully simple to hook up and install. My Windows 2000 operating system didn't even require a driver diskette. Requires Musicmatch Jukebox to copy playable songs to the device, however. The player does not play MP3 files but rather depends on Musicmatch Jukebox to convert MP3 files to a .MPY format. This format is not playable on other devices so any attempt to copy songs from the RD1070 back to your hard drive will not work. You can, however, use the player as a portable hard drive for other types of files. Unbeatable for the price. The annoyance of the MPY file format should not deter the vast majority of users. Get it, work out with it. A great player at a great price.

Summary: Nice player, lame software
Review: The RCA Lyra RD1070 is the first MP3 player I've owned, and I'm very pleased with it. For a 128 MB player, the price is hard to beat. Of course, you give up some frills like a track name display, but it's still a very competitive piece of hardware. It's lightweight, relatively compact, and sounds good. There are five DSP presets available (flat, bass, pop, rock, and jazz), repeat, shuffle, and program play modes, and a very generous volume range. There is also an expansion slot for SD/MMC memory cards, if you want more play time. My only complaint with the unit is the Musicmatch software that comes with it. It stinks. Although you can copy WMA files directly to the player through Windows Media Player or Windows Explorer, MP3 files must be converted to a proprietary "MPY" format before the Lyra will play them. This means you're required to use the lame bundled software to upload MP3s. I've e-mailed RCA begging them to release a WMP plug-in or a converter program, but I'm not holding my breath for a response. Despite the somewhat lame software, I am very impressed with the player and would definitely recommend it.

Summary: TOTALLY KICKS BUTT
Review: The software is SOOOO EASY TO WORK. This MP3 player rocks! Ive never seen a better megabyte mp3 player out there! This is truly the best in sound, size, EVERYTHING! I am not a big fan of Musicmatch but when I got this thing...heh the software is so simple. I opened the package, installed the drivers, and in about 1-2 mins I was up and running with my new RCA Lyra mp3 player.
I own the 64MB version of the player which is orange and dang, It is the bomb. The sound quality is amazing. The mp3 player has presets on it, like Flat, Bass, Pop, Rock, and Jazz.
I personally love rock to heavy death metal music, and the Lyra plays it amazingly. The volume level on it is so loud and when u have the Bass or Rock boost on it, it is clear and undistorted.
The Lyra takes AAA batteries, but thats no big deal, that just shows how nice and small it is. Ive used it for maybe an hour or two and the battery meter shows half way so i dont know. Im going to get rechargables.
My final words. I absolutely love this thing. All I have to say to all you people who dont have an MP3 player...THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU, It is so easy to operate. Youll love it. JUST GO BUY IT!

Review: This is really a great MP3 player. It has great internal memory along with and SD expansion slot to give you even more. The sound quality is great and is very easy to fill up with songs. It is also very lightweight. The only thing that it is missing is the FM radio!
