Summary: Not a single flaw in this player!
Review: This has to be the best compact mp3/wma/wav/FM tuner and voice recorder ever made. The software that comes with the unit was very easy to install. XP users will see the "Not Microsoft Certified" driver window but once you get beyond that the ease of use is amazing. In under 5 minutes I had this puppy loaded up with songs (2 hours is about right at 128) and was running on the treadmill.

The unit is so light you can't feel it bounce around your neck if you tuck in under your shirt. The audio quality was fantastic with the provided earbuds.

It is a must have for any one looking for a compact, sleek mp3 player. However, don't skimp like I did on the memory size! Get the largest model you can afford. I've had this less than 4 hours at the time of writing this and I already want a much bigger one!

Summary: Great Choice
Review: This is one of the best 128mb MP3 players. It is capable of playing not only mp3s but also windows media audio which takes up half the space of an mp3 some you can cram twice as much music onto the player, I managed to fit 55 songs on mine. It also has a FM tuner which the player is capable of recording live. Unlike most players which have a battery life of 10-15 hours the battery on this player lasts up to 24 hours. The headphones that are included have the right side twelve inchs longer than the left so the right earplug is looped around the back of your neck, this apparently is to help reduce how much the cord bounces around.

This is a great mp3 player, I definately recommend getting it.

Summary: Blows away the competition
Review: After debating about buying a portable MP3 for months I headed out to my local electronics store and was overwhelmed with the selection. I first went with a Creative Nomad Muvo NX but was so incredibly disappointed with the sound quality that I was actually happy that it [quit] out on the SECOND day.

Before venturing back to the store I logged on to Amazon and read a bazillion reviews and determined that the iRiver was the best choice based on consumer feedback here and elsewhere.

Trust me on this one, you will NOT be disappointed in anyway with this product. The sound is better than any portable anything I've heard and the design is beautiful and durable. The reviews about the battery hatch don't apply to my model since they have upgraded the entire casing with the new 300 series. The features are unbelievable and include MP3 encoding from another source or the fantastic built in FM radio.

My ONLY complaint, and believe me it is not a big deal, is that the arm band has to be ordered from their website. But, the lanyard they provide is top notch.

Awesome quality here and the firmware upgrades rock as well. Stop searching for the perfect MP3 player because this is it.

Summary: Great For Commuting
Review: With 128mb of onboard memory I have found my iRiver player the perfect companion for commuting in the bus each day to work. It's small size makes it ideal for slipping discreetly into my jacket pocket or hanging around my neck with the supplied cord. The unit also came with a protective plastic cover and arm band, which is great for jogging or exercise. The iRiver makes my Sony CD Walkman look Jurassic and cumbersome.

The sound quality is superb with the supplied earphones. The software is a drag and drop affair making file transfer a breeze. I have 44 tracks loaded at 96kps. I first experimented with 128kps and could not distinguish any serious decline in clarity when slipping down to 96kps. I even had some orchestral pieces down to 80kps, and could honestly not complain about the quality. Sticking with 96kps is the way to go.

Battery life is good and being a single penlight AA, you can buy them in a handy pack of four. Just be careful when inserting the battery, as the cover hinge feels a bit light. In fact the whole unit feels a bit too light for the price you pay, so I was quite relieved that the battery gave it some weight. The instruction manual is well structured, and thankfully so. You really do have to read it, to work your way around this unit. The trade off for portability is that the three buttons and toggle switch are very multi-functional. Likewise the backlit LCD display is rather tiny, however it does present plenty of information.

To convert your CD music to the MP3 format you will need additional software to that supplied with the unit. I used Music Match which came with my computer. Even as a relative newbie to MP3 conversion, I had my iRiver playing tracks in the same evening I purchased it. It also performs as a respectable FM radio and voice recorder.

Summary: Music for Mountain Biking under heavy tree cover and in Mts
Review: I wanted something real light to take mountain biking with me. i have been using a sony FM radio, but with the heavy tree cover and getting out of range from radio stations it was getting poor quality. i really wasn't gun ho on getting an MP3 player and i was discouraged by the illegality of mp3s and downloading them where i could get viruses etc. i tried some of the pay sites and they were a pain. so i figured i'd try this mp3 with recording off the radio, but i was skeptic. well, it works 100% perfect; great quality, the software works great, the sound is great. i was real surprised, i don't expect electronics to always live up to their assertions. this exceed mine, good music management; i can record my own songs off the radio and then play while i'm riding and no skip and no clarity issues. plus i'm creating my own collection of mp3s and i don't have to deal with the cost of buying them etc.. i don't know about the legality of this, but it seems to be just like recording songs off the radio on to a tape or recording an episode of seinfeld on a vhs tape and watching later... so i don't see how it could be any different from that. ciao~

Summary: boom boom boom
Review: Nice gadget. After one use I am satisfied with how it plays and the quality of music that comes out of it. What I'm not satisfied with is the microscopic led. I've got pretty good vision, 20-10, but even this one is hard to decypher without a manual in your hands. Don't plan on setting anything up on the road unless you remember all the switch positions or bring a magnifying glass. I cannot complain about the music quality because it really does rock. The bundled earphones...don't go well with a helmet because the straps will lift the phones out of your ears. Once you get the hang of what the buttons do, you can go blind and be able to get what you need for volume and song selection. The small size is pretty handy and it fits nicely in your hand. Someone was smoking some good stuff when they claimed 20 hours of playing time. With a new, fully charged NiMh 1800Ma battery and a full charge of music, expect six hours of play. It's a basic player if you just want the basics.

Summary: the 300 series rocks and the software isn't bad either
Review: First of all let me just say this review is for the 300 series 128mb iriver player which when i checked there is no difference in price (and other features) for the 300 and 100 series except how it looks(the 300 looks a lot better). The software that came with this player is extremely easy to use all i had to do was install it on my computer(I'm running windows xp). Then install the cable that comes with the player to the usb port and plug it in the player and bam the software comes to life. All i had to do was drag and drop my music files to the player and within minutes i was listening to my player. Take in my mind this whole process took me about 5 minutes. I usually fit about 27 to 30 songs per download onto the player so its not bad. All in all not too bad of a purchase i'm glad i bought it

Summary: Good player; awful software
Review: Now I read that this was to avoid bootlegging (though I don't get this logic, if it was on your computer in the first place....). However, the iriver software cannot make MP3s from your CDs! So how is one to get MP3s for this unit? Bootleg stuff! I use another software package to rip MP3s from my CDs and than use the iriver software to put it to the player. I can't say enough bad stuff about the software. However, the unit itself is great. If you have a plan as far as software is concerned, go for it.

Summary: Little kick ass player
Review: This was my first venture into the world of mp3 players. I bought the unit for running purposes. The unit went on it's first test drive today and passed with an A. It's so small you forget you're wearing it. I suggest to buy the arm strap carrying case from the website, because the included neck strap is garbage. The coolest thing for me about this player is the ability to record off of fm radio, and then upload it to your computer. You can upload voice recordings too. This is the unit to get, superb sound and interface. I love technology.
